254: The pampering from my uncle

Although Vietnam's Seventh Military Region couldn't continue to track the Western mercenaries, the ballistics and bullet fragments from the car indicated that these mercenaries likely used assault rifles with good accuracy even at medium range.

The caliber was 5.5 NATO standard ammunition, the same as for M4s, AUGs, and similar firearms.

It's worth noting that in the hearts of the Vietnamese, despite having fought wars with France and America, they still tried to align with the United States.

Yet, deep down, there was a subtle vigilance towards the West, led by America, a mix of pride from having defeated the Americans and a fear of another American invasion.

However, in the end, the Vietnamese ended up hating the Dragon Country People for decades.

Now, three fully armed Western mercenaries had vanished on Vietnamese soil; what was their true objective?

Why did they spare Vu Linh Huong's car and choose to attack the car carrying the Cambodian gunmen behind her?

After Nguyen Thi Xuan Tao and Vu Linh Huong both stated they had no connection to these mercenaries, the Seventh Military Region nearly turned Tay Ninh Province upside down.

Eventually, under the investigation of the Seventh Military Region's top trackers, the last traces of the three mercenaries were found in a certain forest.

However, from that point on, no further traces could be found anywhere, as if these mercenaries had simply vanished into thin air.

With no further clues, Vietnam's Seventh Military Region could only reach one conclusion:

These mercenaries came specifically for the Cambodian gunmen in the car.

Perhaps these gunmen had provoked the wrong people elsewhere, eventually leading these mysterious mercenaries to set an ambush and silence them.

The incident concluded with the arrest of several Binh Xuyen high-ranking officials and a group of skilled members.

The Seventh Military Region seized a large quantity of smuggled fruit phones, gold, and ivory that the Binh Xuyen had brought in from abroad.

This was quite a lucrative haul.

Through this incident, Cao Dai also initially unified its internal views and reached a cooperation agreement with Vu Van Nghia, who was subsequently sent by the Wu Family… “The Mekong River Plain is indeed much flatter than the Red River Plain.”

Inside the cable car on Black Virgin Mountain, Vu Van Nghia turned his head, looking at the vast fertile land below and sighed.

“The Mekong River Plain is indeed a uniquely blessed place, perfectly suited for growing grain.”

Li Qinghe, who was beside him, nodded in agreement.

The plains in Southern Vietnam are indeed much larger than those in Northern Vietnam; the mountainous areas here only become visible near the Cambodia border.

Black Virgin Mountain is considered a rare high peak in Southern Vietnam, which is why it's called the 'Spine of South Vietnam'.

After Vu Van Nghia and Cao Dai reached an agreement, and with the Seventh Military Region confirming that Tay Ninh Province was safe, he, along with Li Qinghe, took Vu Linh Huong to visit Black Virgin Mountain.

“Brother, the mountains here are still too low; they don’t even feel as tall as some of the mountains in Shidu near the Dragon Country People capital.”

Vu Linh Huong calmly looked at the scenery below the mountain.

“Oh, you’re right, they really aren’t that high. Dawajian is 1210 meters, and Niujiaoshan is 1176 meters.”

Vu Van Nghia chuckled, responding in Dragon Country People.

The three people in the cable car could freely switch between Vietnamese and Dragon Country People. Vu Van Nghia and Vu Linh Huong's Dragon Country People had reached native speaker level, without any of the typical Southeast Asian accent.

Only Nguyen Thi Xuan Tao, sitting next to Vu Linh Huong, could only speak a few simple Dragon Country People phrases, so she sat quietly, looking at the scenery below, completely making herself inconspicuous.

“This mountain must have played a significant role during the war; it stands like a fortress on a plain.”

Li Qinghe surveyed the surrounding terrain and casually voiced his thoughts.

“A-He, you’re right, this was part of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, ending just a few kilometers away in Cambodia. The Americans fought several major battles with our army here…”

Vu Van Nghia recounted this history with great animation.

Li Qinghe noticed that Vu Van Nghia, his brother-in-law, was deeply influenced by the Beijing dialect of Dragon Country People.

There was nothing unusual when he spoke Vietnamese, but as soon as he switched to Dragon Country People, that Beijing 'master' accent involuntarily emerged.

It was clear that this brother had interacted a lot with the children of prominent families in Beijing when he was studying there, hence the deep linguistic influence.

“That’s why Cambodians still often cross over illegally in this vicinity. But speaking of which, A-He, I still have to thank you this time. If those Cambodians had opened fire, A Xiang would have been in danger. I only have this one sister, and I don’t want anything to happen to her.”

Li Qinghe was about to reply when a sudden sense of alertness arose in his mind. Good heavens, his brother-in-law was waiting for this.

He was subtly probing during a casual conversation when his guard was down.

It seemed he had some suspicions about the appearance of Task Force 141. It just goes to show that none of these children from prominent families are simple.

“Brother Wenyi, you’re joking. At most, I was just in the car with A Xiang. According to Chuntao’s idea, I was supposed to step up and act as a human shield for A Xiang if needed, but that didn’t happen, so why thank me?”

Li Qinghe said with a playful smile.

Vu Van Nghia looked at him meaningfully: “It’s best that you are all safe. I hope you won’t encounter such dangers again in the future.”

“Of course, if you know such friends, please thank them for me. My sister is very important to me.”

Vu Van Nghia still didn't give up, as if he was convinced that these people were connected to Li Qinghe.

“I wish I had friends like that! If I could meet them, I would certainly add Brother Wenyi’s thanks to my own.”

Li Qinghe knew why Vu Van Nghia repeatedly emphasized how important Vu Linh Huong was to him.

It was because Vu Linh Huong was eight years younger than him. Their mother passed away when Vu Linh Huong was very young, and their father was constantly busy with work, so a nanny always took care of the two of them.

Later, their father married a girl from another family, and they got a stepmother.

As a result, Vu Linh Huong practically grew up following her brother around.

He raised his sister, and he doted on her. Vu Van Nghia had sworn to their mother that he would take good care of his sister.

So, first, he fought for Vu Linh Huong’s right to choose her own marriage within the family, allowing her to find a partner according to her own wishes, without having to consider political marriages.

When Vu Linh Huong first found Li Qinghe, he was still just observing, allowing Vu Linh Huong and Li Qinghe to continue their interactions.

He had also warned Vu Linh Huong not to give herself away easily. However, Vu Linh Huong’s recent brush with danger became a turning point in the relationship between the Wu Family and Cao Dai.

He came to communicate with Cao Dai and consolidate his relationship with the Seventh Military Region, only to discover that Vu Linh Huong had already been 'eaten' by Li Qinghe.

Seeing his sister’s happy expression beside Li Qinghe, Vu Van Nghia could only hold his nose and accept the relationship.

As long as Vu Linh Huong liked him, he would accept it.

“A Xiang, Qinghe, that cosmetic you formulated, prepare some for me later. I’ll take it back for your sister-in-law and have her recommend it to the ladies in Hanoi.”

Vu Van Nghia proactively brought up the beauty cream Li Qinghe had formulated, indicating that he intended to actively help them promote the product.

“Brother, you’re so good! We’ve already formulated a large batch of products in Saigon. Take a batch back with you when you return to Hanoi.”

Vu Linh Huong happily hugged Vu Van Nghia’s arm, acting spoiled. With Vu Van Nghia’s help, Qingling Cosmetics Group’s products would definitely develop several times faster than before.

“If I don’t help you, who will?” Vu Van Nghia dotingly ruffled Vu Linh Huong’s head.

“Oh, brother, you messed up my hair!” Vu Linh Huong pouted playfully.

As they spoke, the cable car had already reached the mountaintop.
