375: Learning to cook for love
The Mercedes G63 slowly made its way home through the endless stream of motorcycles.
Li Qinghe parked the car in the small courtyard, where Nguyen Thi Linh and Nguyen Thi Trinh's small motorbikes were parked in a makeshift shed in a corner.
In Vietnam, it rains every now and then.
Motorcycles feel more comfortable in the shed, not getting drenched by heavy rain.
This shed was later installed by Chau Pham Thuy Anh, who hired workers.
It could fit exactly three motorcycles.
Li Qinghe and Chau Pham Thuy Anh both got out of the car and walked towards the living room.
As soon as he reached the door, Li Qinghe smelled a spicy aroma, not the spicy fried eel scent made by Nguyen Thi Linh, but rather the aroma of stir-fried pork with green peppers, common in Dragon Country.
Curious, Li Qinghe strode inside, passed the living room, and saw Nguyen Thi Linh and Nguyen Thi Trinh busy cooking in the adjacent kitchen.
Nguyen Thi Trinh was currently at the stove, and in the wok was the familiar stir-fried pork with green peppers.
Li Qinghe walked happily to the kitchen doorway: "I knew I smelled something delicious as soon as I entered. So you're making stir-fried pork with green peppers! When did you learn?"
"Brother, you go sit in the living room first. We'll bring the food out when it's ready."
Nguyen Thi Linh, with a beaming smile, pushed Li Qinghe towards the living room.
Chau Pham Thuy Anh also hurried upstairs: "Brother, I'm going to change first. I'll cook a dish for you to try later."
Li Qinghe was pushed by Nguyen Thi Linh to sit in the living room, and she even brewed him a cup of black tea, placing it in front of him.
He was served very thoughtfully.
Li Qinghe was already accustomed to such treatment, but he found it very interesting that Nguyen Thi Linh and the others had started making Dragon Country dishes.
"A Ling, when did you all start learning to cook Dragon Country dishes?"
Li Qinghe blew on his tea and took a small sip.
"Brother, don't ask so many questions for now. Wait until it's cooked, and you can tell us if it tastes good."
Nguyen Thi Linh smiled, still wanting to keep it a secret, and turned to walk back to the kitchen.
But Li Qinghe put his teacup on the coffee table and pulled her into his arms.
"Still trying to be mysterious? If you don't tell me, I'll spank your little bottom until it blooms."
Li Qinghe threatened Nguyen Thi Linh fiercely.
However, after spending so much time together, his feigned fierceness didn't scare Nguyen Thi Linh at all.
Nguyen Thi Linh just giggled cooperatively and pleaded, "Brother, I'm so scared! Please don't ask me now. How about I tell you after dinner?"
Nguyen Thi Linh had also become mischievous. Verbal threats were no longer effective; he probably needed to give her a good spanking to make her behave. Li Qinghe just grabbed her, playfully kneaded her for a bit, and then let her go.
Nguyen Thi Linh tidied her clothes, smiled, and ran back to the kitchen. She still had to cook with Nguyen Thi Trinh.
Not long after, Chau Pham Thuy Anh came downstairs in a set of loungewear, and without a word to Li Qinghe, she also plunged into the kitchen.
Watching the three women acting so mysteriously, it seemed like they were planning some kind of surprise for him.
It's just learning to cook Dragon Country dishes, he already saw it, so what kind of surprise could it be?
Unable to get an answer, Li Qinghe simply picked up his tea and slowly drank it.
Although he didn't feel any surprise, seeing Nguyen Thi Trinh stir-frying pork with peppers already made him a little happy.
In the past, to adapt to life in Vietnam, Li Qinghe hadn't been too particular about food.
He had always eaten Vietnamese specialty foods with Nguyen Thi Linh and the others.
Nguyen Thi Linh and the others also racked their brains to cook delicious meals for Li Qinghe.
However, Vietnamese cuisine, when you turn it over and over, only has a few varieties: spring rolls with various fillings, various fried and boiled dishes, and various Rice Noodles.
But after going out and coming back, Nguyen Thi Linh and the others actually started learning to cook Dragon Country dishes.
Looking at how Nguyen Thi Trinh was cooking earlier, she seemed quite skilled, as if she had been practicing for quite some time.
Fortunately, when this house was first designed, the system had already installed a range hood.
The cooking fumes from Nguyen Thi Trinh's stir-fry weren't too pungent, but they already brought a strong sense of home cooking.
Most Vietnamese people cook by boiling dishes, but now they can stir-fry.
As Li Qinghe was thinking, flames suddenly flared up from the kitchen again, looking like a large fire from tossing the wok.
This was quite impressive. Li Qinghe had eaten Dragon Country dishes for over twenty years and still couldn't master the trick of tossing the wok.
It is said that only master chefs can handle the wok with such skill.
Li Qinghe glanced at the kitchen; from the back, it looked like Nguyen Thi Linh was tossing the wok and stir-frying.
Da Mi Fan perfectly exemplified that famous saying: she looks thin on the outside, but she actually has muscles.
Under her operation, the wok and the stove emitted clanging sounds of impact.
Coupled with the whooshing sound of the fire in the wok and the sizzling sound of the stir-fry, they harmoniously combined into a feeling called home.
As an entire bottle of Hanoi beer was poured into the wok, a familiar aroma filled the entire first floor.
Li Qinghe suddenly felt that the tea in his mouth had become bland.
Nguyen Thi Linh and the others actually made him feel like he was at home.
The saliva constantly secreted in his mouth indicated his urgent need to eat now.
After a while, the figure in front of the stove changed to Chau Pham Thuy Anh, who was seen continuously stirring the contents of the wok with chopsticks and a spatula.
Li Qinghe figured she must be frying spring rolls; A Ying always liked to dress exquisitely, and her cooking was no different.
Watching the three girls take turns showing off their skills at the stove, Li Qinghe felt that this meal would be the most sumptuous home-cooked meal he had since coming to Vietnam.
Sure enough, after waiting another ten minutes, Nguyen Thi Linh first brought the rice cooker to the dining room, followed by Nguyen Thi Trinh who set four sets of bowls and chopsticks on the dining table, while Chau Pham Thuy Anh brought in a pot of soup.
"Brother, dinner's ready."
Three different voices called out the same sweet sound.
Li Qinghe licked his lips, stood up, and walked over.
"Brother, have some soup first to whet your appetite. Later, try the new dishes we learned, but you need to wash your hands first, okay?"
Chau Pham Thuy Anh first served him a bowl of soup, then filled the other bowls halfway.
Li Qinghe washed his hands and sat down, discovering that the soup was pork belly chicken; the golden chicken skin and snowy white pork belly coexisted harmoniously in the clear broth.
Subsequently, Nguyen Thi Linh and the others took turns bringing out plates of dishes from the kitchen.
Li Qinghe was amused at the sight; these dishes were all familiar.
Besides the stir-fried pork with green peppers that Nguyen Thi Trinh had just cooked, the other dishes were beer duck, stir-fried pork with dried bamboo shoots, stuffed tofu, stir-fried beef, steamed pork with Rice Noodles, and blood duck.
The dishes filled the dining table to the brim.
Nguyen Thi Linh sat beside Li Qinghe, while Nguyen Thi Trinh and Chau Pham Thuy Anh sat opposite.
Everyone smiled, looking at Li Qinghe.
"Brother, quickly try it and see if the dishes we made are delicious."
After Li Qinghe finished the pork belly soup, Da Mi Fan, ever so thoughtful, stayed by Li Qinghe's side today, serving him food.
Li Qinghe found that he only needed to focus on eating.
First, a mouthful of stir-fried pork with peppers to open his appetite. Li Qinghe's eyes lit up; Nguyen Thi Trinh actually had a great talent for stir-frying.
