105: Doctor Ula

“Ah? What do you mean I can’t be a doctor?” Ning asked in surprise.

“Elder Neil is one of the three judges responsible for testing doctors’ knowledge. They will also affect your chances of becoming a volunteer, but not as much,” Samode said.

“Really?” Ning began to worry, but quickly pushed the worry aside. His anger now outweighed his concern. “No matter what, I’ll have to show off my medical skills when I take the volunteer exam tomorrow,” Ning said.

Samode said in a monotone voice, “The volunteer exam is only held once a month, and the last one was about a week ago.”

“Oh, is that so? Well, then, I’ll show them my medical skills when I take the volunteer exam three weeks from now,” Ning said.

Samode just shook his head and returned to the Elder’s room, with Ning following behind.

However, as soon as he entered, Ning felt a little intimidated by the atmosphere. Elder Neil allowed his Qi to run rampant, and Ning’s body reacted to it.

“Damn, just how strong is this?” he thought. He didn't dare to check the cultivation realm, lest the realm be too high and cause him spiritual harm. However, based on feeling alone, Ning could tell that this Old man was in the Foundation Establishment stage.

“Damn, this is terrifying,” he thought, but there was no fear on his face.

“Heh heh heh, you think you’re some kind of invincible existence, don’t you? Well, let’s see how long you can stay in the Physicians Guild. I’ll certainly make your life a mess,” the Old man said.

Ning did not flinch at the threat, “Go ahead, I’ll wait for this so-called hell,” he said.

Throughout the day, several different patients came in and out of the hospital.

Elder Neil received many patients for treatment. However, he no longer scammed them out of their money, as Ning would check the ingredients very carefully.

He had tried to do so once, but Ning immediately corrected him, which made him blush a little.

In the end, Elder Neil swore that Ning would rather be in actual hell than face his impending fate.

Ning returned to his monastery hut for the night. It felt good to finally rest after a hard day. He began to cultivate, and soon, night turned into morning.

Once he left cultivation, he checked the Beast Space to see what had happened.

He couldn't see any changes in Night, but the Beetle had begun to lay a layer of cocoon around it. The cocoon wasn't fully formed yet and would still take some time to build, but it still surprised Ning.

“Is this how things evolve?” he thought. He quickly forgot about those things and looked forward to another day at the Guild.

“That Old man said he was going to make my life a mess, didn’t he? I’m curious to see how he’ll do it,” he thought. He walked out of his room and into the hospital lobby.

In the registration hall, he asked who he would be attending today, was given a room, and walked into it.

Inside was a younger man who seemed a bit too fidgety, Ning thought, wondering what was going on.

“Hello, Doctor Ulla, I’m your attendant for today, Ning,” he introduced himself.

“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t see you. Please come in,” the doctor said. According to the person at the registration desk who assigned him doctors for the day, this man was actually a novice doctor who had just passed his exam three days ago and was starting his first day of work today.

“Will this be a problem?” he thought.

Soon, something in his storage bag vibrated. It was the amulet notifying him that a patient had arrived. Only after Ning arrived did he learn that the squiggly lines on the amulet were not any language, but simply provided information directly to the cultivator’s brain.

“There’s a patient here, I’ll go get them,” Ning said and left the room.

He walked to the front of the registration hall and saw a little girl with a face full of strange rashes and small patches covered in blood and pus.

“She’s your patient today,” the person at the registration desk said. He seemed to have a bit of a cold today.

“Please come over.” Ning said, leading the little girl and her guardian through the hall to Doctor Ulla. He opened the door and let them in.

Ulla turned around and almost threw up when he saw the little girl’s disgusting face.

“Oh my… has he never seen blood and stuff? How can he be a doctor?” Ning wondered.

“Doctor, please examine my sister. Two days ago, she suddenly developed this rash. We waited all day yesterday to see if it would disappear, but it only got worse,” the guardian said.

“I—I understand,” Ulla said, beginning to examine the little girl. He showed signs of being a novice, and the guardian began to worry.

Ning was also curious about her condition, so he moved closer to examine her as well. He looked for a while and quickly realized what the problem was.

He watched Ulla struggle to find the cause without success, so he decided to help a little.

“Has your sister recently come into contact with anything unusual?” he asked.

“Hmm… No, nothing special,” the brother said.

“Nothing at all? Not even some potentially poisonous insects or plants?” he asked.

“I don’t… Eli, have you recently come into contact with any plants or insects you haven’t seen before?” he asked his sister.

“I…” The little girl began to think, “Three days ago, when I went to the outskirts of the forest to gather firewood, I saw a beautiful flower I had never seen before,” she said.
