122: Snaking worm
Mi Kai La kept wondering where she had heard the name Ning before. "I'm sure I've heard my master mention his name before, but where?" She couldn't remember.
"Ah, you're the volunteer who does the strange dance." She said when she finally remembered who he was.
"Strange dance?" Ning was a little confused about what she meant.
Mi Kai La said, "Yes, I heard you do a strange dance every time you heal a woman who looks pregnant.
"Ah, that's... not a dance. That's a technique, but yes, that's me," Ning said. "I'm surprised my granddaughter and grandfather don't remember me after I shaved my head. I must have been overlooked on their vast radar," he thought.
Along the way, he could hear panicked voices coming from every room in the hall.
Soon, she led him to a room where her master resided.
"Master, Volunteer Ning is here. He says he has some information about the Black Sickness," Mi Kai La said.
"Oh, Volunteer Ning, please come in. I definitely need your help this time." The Elder said as soon as he saw Volunteer Ning.
Ning walked into the room and saw a group of people standing before him, all with the same black spots. "I see. They must have come directly here instead of going to the volunteer hall. So, they don't know anything."
"You have news, Volunteer Ning." The Elder asked.
"Yes, uh... First," he turned and said to everyone, "you can go home. There's nothing to worry about. These are simple black spots that pose no harm to people. They will also slowly disappear within a month. You can rest assured."
Ning said, "Also, please pass on the same information to anyone who is panicking. They have nothing to worry about."
The people didn't know what to do. They knew he was a volunteer, but a doctor's word would be much better. The First Elder saw this atmosphere and immediately said, "Volunteer Ning is an excellent doctor. You can take his words as truth."
Everyone finally breathed a sigh of relief and left the room. The Elder turned around and asked, "Is that true, or did you lie to make them feel safe for a while?"
"That's the truth, there's nothing to worry about," Ning said.
"Can you explain why?" The Elder asked.
To travel. Well, I think if I explain it right away, it will be better than "That's right. Mi Kai La, go tell the other doctors, tell them what Volunteer Ning just said." The Elder said.
Mi Kai La was a little surprised that her master so quickly accepted the words of a volunteer who hadn't even told them anything. "Are you sure, Master? Volunteer Ning might know what's happening, but what if we shouldn't--"
"It doesn't matter now. Even if Volunteer Ning's analysis is completely wrong, we still need to control the panicking crowd. Go now and convey the message, tell every volunteer and doctor to gather in the lecture hall," the First Elder said.
"Yes, Master." Mi Kai La quickly replied and conveyed the message. When the people finally breathed a sigh of relief and left, the commotion in the doctor's hall finally subsided.
Ning and the Elder came to the study hall. "I sincerely hope you know what you're doing, Volunteer Ning. Many lives are at stake," the Elder said.
"Don't worry, Elder, I wouldn't risk lives making such a mistake." He said, showing the Elder his hand full of black spots.
"So that's how it is," the First Elder seemed relieved.
Soon, people began to gather at the podium in the lecture hall, and Ning stood on the podium.
He looked at the hundreds of people standing before him and remembered when he taught the Villagers in Clavis to read and write.
"I hope I can see them again. Hopefully, most of them are still alive." He thought. However, he quickly pushed that thought away, as now was not the time.
The top physicians were all waiting on stage for Ning's explanation, while the others sat on chairs in the audience.
"Volunteer Ning, now that everyone is here, perhaps you should start explaining to us what happened. As far as I know, not a single doctor or volunteer here knows what happened," the First Elder said.
"Yes," Ning said, beginning to explain.
Ning said, "These black spots are not contagious diseases, illnesses, or simple ailments, but rather bugs." "What? Bugs?" "Did he say bugs?"
"How did bugs get into my skin?" "I've never heard of such bugs." People immediately began talking to each other.
"Yes, they are bugs. They are called Yang Rotting Bugs. They are very small. Small enough to enter your body through a single pore of the skin."
"They enter your body and start eating the Yang energy within you. Once they are full, they will reproduce, giving birth to more Yang Rotting Bugs, and those that are full will die."
Ning said, "Those dead bugs are the black spots you see on your skin. In fact, if you cut my hand now, you would see the black spots extending all the way to my bones and organs."
The Volunteers, and even the senior doctors, were surprised by this explanation. None of them had ever heard of "Yang Rotting Bugs." They didn't know if Ning was telling the truth or making up a story.
Qezir stood up and asked, "Volunteer Ning, are you saying that all this panic is caused by bugs?" "Yes," Ning said.
"Well, I don't think there's a single book in the library that talks about these bugs. Can you tell me where you learned about this?" Qezir asked.
