86: championship

That day was the day of the competition.

Ning walked towards the Mist Origin Sect’s arena, where everyone had gathered to battle with their beasts.

For the past four days, Ning had been training Night with both techniques. By now, he had become quite proficient with the Multi-Grab technique but was slightly behind on learning how to properly use the Strong Wind technique. Despite this, Ning was already good enough that he didn't think he needed to learn any more.

Moreover, with Ning's continuous efforts, he had doubled Night's cultivation realm, and she was now in the third realm of Qi Condensation.

This sect competition was only for outer disciples, so Ning didn't see many inner disciples. As for core disciples, he hadn't even seen one since he joined the sect, except for Senior Sister Sophia.

“Do I leave the sect after I reach the next 2x limit?” he wondered. Part of the reason he initially joined the sect was his curiosity about what sects were like, and he needed to find a place where he could cultivate in peace.

Since he didn't want to go bald and didn't like the atmosphere of the opposing sect at all, he came here, and he quite liked it for now, with no complaints.

“However, this should be a school, right? What kind of school makes students learn by themselves? Disciples need a knowledgeable teacher to guide them,” he thought.

He registered his name and was asked to register his two beasts. When he told them he only had one, they looked at him strangely. “Ah, should I get another one too?” he thought.

A few minutes later, the competition began, and there were apparently around 350 outer disciples, so they started multiple battles simultaneously.

“Ah, the elders are staying to be judges, huh?” he thought. He was glad Ning wouldn't be seriously hurt now. He knew Ning wasn't the strongest among this group, and considering he had to fight during the day, his skills wouldn't be fully showcased.

Despite this, he still hoped to make it into the top half so he wouldn't have to pay any fees.

The arena was filled with beasts fighting, some fierce, some comical, some boring, and some unbearable to watch. Soon, it was Ning's turn.

He was sent into the arena with another disciple he had never seen before, but he wouldn't go easy on him! Their two beasts came out of their beast bags simultaneously.

Ning brought out Night, and the other person brought out a very ordinary-looking wolf. However, Ning knew this wolf was at the top of the Mist Origin Sect's beast data.

This meant it was far below Night's realm. Ning quickly checked the wolf's cultivation, and when he saw it was in the first realm of Qi Condensation, he almost laughed out loud; it was too weak.

“Start!” the old man screamed, and the two beasts immediately began to fight. At Ning's command, Night didn't even wait for anything, flying towards the wolf at a slow pace, striking the wolf with the non-sharp side of her claws.

Although her speed was slow, the wolf's dodging speed was very fast, and it was instead thrown out of the arena.

Ning considered this match anti-climactic. With Night on his shoulder, he walked down the arena. He watched another match for a few minutes, and it was time for another match.

He walked onto the arena again, ready to fight. This time, their opponent was a little girl with a second-stage Condensation realm bird. Everyone thought this battle would last for a short while, but unfortunately, it did.

Night slashed hard, and the bird was injured, flying back to its master. Another anti-climactic battle.

Ning waited for a while, and it was his turn again. He was starting to get bored. He had expected to have a great battle with his beast, but it turned out to be nothing more than a sleepy carnival.

Finally, when he walked onto the arena, he was very surprised to see his opponent. “A Demonic Caterpillar?” he thought. He at least knew the name of this beast and that it had a quite respectable ranking.

“I wonder why that is. I should read other books,” he thought. Soon, the battle began, and as usual, Night began to scratch the caterpillar. But suddenly, the caterpillar spat out a pile of webs, which made it difficult for Night to maneuver.

Ning was a little surprised, but he wasn't caught off guard.

“Use Dazzling Air Current,” he said, pointing at the caterpillar. He felt like a beast tamer now. There was a faint sharp air current in the air, but it had no effect on the webs.

However, on the fragile Demonic Caterpillar, it made countless small cuts all over its body, including its eyes. Suddenly, it couldn't see. The girl began to teach the caterpillar different techniques, but in the end, the caterpillar was blind, so it was once again easily lost to Night.

By this time, Ning was even ready to be stopped. He waited for his turn again, but this time it didn't come. They skipped his number, and he got a 2x multiplier.

He was now suddenly in the top 32. “What's going on?” he thought. It was now a 1v1 match, and all spectators could only watch one at a time. The competition started again, and people began to fight.

Soon, it was his turn to fight again.

When he walked onto the stage and saw his enemy on the other side of the stage, he was very surprised. “Ah, I see, we can finally get our revenge on you,” Ning said.

It was as if he and that guy had a destined connection; his opponent was Yazi..
