51: Potato
"Hmm... what kind of vegetables should I plant?" Ning began to ponder. He had only considered other aspects so far, and had only decided to plant fruit. However, only planting fruit wasn't ideal.
The human body needs six nutrients, and fruit only provides two of them: vitamins and minerals. He could get fruit from the forest. He could get fats and proteins from meat and fish, and water was now readily available.
So what he needed was carbohydrates. He thought about agricultural knowledge and decided to plant potatoes. Potatoes were the most suitable food for cooking, and for these people who had no pots, pans, or bowls, potatoes were the best.
"System, create one kilogram of potatoes that I can plant here," he said.
<1 kilogram of potatoes requires 2,000,000 energy. Are you sure?> "Uh, not much. Buy it," he commanded.
Before he knew it, dozens of small potatoes appeared before him, and he immediately used his psychokinesis to gently lower them to the ground.
"Now I just have to chop them up and bury them, right?" he thought. This was something he had learned while studying on Earth, so he was a little worried if it was correct.
"Uh, let's not rush. System, show me information on how to plant potatoes," he asked.
The system displayed 5 different levels of knowledge. To be absolutely sure, he decided to spend 3,000,000 energy to purchase the intermediate version.
"Oh, so it's the 'eyes'? I guess I'll have to let them sit for a few more days then," he mused. He learned that one could plant a whole potato to grow a new potato plant, but one could also wait a few days for small 'eyes' to grow around the potato, and then use those parts to plant the potatoes.
This way, he could cultivate multiple plants from a single potato.
"Cutting them open was the right idea. But, I don't know exactly where to cut."
He wanted to go to the beach a few times to fill in the new area Hyesi had cleared, but he lacked the energy and decided not to.
"I guess there's nothing for me to do here," he thought, looking around. He put the potatoes in storage and looked for Hyesi. He found Hyesi outside the valley, collecting some long branches and leaves.
"What are you doing?" he asked, looking at the unusual scene.
"Oh, Inikaka. I'm collecting these sticks to make more weapons for the Villagers, and these leaves to guard your home.
Currently, I'm just using the island's waste materials to do this.
"That's a good idea too," Ning said. "Alright, let's go then." He grabbed Hyesi and instantly teleported away. He didn't want to waste extra energy, so he moved directly to the edge of the island.
"You take these back, I'll bring back water," Ning said.
"Water? For what, Inikaka?" Hyesi asked.
"You'll see." Ning left the curious Hyesi in the dark and walked towards the sea. He was a little worried that the demon would jump out immediately, but thankfully, it didn't. He simply grabbed as much water as his body could hold and then ran back, catching up with Hyesi within a minute.
Hyesi, who was walking slowly, saw Ning approaching and asked, "Inikaka, where's the water?"
"It's with me, don't worry," Ning said, striding forward, and Hyesi also quickened his pace.
A few minutes later, they reached the center of the village. Ning told Hyesi to call everyone out. At this moment, Ning fell into deep thought.
"I can't keep doing this forever, can I? One day, I will have to leave the village to explore other parts of the world. If I only feed them now, they will only have food temporarily. But, if I teach them how to feed themselves, they will be able to feed themselves forever." "I think it's time for me to teach these people."
He looked at the gathered Villagers and asked, "Does anyone have anything important to do right now?"
Everyone shook their heads. "No? Then starting today, I will teach you three things every day."
"First, I will teach you how to read and write."
"Second, I will teach you how to obtain food and water for yourselves." "Finally, third, I will teach you how to cultivate Qi."
The Villagers were shocked and confused. They didn't know what reading and writing were, or what cultivating Qi was. But hearing that their God would teach them how to get food and water for themselves, they were somewhat surprised. Didn't their God know that they were already capable of doing that?
The Chief stepped forward and said, "Lord Inikaka, I understand you want to spread knowledge, but we are perfectly capable of finding fish to eat and coconuts to drink water ourselves. And there's no water in the hole you made us dig. I don't understand why we need to learn these things."
Ning just shook his head and said, "You think so too, then." He had the system create a small metal bucket, which cost over ten million energy and could hold about ten liters of water.
The Villagers were shocked by what he could create out of nothing, but they didn't think much of it, as it was just another miracle created by their God.
Ning placed the bucket on the ground in front of him, put his hands over it, and suddenly, water gushed out of his hands, dripping into the bucket, quickly filling it.
Ning called the Chief over, "Drink this."
The Chief obeyed the God's command, stepped forward, scooped water from the bucket, and drank it. Immediately, his eyes widened, and he began to cough loudly.
"Inikaka, this is seawater."
