236: Chapter 236 Of course, it's about sacrificing oneself.

Lin Fang set down her bowl and turned to look at her. "Xiaoyue, do you know what it means to go to the third floor?"

Lin Xiaoyue lowered her head. "I know."

"And you're still going?"

Lin Xiaoyue looked up, her gaze resolute. "Sister-in-law, I've thought it through. I want to go."

Lin Fang took a deep breath. "Xiaoyue, listen to me. There are already so many women on this vehicle. Why must you..."

"Sister-in-law," Lin Xiaoyue interrupted her, "do you think I have any other choice?"

Lin Fang was stunned.

Lin Xiaoyue leaned against the cabinet, her voice calm. "Sister-in-law, I know you think this is wrong."

"But it's the apocalypse now. There are all kinds of disasters outside; going out means death. Being able to live on this vehicle is already a blessing among misfortunes."

"But..."

"Sister-in-law, think about it. What kind of life did we lead in the Safe Zone before?"

"Every day we lived in fear, worrying about when the Safe Zone would fail and if there would be enough food to eat."

"And now? On the RV, we don't have to worry about safety or food and drink. We can even take showers, work out, watch movies, and buy beautiful clothes to wear."

Lin Xiaoyue looked at Lin Fang. "But all of this is provided by Qin Lin. He doesn't ask for anything in return, but since he gives us so much, we can't just eat and live here for free with a clear conscience, can we?"

Lin Fang fell silent.

"And..."

Lin Xiaoyue's voice dropped lower.

"Sister-in-law, stop playing dumb. Which of the women on this vehicle doesn't belong to him?"

"Su Yuran, Su Yuling, Lin Wanwan, Han Yurou, Xu Xue, Li Ying, Zhou Lingling, Zhou Yueyue, Wang Xiulan, Xia Qiuyan—even Han Qing..."

"Except for Li Ran, which of them isn't intimate with him?"

Lin Fang still didn't speak.

"Sister-in-law, I don't want to be the exception. I don't want to be the only person on this vehicle who is excluded."

Lin Fang finally spoke. "But Xiaoyue, do you really like him?"

Lin Xiaoyue thought for a moment. "I wouldn't say I like him, but I don't dislike him either."

"Qin Lin is handsome, has a good personality, and takes good care of us. Most importantly, he has an upgradable RV. We won't lose out by following him."

"Are you really that pragmatic?"

"Sister-in-law, I've always been pragmatic, okay? Otherwise, I wouldn't have been with Su Zhenyun."

"Besides, it's the apocalypse. How can you survive if you're not a bit pragmatic?"

Lin Xiaoyue gave a bitter smile. "Do you think it's still the old world? With jobs, houses, and a future? Everything is gone now. It's enough just to be alive."

"Qin Lin is good to us; he gives us food and a place to stay. We have to give something back, don't we?"

"Give what?"

"Giving oneself, of course," Lin Xiaoyue said as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

Lin Fang opened her mouth but didn't know what to say.

Lin Xiaoyue continued, "I heard Qin Lin has some kind of System mission that requires having children. I don't have any attachments anyway. Being able to bear him a child would count as having someone to rely on in this apocalypse."

"You... have you really decided?"

Lin Xiaoyue took her hand. "Sister-in-law, I know you mean well, but I've already made up my mind about this. Please don't try to persuade me otherwise."

Lin Fang sighed. "You... decide for yourself, then."

Lin Xiaoyue smiled. "Thank you, Sister-in-law."

...

At eight o'clock in the evening, Qin Lin sat in the living room on the third floor, waiting for Lin Xiaoyue.

This woman, Lin Xiaoyue, was indeed even more pragmatic than he had imagined.

However, this kind of pragmatism wasn't repulsive; instead, it was very honest.

She knew what she wanted and she knew what she could give. She didn't hide it or act affected.

Before the apocalypse, this kind of personality might have been called opportunistic, but in the apocalypse, it was a rare kind of clear-headedness.

Han Qing came out of the bathroom, drying her hair. Seeing him sitting on the sofa, she asked:

"What's wrong? You have a pensive look on your face."

Qin Lin explained the situation.

After Han Qing finished listening, she was silent for a moment and then smiled. "You're finally going to make a move?"

Qin Lin raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean 'finally'?"

Han Qing walked over and sat down beside him. "I was wondering how long you were going to drag this out. Lin Xiaoyue has been on the vehicle for almost a month, and you haven't done anything. I was starting to get anxious for her."

Qin Lin didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "What are you anxious for?"

Han Qing leaned against his shoulder. "I'm anxious that you won't finish your mission. Upgrading to Lv7 requires survival points and blessing points. Although you have enough now, what if you need more later? How can you manage without saving up more?"

Qin Lin put his arm around her waist. "Aunt Qing cares about me that much?"

Han Qing suddenly stood up, changed positions... and sat back down.

"Don't call me Aunt Qing."

"Then what should I call you?"

"...Call me *."

Qin Lin smiled and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

"Tonight I'll go sleep with Yu Rou and leave the place to you."

Qin Lin looked at her and asked with a smile, "Can you bear to?"

Han Qing gave him a look, stood up, and straightened her pajamas.

"Why wouldn't I be able to? It's not like I'm not coming back."

Han Qing said seriously, "Your mission requires having children. Among the women on this vehicle, except for Lin Fang whose rating isn't high enough, everyone else meets the requirements. Instead of making you woo them one by one, it's better if everyone understands the situation and gets what they need. This was also Su Yuran's plan."

"The way you say it, it's like I've become a tool."

Han Qing rolled her eyes at him. "Aren't you just a tool? A stud tool."

Qin Lin was stuck between laughter and tears.

Han Qing leaned in and whispered in his ear, "But I really like this tool of yours."

She finished speaking and walked toward the door. At the door, she turned back. "Someone's going to have a very 'happy' night again."

Han Qing opened the door and happened to see Lin Xiaoyue standing there, her hand raised to knock.

The two made eye contact, and Lin Xiaoyue's face turned red. "Han... Sister Han."

Han Qing smiled. "Go on in, he's waiting for you."

Lin Xiaoyue nodded, stepped aside to let Han Qing out, and then entered the living room.

Qin Lin stood up. "You're here? Have a seat."

Lin Xiaoyue sat on the sofa, her hands on her knees, her fingers trembling with nervousness.

Lin Xiaoyue sat on the sofa and looked around.

"This room of yours is really big."

Qin Lin poured her a glass of water.

"Come often if you like it."

Lin Xiaoyue took the glass and took a sip.

"Qin Lin, aren't you afraid I have ulterior motives?"

Qin Lin smiled. "What kind of motives?"

"Like coveting your RV or your resources."

"Covet them then." Qin Lin sat down across from her. "As long as you're willing to give, I don't care about your motives."

He really wasn't afraid; no one could take this RV away from him through greed.

Lin Xiaoyue was silent for a moment.

"You certainly are open-minded."

"It's the apocalypse. Even if you aren't open-minded, you have to be. As long as you don't harm people or betray me, I can accept everything else."

Lin Xiaoyue looked at him, her gaze somewhat complex.

"Aren't you afraid I'll have a change of heart later?"
