6: [Doomsday RV] successfully activated
Inside the auto repair shop workshop, the generator emitted a steady roar.
The red light of the electric heater cast flickering shadows on the walls.
Su Yuran had fallen asleep in the car, curled up on the back seat wrapped in a blanket, her breathing steady.
Qin Lin sat by the stove, staring at the translucent interface before him.
[Doomsday RV]
[Rank: Lv0 (Not Activated)]
[Activation Progress: 23/24 hours]
[Energy: 89/100]
[survival points: 23]
[Driver: Qin Lin]
[Passengers: 1]
[Other: Not Unlocked]
One hour left.
Qin Lin added the last piece of wood to the stove.
The flames danced, reflecting the irrepressible anticipation in his eyes.
In his past life, he had only seen what this vehicle looked like after it had evolved from a distance.
That was three months into the Apocalypse, when he caught a glimpse of it from afar on the outskirts of a shelter.
By then, the vehicle had reached an unknown level.
The entire body was covered in silver-gray armor.
It was like a slumbering steel behemoth.
As for how he knew, it was naturally because the license plate hadn't changed.
It was still Su A-100.
And now, this behemoth was about to belong to him.
Qin Lin glanced at the sleeping Su Yuran in the car.
The girl was lying on her side, her long hair scattered on the seat, her eyelashes casting fine shadows in the firelight.
If not for this disaster, she should be lying in a warm dormitory bed right now.
Sleeping in until ten tomorrow morning, then putting on exquisite makeup and going shopping with him.
Fate is truly an ironic thing.
Qin Lin withdrew his gaze and continued staring at the countdown.
Time ticked away, minute by minute.
The wind and snow outside the workshop seemed to have lessened slightly, but the temperature remained terrifyingly low.
Qin Lin wrapped his coat tighter and rubbed his frozen hands.
The heat from the electric heater was primarily directed at the vehicle; where he sat was not warm.
Finally—
[Activation Progress: 23:59/24 hours]
The final sixty seconds.
Qin Lin stood up and walked to the side of the car.
He reached out to touch the cold paint and could feel a faint pulsation.
Like a heartbeat, coming from deep within the chassis.
Thirty seconds.
Inside the car, Su Yuran turned over, murmured something, and fell back into a deep sleep.
Ten seconds.
Qin Lin held his breath.
Five, four, three, two—
[Activation conditions met]
[Doomsday RV System officially launched]
[Initializing...]
The car body suddenly vibrated.
It wasn't the kind of vibration from an engine starting, but a structural tremor from the inside out, as if every part was being reorganized.
The metal emitted a low hum, like the sigh of some ancient machinery awakening.
"Mm..."
Su Yuran was startled awake. Sitting up groggily, she quickly stepped out of the car.
"What's happening? Is it an earthquake?"
Before she could finish her sentence, her eyes widened.
Because the car was changing.
First was the shape.
The body, originally the size of an ordinary sedan, began to stretch and expand.
The roof rose, the body widened to both sides, and the rear extended backward.
Just like a Transformer in the movies.
But instead of turning into a robot, it was taking on the silhouette of a medium-sized RV.
In places where the paint had peeled, new metal "grew" from within to fill the gaps.
The color gradually shifted from mottled black to a matte dark gray, with a texture that felt heavy and solid.
The window glass thickened into double-layered laminated glass with metal trim around the edges.
A foldable solar panel rose from the roof; it wasn't large, but it reflected a deep blue luster in the firelight.
The front and rear bumpers were reshaped, becoming sturdier, with metal skid plates added underneath.
The entire transformation process lasted about three minutes.
When everything stopped, what stood before Qin Lin was an RV approximately six meters long and three meters high.
It wasn't as flashy as those luxury camping RVs.
The lines were rugged and simple, more in the style of a military vehicle.
Practical, sturdy, and designed for survival.
[Doomsday RV]
[Rank: Lv1 (Basic Survival Vehicle)]
[Energy: 89/100]
[survival points: 24]
[Driver: Qin Lin]
[Passengers: 1]
[Functional Modules Unlocked]
[Upgrade Requirement: 1 crystal stone of any attribute]
The interface had updated.
Several sub-menus appeared below:
[Spatial Layout]
[Survival Functions]
[Defense System]
[Energy Status]
[Upgrade Path]
Qin Lin took a deep breath and pulled open the driver's side door.
The cockpit had also changed.
The old steering wheel had been replaced with a more ergonomic multi-functional one.
The dashboard had become a full LCD screen, displaying real-time information such as internal and external temperatures, energy reserves, and survival points.
The seats were upgraded to adjustable racing-style seats, offering excellent wrapping and support.
Most importantly, the space.
Looking back from the cockpit, the original back seat area had completely disappeared.
In its place was a door.
A door leading to the living area.
Qin Lin pushed the door open.
Behind the door was a living space of about ten square meters.
On the left was a single bed, 1.2 meters wide, complete with a mattress and pillow.
There were drawers under the bed for storage.
On the right were a small table and two folding chairs; the table was fixed to the wall and could be folded away.
At the very back was a miniature bathroom.
Qin Lin pushed the door open and took a look.
Inside were a toilet, a sink, and even a simple shower head.
He didn't know where the water would come from yet, but at least the foundation was there.
There was lighting on the ceiling, providing a soft glow.
The walls were made of a light-gray composite material that felt warm to the touch and should have some thermal insulation properties.
The air didn't have the plastic smell common in new cars; instead, it had a faint, fresh scent.
The Air Filtration System must have started working.
Qin Lin walked to the center of the living area and looked around.
Though simple, this was already a space where one could live long-term.
A bed, a bathroom, a table.
In this Apocalypse where it was forty degrees below zero, this was practically paradise.
"This... what is this?"
Su Yuran's voice came from behind him.
Qin Lin turned around and saw her standing at the doorway between the cockpit and the living area.
Her hand gripped the doorframe, her face full of disbelief.
"As you can see," Qin Lin said, "an RV."
"But... just now it was still a beat-up sedan..."
Su Yuran walked into the living area, her fingers carefully touching the wall.
"How is this possible? Am I dreaming?"
"You can pinch yourself."
Qin Lin walked over to the control panel.
Right next to the table, a touchscreen was embedded in the wall.
He tapped the screen.
The interface lit up, showing several options:
Temperature Control
Air Filtration
Lighting
Energy Management
Water Tank Status
Qin Lin opened Temperature Control.
[Current Internal Temperature: 5°C]
[External Temperature: -38°C]
[Temperature Control Range: -20°C to 40°C]
[Activate Constant Temperature Mode?]
He tapped "Yes."
A slight sound of moving air came from within the walls.
A few seconds later, the temperature in the living area began to rise noticeably.
Su Yuran felt the warmth, and her subconsciously hugged arms relaxed.
"It... it's heating up?"
"Basic temperature control System."
Qin Lin then opened Air Filtration.
"And this."
[Air Filtration System Activated]
[Filtering Level: Elementary (Can filter dust, pollen, and some bacteria)]
[Cannot filter: Toxic gases, viruses, radioactive dust]
"How come I can't see these things you're talking about?"
