Chapter 13: A Gamble

Ever since Zhu Xiu allowed her to make fire, for the next two days, Bai Wanwan deliberately cooked over fire at every meal, eating cooked food.

At first, Zhu Xiu would watch her with great vigilance, but later he noticeably relaxed.

Bai Wanwan also noticed that although he had regained his Beast Form, he didn't seem hostile toward her.

He had even protected her several times.

"Zhu Xiu, I want to go out and bask in the sun. Coil me up and take me out."

She directly threw herself onto his beast body, softening her voice as she spoke to him.

Zhu Xiu turned his head, looking at her with his dark, inky eyes.

Every time this happened, Bai Wanwan still felt a bit apprehensive inside.

After leaving the Cave, the King Cobra's enormous beast body weaved through the forest.

Just as her eyes were half-open and half-closed, something white seemed to flash by in the distance.

She immediately opened her half-squinted eyes wide. A familiar figure appeared in her field of vision.

It was Xin Feng!

After being tormented by Zhu Xiu with wild boars and dead mice, seeing Xin Feng now filled her with a sense of familiarity and excitement.

She was just about to wave at Xin Feng, who was standing on a tree branch, when she saw him raise a finger to his lips.

She quickly withdrew her gaze, glanced at Zhu Xiu—he didn't seem to have noticed.

The King Cobra slid forward leisurely, soon arriving above the Waterfall.

Amidst the roaring sound of flowing water, Bai Wanwan caught sight of a figure disappearing into the distant river.

She immediately patted Zhu Xiu's beast body and said, "I want to go down and soak for a bit."

Zhu Xiu seemed to understand. He coiled around her and leapt down the Waterfall.

Splashing water surrounded her, drenching her to the bone with a chilling cold.

The thrill of weightlessness made her feel like she was on a roller coaster, and then Zhu Xiu supported her, landing steadily.

He extended his long tail, directly placing her into the pond.

Bai Wanwan waved at him, "You don't need to stay with me. I'll swim on my own."

As she spoke, she swam several laps back and forth in the water.

Seeing that Zhu Xiu really had no intention of entering the water, she finally dove in headfirst.

After diving quite deep, she saw Xin Feng's figure. Before she could swim over to him, Xin Feng was already swimming toward her.

The distance between them closed quickly. Xin Feng embraced her tightly, their bodies pressed close together.

They couldn't speak underwater, so they could only look at each other with wide-open eyes.

Xin Feng gestured a couple of times with his hand, but she didn't understand what he meant at all.

Just as she was about to shake her head, the Male had already cupped the back of her head, and a scorching kiss descended.

Bai Wanwan missed him too. She reached out and wrapped her arms around his lean waist.

His kiss was fierce and hot. Bai Wanwan tilted her head back to meet it.

Xin Feng's arms tightened around her more and more, as if projecting all his worry and longing for her into this embrace.

Bai Wanwan was kissed until she was a bit breathless. As she tilted her head back, she suddenly saw the water's surface shrouded by a massive shadow.

She quickly pushed Xin Feng away with force and swiftly swam toward the surface.

The pond was deep, appearing emerald green, making it difficult to see clearly below.

After surfacing, Bai Wanwan masked her guilt, waved at Zhu Xiu, and smiled, "Hey, I want to play a bit longer."

Seeing that Bai Wanwan was fine, the King Cobra settled back down and closed his eyes.

Bai Wanwan slowed her breathing. After swimming three laps under his watchful eye, she was just about to dive down again.

Suddenly, an arm wrapped around her waist from the side.

Bai Wanwan, startled, quickly pushed him toward the edge of the pond.

There happened to be a protruding rock there that could block the view from above.

Just as Bai Wanwan was about to speak, Xin Feng lightly tapped her lips.

Then he leaned in and whispered in her ear with an extremely low voice, "You don't have an Innate Ability. If you speak, he'll hear you. Just listen to me."

Bai Wanwan nodded to show she understood.

Xin Feng held her, letting her lean against his chest effortlessly.

"The terrain here isn't good. I can't take you away today. Next time he goes hunting, I'll come to take you away."

Hearing that she couldn't leave with him, she felt a bit disappointed and couldn't help but let her mouth droop.

Xin Feng sighed softly, "He has no reason right now. If we really fight, I'm afraid you'll get hurt."

Bai Wanwan, of course, knew he was considering her well-being and thinking of everything.

She raised her hand, wrapped her arms around his neck, and actively leaned in to kiss his lips.

The two of them hid beneath the protruding rock.

Xin Feng rubbed his thumb over her reddened, slightly swollen lips. His Rui Feng eyes were filled with reluctant affection.

"Wait for me to come get you."

Bai Wanwan could only nod. Watching him turn and dive into the water, a faint feeling of gloom rose in her heart.

After adjusting her mood, she pretended to swim a couple of laps on the surface before waving at Zhu Xiu on the shore.

"Zhu Xiu, I've soaked enough. Let's go."

The dozing Zhu Xiu opened his eyelids, glanced at her, then coiled his long tail around her.

He leapt up, ascending against the Waterfall's current.

As soon as they emerged, they startled a group of beastmen.

"King Cobra!"

The group of beastmen were greatly alarmed and immediately launched an attack on Zhu Xiu.

Bai Wanwan immediately saw thick, black mist rapidly surge out from Zhu Xiu's beast skin.

Damn it!

She had worked hard for two days, finally managing to make the black mist on him grow fainter.

Now, as soon as a fight started, he began to go berserk.

Zhu Xiu's thick tail swept out horizontally, directly smashing two beastmen away.

Zhu Xiu's pupils had already turned deep black. He opened his beast mouth, his crimson forked tongue hissing, as if it were a summons from hell.

Bai Wanwan felt anxious inside. The situation had clearly stabilized, but who knew encountering these beastmen would turn things out like this.

If this continued, these beastmen would all die, Zhu Xiu would go berserk, and she might even suffer as well.

"You can't defeat him. Quickly take the injured Males and leave!"

The beastmen also realized they couldn't defeat Zhu Xiu. They gritted their teeth in frustration but no longer dared to attack proactively.
