293: Chapter 293 is a bit strange.
The beastmen didn't know what to say for a moment.
Jin Yi added, "I will do my best to drive away those Bear Clan Beastmen. If anyone still has any grievances, you can come to me. Don't make things difficult for a Female."
Most of the Males had been incited by their anger in the heat of the moment.
Now, hearing the Young Clan Leader accuse them of harassing a Female, they all felt a bit guilty.
Looking at the Young Clan Leader's pale face, it was obvious he hadn't rested well these past few days while busy resisting the Bear Clan Beastmen.
Consequently, everyone felt even more ashamed, their voices rising in a ragged chorus like children who had done something wrong.
"Alright..."
A crisis was thus defused by Jin Yi with just a few words.
Jin Yuan was unwilling to let it go, but she had suffered enough at Bai Wanwan's hands. Coupled with the fact that Bai Wan had Jin Yi's support, she didn't dare do anything else and slunk away, hiding among the beastmen.
She prayed in her heart that Bai Wanwan wouldn't come to settle accounts with her.
After all the beastmen of the Tribe had left, Jin Yi slowly turned to face Bai Wanwan.
"I'm sorry you were startled."
Bai Wanwan suppressed the anger in her eyes. Although she hadn't said a word after Jin Yi appeared, she had already silently memorized the faces of those beastmen.
She had never been some kind-hearted, innocent flower; she was the type to seek revenge for even the smallest slight.
She didn't have many desires and never took the initiative to provoke others, yet these people kept bothering her over and over again.
Because of the Bear Clan's siege, food was scarce.
She understood that these beastmen were in a bad mood, but their bad mood didn't justify them being incited to target her.
She could ignore those who were merely incited, but she had already noted down the beastmen who had taken the lead in instigating the trouble.
"It's fine," Bai Wanwan said, giving a feigned magnanimous smile.
At this point, there was really nothing left for the two of them to say.
However, Jin Yi didn't turn to leave. He looked at the plot of land behind her. "Can these things really keep the Females and Cubs from going hungry?"
"If they can be successfully planted and harvested, it shouldn't be much of a problem."
Expectation rose in Jin Yi's heart. "If there's anything you need help with, you can tell me directly."
"Mhm, I won't be polite with you about that."
Jin Yi originally wanted to say more, but he looked up and saw Xin Feng, standing beside Bai Wanwan, staring at him with a calm gaze.
The other man said nothing, yet Jin Yi felt as if his thoughts had been seen through.
Suppressing everything he wanted to say, he nodded to Xin Feng. "I have to lead the team out now."
Xin Feng held Bai Wanwan's waist and nodded back at him.
Jin Yi didn't linger any longer and turned to stride away.
After watching Jin Yi leave, Xin Feng noticed that the Female in his arms still seemed to be looking at him.
The hand around her waist tightened involuntarily. "Wan Wan, what are you looking at?"
Bai Wanwan still didn't look away, frowning and tilting her head in thought.
"Don't you think Jin Yi seems a bit strange?"
"Strange?"
So Jin Yi's behavior seemed strange to Wan Wan.
He gave a soft chuckle, not exposing the truth.
Whether Jin Yi liked Wan Wan and whether he could win her favor depended entirely on his own ability.
He wouldn't take the initiative to point it out.
Bai Wanwan didn't say anything more. She thought of her intimacy with Jin Yi that day and felt a bit uncomfortable.
Could it be that Jin Yi was also because of that matter...
"Well, it's nothing. I'm probably overthinking it."
She pulled her thoughts back and looked at the damp earth before her, praying that she would succeed in growing potatoes this time.
If she had known she would be coming to the Beast World Continent to clear land, she should have studied more about farming.
Then she wouldn't have to waste time with repeated trial and error.
She didn't even know if potatoes needed watering; she just felt that the temperature had been too high during the last planting, so the potatoes hadn't grown well.
That was why she watered them every day, hoping to cool them down.
But she was also afraid that too much water would rot the potatoes.
So every day she only added a shallow layer; when the temperature rose, the moisture would evaporate in no time.
After keeping at it for a few days, the growth seemed okay.
"Let's go. It's getting hot. Let's head home so you don't get too much sun."
Xin Feng supported her waist, looking at her increasingly prominent belly.
Once this litter was born, the family would have a few more Cubs.
With only three Beast Husbands in the entire household, it was still far from enough...
Bai Wanwan was also thinking about the potatoes and didn't notice the change in Xin Feng's expression.
After returning home, The Cubs seemed hungry again, circling around Bai Wanwan and Xin Feng's feet.
"Be good, don't bother your Mother. Father Beast will cut some meat for you."
After shooing The Cubs into the house, Xin Feng turned to cut the meat.
He patiently fed The Cubs strip by strip.
Bai Wanwan sat on a nearby lounge chair, watching quietly.
She watched him feed all The Cubs and saw how the once tiny newborns had grown to nearly the size of Lambs.
Their appetites would only get bigger. If there wasn't enough food, it would truly be a worry!
While she was pondering other ways to stockpile food, the Wolf Cub and Cat Cub, who were eating, transformed into two naked, chubby babies in the blink of an eye.
"Mu... ah, Mu."
The two chubby babies mumbled some indistinct sounds.
Overjoyed, Bai Wanwan immediately stood up and beckoned to the two chubby babies. "Come, let Mommy give you a hug."
The two chubby babies, having just transformed into human form, weren't quite used to it yet and even tried to crawl on all fours.
Xin Feng gently steadied them, guiding them step by step toward Bai Wanwan.
After two or three steps, they became steadier. Happy smiles appeared on their beautiful little faces as they lunged toward her legs.
"Mu... Ma..."
Their childish, milky voices nearly melted Bai Wanwan's heart.
Another Wolf Cub who could already transform, seeing his younger brothers gain Mother's affection by transforming, immediately did the same and came running over stumbling, only to be pulled into Bai Wanwan's arms.
Seeing this, the several Snake Cubs slithered around the room restlessly, their tongues flickering with a "hissing" sound.
Noticing this, she beckoned to them as well.
When The Cubs approached, she kissed each one in turn.
"You are all Mommy's good babies. Your big brothers transformed earlier because they came out of Mommy's belly first. Now that they've transformed, it will be your turn soon."
Feeling that Mother's love remained unchanged, The Cubs' restless hearts gradually calmed down, and they leaned against her feet, rubbing against her affectionately.
Bai Wanwan let go of her worries, a bright smile reappearing on her face.
Gradually, the sunlight streaming in from outside grew dim.
"Eh? Did time pass that quickly today?"
On second thought, that didn't seem right. They had just come back from watering the plants and hadn't even eaten lunch yet, so it couldn't possibly be getting dark already.
Just as she thought that, a clap of thunder boomed overhead.
It startled several Cubs, who whimpered and squeezed tightly into her arms.
Rumble... Rumble...
The weather changed abruptly. Following the thunder, raindrops as big as beans began to pelt down.
Bai Wanwan's expression changed drastically, and she immediately stood up to ask Xin Feng.
"Is the Rainy Season here?"
If the Rainy Season was here, what would happen to her potatoes?
