75: Chapter 75 Encirclement
Xin Feng immediately held her and turned to look behind them.
"I'll go out and check; you watch The Cubs."
Xin Feng quickly got up and walked toward the Cave entrance. The Cave had already been buried by snow, leaving only a very small space at the top.
"The snow collapsed. Don't worry, I'll clear it out."
Xin Feng's words put Bai Wanwan at ease. She held the few Cubs and played with them.
The Cubs had grown another size, and holding the Tiger Cub alone was already a bit strenuous for her.
Fortunately, the Tiger Cub was smart. It seemed to know that the Mother couldn't hold it anymore, so even when Bai Wanwan was affectionate with it, it would quickly hop onto the ground and rub against her legs.
Bai Wanwan held the two Cat Cubs, sat close to it, and didn't forget to praise it, "Such a good, obedient Tiger Cub for Mommy! But Mommy can still hold you now; when you grow up, I really won't be able to hold you anymore."
It shifted its body, curled up near her waist, and pressed its head against her abdomen, seemingly listening to the movements of its younger siblings inside her belly.
Bai Wanwan stroked it gently, over and over.
Xin Feng worked quickly, and half of the Cave entrance was soon cleared.
He used a stone basin to scoop up snow and walked farther away to dump it.
After making more than ten trips back and forth, the snow at the entrance was almost completely cleared.
Bai Wanwan got up to start a fire, thinking that by the time the two Males returned, it would be time for lunch.
She used flint to light the dry grass and firewood from the system space and set a pot over the fire.
She then took out several slices of raw meat with a good balance of fat and lean, cutting them into relatively uniform chunks.
She preferred lean meat, but the two Males liked meat with both fat and lean sections.
So, today she planned to make them braised pork.
Xin Feng was long accustomed to the dishes she made. Zhu Xiu was still slowly getting used to it, but he clearly wasn't very resistant.
She carried the iron pot to the Cave entrance. Seeing Xin Feng still busy, she called out to him, "Don't rush; take your time. I'll start cooking first."
"You're still pregnant with Cubs; I'll do it later."
"No need, I feel fine right now. You keep busy."
After shouting this, Bai Wanwan scooped up more than half a pot of snow in the iron pot and carried it back into the Cave.
This was a world without industrialization; the entire world was crystal clear and clean, so the snowflakes naturally contained no heavy metal pollutants.
Boiling it directly yielded clear, transparent fresh water.
She dropped the meat chunks into the water. Once it boiled, she skimmed off the blood foam and boiled it briefly before taking the meat out to set aside.
She poured out all the water in the pot, wiped it clean, and without adding oil, dumped all the meat in to sear. After it was slightly browned and the oil rendered, she took it out.
She exchanged for rock sugar using points in the System Mall and put it into the pot...
Not long after, the aroma of braised pork filled the Cave.
A full large basin—enough for her two Males to eat their fill.
She picked up a piece to taste; it wasn't tough or greasy, just right.
Eating only meat was too rich, so she stir-fried a side dish of sliced potatoes.
By the time she finished her preparations, the two Males returned together from outside.
"The food is ready! Come sit down and eat."
The two Males walked over together. Zhu Xiu took the stone basin containing the braised pork from her hand.
Just as Bai Wanwan was about to turn to get the bowls and chopsticks, Xin Feng was one step ahead and already served the rice.
After they all sat down, Zhu Xiu turned to Xin Feng and said, "Head west; the path there is safer."
"Good. You are more familiar with this area, so we'll go as you say."
Bai Wanwan took a bite of food, squinted her eyes in satisfaction, and then asked, "By the way, what is the situation over at the Wandering Beast City?"
Zhu Xiu shook his head. "It's too far; I didn't go over to check. Yin Da suffered such a huge loss; he definitely won't let us off easily."
At that time, the Wandering Beast City was engulfed in flames, clearly indicating someone had intentionally set the fire.
They lost the energy stones and the Sacred Female.
Based on his understanding of Yin Da, he would surely go mad and would definitely be searching everywhere for them these few days.
This location was relatively remote, but it wasn't absolutely safe either.
It was best to leave now. If they waited until Wan Wan gave birth and there were several newborn Cubs, the young ones would easily perish in the freezing weather.
The three of them talked while quickly finishing the large basin of braised pork.
In the afternoon, Xin Feng went farther out to scout the situation. When he returned, he told Zhu Xiu, "The ice plains are covered with the footprints of Wandering Beasts. It won't take long before they find their way here."
Zhu Xiu was silent for a moment, then turned to look at Bai Wanwan. "Wan Wan, can your body hold up? If you can manage, we'll leave today."
Rather than waiting for Yin Da and the others to find them, it was better to leave first.
They only had two Males, and they had to split their focus to protect Wan Wan.
If Yin Da came leading the team, Zhu Xiu wasn't entirely confident he could lead Bai Wanwan to retreat unscathed.
Bai Wanwan truly didn't want to travel in the heavy snow, but the prerequisite was safety.
Hearing that the Wandering Beastmen were almost upon them, and knowing this place was no longer safe, what else did she have to hesitate about?
She immediately made her decision. "Okay, we'll pack our things and leave right away."
After eating, Bai Wanwan put all their belongings into the system space.
Zhu Xiu was worried, so he wrapped her in several layers of beast skin, almost turning her into a cocoon.
The little Cubs were also placed by Xin Feng into a Basket lined with beast skins.
Once prepared, Zhu Xiu rolled her and The Cubs up and slowly slid out of the Cave.
Xin Feng transformed into the Silver Wolf and scouted ahead.
From time to time, he would dart out to check the situation and then run back to guide Zhu Xiu on which direction to go.
With this coordination, they traveled until it was nearly dark.
"You've used too much Innate Ability. Give Wan Wan and The Cubs to me; my Innate Ability is better at resisting wind and snow."
Zhu Xiu needed to conserve enough Innate Ability to cope with potential sudden dangers.
After only a slight hesitation, he transferred Bai Wanwan onto his back.
Bai Wanwan felt dizzy from the jolting. Opening her eyes, she saw the swirling snowstorm, turned over, and wrapped her arms around Xin Feng's neck. "How much longer until we reach the Tribe?"
"The road ahead is unsafe, so we have to take a detour. It will probably take two days to arrive."
Two days was a bit too long. Even though the two Males tried their best to control their speed and movements, they would still be jostled.
After Xin Feng carried her, Zhu Xiu took over scouting.
When he returned from scouting for the third time, his expression became very stern. "We can't go this way anymore. We have to turn back and go around behind that mountain."
Xin Feng didn't ask further and immediately did as he said, turning back while carrying Bai Wanwan.
Zhu Xiu followed closely behind.
But even so, an hour later, Bai Wanwan heard the sound of countless beasts galloping wildly.
The drowsy her suddenly woke up and turned to look behind her.
The moon overhead was desolate yet bright, clearly illuminating the Wandering Beasts charging toward them from a distance.
"Xin Feng, take Wan Wan and go first."
Zhu Xiu made an immediate decision, instantly mobilizing his Innate Ability, and his beast form instantly grew several times larger.
Xin Feng only hesitated slightly before spreading his four limbs and galloping rapidly across the snowfield while carrying Bai Wanwan.
Bai Wanwan held tightly onto his neck, turning her head to look around. The Wandering Beastmen were almost surrounding them from all directions.
The previous chapter had some content restricted; I am rushing to see if I can get it released sooner for everyone to read. Please excuse the inconvenience.
