57: Chapter 57 A Pair of Dead
"No, luckily you came in time."
Bai Wanwan was very gratified; for Xin Feng to find this place and even sneak in, he had completely risked his own life.
At this moment, Bai Wanwan, who didn't easily trust people, was somewhat moved, and her trust in him deepened by another level.
Now that the crisis was temporarily averted, Bai Wanwan thought of her missing cub.
She glanced at him a few times. "Where is the Tiger Cub? Did you find it?"
Xin Feng's eyes, which had been bright since finding her, suddenly dimmed.
"Wan Wan, I'm sorry. I've looked everywhere, but I couldn't find the Tiger Cub."
The corners of Bai Wanwan's mouth couldn't help but tighten.
Although she wasn't prepared to be a mother at first, they were still the ones she had carried for dozens of days.
And she had nursed them for a while.
The silly and adorable Little Tiger Cubs were suddenly gone; it felt like a piece of her heart had been carved out.
She had never felt this bad before...
"Wan Wan..."
Sensing the change in her mood, Xin Feng walked to her side and put his arm around her shoulder. "I've looked everywhere. Although I didn't find the Tiger Cub, I didn't find any clues that it was harmed either. Maybe... it's still alive. After I take you away, I'll look for it again."
Right, not finding anything was actually a good result; there was still some hope.
"Then when are we leaving?" She looked up into his eyes and asked.
"Once it's dark and the Wandering Beasts have gone to sleep, it will be easier for me to take you away."
"Okay, then we'll wait until dark."
After Xin Feng stayed in Yin Da's residence for a while, he said, "The scent of blood in this Stone House is dissipating. I can't stay any longer, or I'll be smelled out."
Bai Wanwan was a bit reluctant to let him go and pulled his hand, asking, "Then where are you going? How will I find you later?"
He raised his hand again to pull her into his embrace to comfort her. "I'll be nearby. You don't need to look for me; I won't leave."
Only then did Bai Wanwan feel relieved. "Then be careful, you must not be discovered."
She had seen with her own eyes over the past few days how cruel those Wandering Beasts could be.
She was safe for now, but if Xin Feng were caught, his end would surely be miserable.
This was the first Beast Husband she had accepted; she didn't want him to face danger.
Xin Feng nodded. "Wait for me."
Then he quickly left.
Not long after he stepped out, Yin Da returned.
Bai Wanwan thought to herself how close that was, but her face wore her trademark smile. "Why are you back again? Did you ask for me?"
"I did. I've already sent people to look for it for you."
Pausing, he added, "This time we raided a Caravan from a Medium-sized Tribe. The goods will be brought back tomorrow, and you can take your pick then."
He sat down relaxedly on a Stone Stool, his fierce expression softening significantly.
Bai Wanwan sat down next to him. Thinking that they were about to leave soon, and to avoid any complications, she acted even more enthusiastic.
Her voice was also incredibly gentle. "Yin Da, you're really amazing, much more capable than those Males in our Cat Clan!"
Yin Da was very pleased, his eyes showing a comfortable relaxation.
"As long as you stay this well-behaved, I'll give you whatever you want."
Bai Wanwan thought to herself that he couldn't give her what she wanted.
The first thing was to leave the Wandering Beast City.
She didn't like anything about this place.
But her eyes crinkled into a smile, as if she were extremely happy. "Really? As long as you're good to me, I'll always be good to you too."
Yin Da felt emotionally satisfied by her words and reached out to touch her face. "Are you hungry? I'll have someone bring you food."
She nodded obediently. "I'm hungry."
Yin Da soon had someone bring over meat from a creature called a Snow Beast.
Although Snow Beast meat didn't have as much energy as Unicorn Deer meat, it tasted wonderful, melting in the mouth like ice cream with a hint of saltiness and sweetness.
Because it wasn't smelly like other raw meats and was more like sashimi, Bai Wanwan could eat it too.
Snow Beasts were not only delicious but also rare; they weren't easily hunted.
In the Wandering Beast City, only the City Lord and a few other leaders could eat it freely.
But now, there was also Bai Wanwan.
After Yin Da finished eating, a Wandering Beast came looking for him for some business, and he got up to leave.
Bai Wanwan quickly fed the remaining Snow Beast meat to the Cubs.
She wondered if Xin Feng had had a good meal over the past few days?
She waited and waited until finally, the sky slowly turned dark.
"Wan Wan, come out."
It was Xin Feng's voice.
Bai Wanwan had long been prepared. She immediately picked up the basket containing the Cubs and walked out quickly.
Xin Feng stepped out from behind the Stone House and waved at her. "Wan Wan, over here."
She stepped forward, and Xin Feng took her hand, enveloping her with his Innate Ability.
"Let's go."
Bai Wanwan looked curiously at the white mist-like substance appearing around her body.
"What is this?"
"This is my Innate Ability. It will weaken the scent we give off."
Beastmen are extremely sensitive to scents. If it hadn't been for the enhancement of his Innate Ability, he wouldn't have been able to sneak in at all.
He likely would have been discovered the moment he entered the Wandering Beast City.
Xin Feng seemed to be very familiar with the terrain already. He led her through twists and turns, and they soon left the very center of the Beast City.
Suddenly, three Wandering Beastmen walked toward them from ahead. Xin Feng quickly pulled her to hide behind a nearby Stone House.
The three Wandering Beastmen approached while talking.
They suddenly stopped not far from where they were.
"This time it was a Caravan from a Medium-sized Tribe. I heard there are many valuable goods."
"Valuable goods? We're not short of those... what we're short of are Females. That Caravan didn't have any Females... The one brought back last time called Bai Wanwan, they say she's a Sacred Female. The City Lord kept her for himself and didn't even let us have a taste..."
"Shut up! If you want to die, don't drag us down with you."
Seeing that they weren't leaving, Bai Wanwan signaled to Xin Feng with her eyes, suggesting they take another path.
The voices of the discussion behind them slowly faded as they cautiously crept along the base of the walls.
"Squeak..."
A wooden door was pushed open, and the sound of footsteps came from inside the Stone House.
Xin Feng pulled her to hide again, only to find that the hiding spot could only fit one person.
Bai Wanwan made a split-second decision and pushed Xin Feng inside.
Everything happened too fast; Xin Feng didn't even have time to stop her.
"Bai Wanwan?"
Zhu Xiu's voice came from behind her.
Seeing that Xin Feng seemed about to act, Bai Wanwan quickly winked at him, signaling him not to do anything reckless.
After seeing that Xin Feng didn't move, Bai Wanwan slowly turned around.
"Second Leader, what a coincidence. Out for a stroll?"
Bai Wanwan thought to herself that of all the paths she could have taken, she had to circle around right to his doorstep.
This was truly disastrous.
"Yes, out for a stroll... Is the Sacred Female also out for a stroll?"
Bai Wanwan felt like he was being sarcastic.
She instinctively looked at him, but it was a bit dark, and she couldn't see clearly.
"Yes, I accidentally took the wrong path. I'm heading back now."
Having said that, Bai Wanwan lifted her foot to leave.
But before her next step could land, Zhu Xiu grabbed her hand. "You're going the wrong way. You should go this way."
With a tug on her arm, Bai Wanwan stumbled two steps closer to him.
"I'm just walking around; I'm not going that way."
After steadying herself, Bai Wanwan exerted a little force, trying to pull her hand free.
Zhu Xiu suddenly gave a soft chuckle. "Really not going this way?"
Bai Wanwan thought about Xin Feng still hiding there. If she followed Zhu Xiu, wouldn't all their efforts to escape have been in vain?
"Yeah, I'm not going that way. I want to walk by myself for a bit longer."
Zhu Xiu ignored her, gripping her wrist and leading her forward.
"Second Leader, did you not understand what I said?" She couldn't break free and was getting a bit annoyed.
Zhu Xiu didn't turn his head. "If you go back, that Male will lose his life along with you."
I'm not feeling very well, but seeing everyone's comments gives me plenty of motivation. Thank you all for your support!
