215: Chapter 215 Charging Out
The night was as dark as ink, and the Tribe's torches swayed in the wind.
“Get out of the way!” Xin Feng roared at the beastmen blocking his path.
“No, you must go back immediately.”
Xin Feng had little patience left. He raised his front paw and swung it out fiercely, creating a sharp arc of light.
The Golden Lion guards were caught off guard, staggered backward from the blow, and felt their qi and blood churning in their chests.
Taking advantage of the opening, Xin Feng darted towards the Tribe's main gate like a silver lightning bolt.
“Stop him! Close the gate quickly!” the guard shouted at his retreating figure.
Xin Feng suddenly turned his head, his stark white fangs gleaming coldly in the darkness, and a low warning rumbled from his throat.
The desperate resolve burned in his amber wolf eyes. Wan Wan was still outside, and even if Yan Lie was with her, they would surely not survive a beast tide!
Several guards rushed forward, attacking him.
The agile Silver Wolf deftly dodged their pounces, then his hind legs pushed off with sudden force, and his strong body crashed into the heavy wooden palisade like an arrow shot from a bowstring.
With a thunderous crash, wood splinters flew.
The Silver Wolf smashed open the Tribe's gate, his figure quickly merging into the vast night, leaving only the stirred dust slowly dissipating under the moonlight.
“Quick! Inform the Chieftain!”
The guard clutched his chest, his voice filled with anger.
Inside the Stone House in the center of the Tribe, the firelight illuminated Chieftain Jin Cang's dignified face, making it flicker between light and dark.
“Xin Feng injured a guard?” Jin Cang slapped the Stone Table, making the Stone Bowl clatter. “Is he mad? Leaving the city without permission during a beast tide!”
Jin Yi, who was standing nearby reporting affairs, looked up in surprise at the remark.
Doubt knitted his brows: “Did he explain why?”
The guard shook his head: “I only heard him say 'there's no time,' then he rushed out.”
A terrible guess surfaced in Jin Yi's mind, and his voice unconsciously deepened: “Female Bai Wanwan... has she returned?”
This sentence was like a stone thrown into a calm lake.
Jin Cang turned abruptly, a crack appearing in his dignified facade: “What did you say? Bai Wanwan hasn't returned?”
Jin Yi's fingertips tightened, “Tonight she went out with the search party to look for Shi Hua. She should have returned by now...”
“Jin Yue!” Before he could finish, Jin Cang had already roared sharply, “Immediately confirm Bai Wanwan's whereabouts!”
The Stone House fell into a dead silence, broken only by the crackling of the burning torch.
Jin Yi could feel his Father Beast’s gaze, substantial and heavy, pressing down on his shoulders.
“Jin Yi...” Jin Cang’s voice suddenly became low, “Bai Wanwan is not an ordinary Female. Nothing must happen to her.”
Jin Yi's jaw tightened, not replying.
“She will be your future mate!” Jin Cang looked at his cub, complex emotions Jin Yi couldn't decipher flashing in his eyes, “The Tribe needs her, and so do you...”
“Chieftain!”
Jin Yue's hurried footsteps broke the standoff between father and son. “Chieftain, Bai Wanwan and her Beast Husband are not in their residence!”
Jin Cang's face instantly turned pale.
His hand gripped the edge of the Stone Table tightly, as if he was forcibly suppressing his emotions.
When he looked up again, his eyes were filled with determination: “Jin Yi, immediately lead Yellow-Tier Males and above out of the city! Spare no effort, you must bring Bai Wanwan back safely!”
Jin Yi's heart trembled. Dispatching elites on a night ravaged by a beast tide was an unprecedented act for the Tribe in decades.
Bai Wanwan was just an outsider Female, why would his Father Beast do this?
“Go quickly!”
There was no time to ask questions. Jin Yi clenched his right fist to his chest, and a resolute light flashed in his silver-gray eyes. “Father Beast, rest assured, I will definitely bring Female Bai Wanwan back.”
Jin Yi quickly turned and left.
Jin Cang could no longer sit still, getting up and pacing in the Stone House.
“Chieftain, being this anxious won't help. The Sacred Female is protected by the beast god; she will surely turn misfortune into good fortune. You don't need to worry.”
Jin Cang stopped, raising a finger to point in the direction outside the Tribe. “We both know what the situation is like outside right now. A Little Female like her, even with a Yellow-Tier Male by her side, has no chance against the beast tide.”
Elder sighed. What could be done? Everything could only be left to fate.
“The Golden Lion Tribe finally welcomed a Sacred Female; nothing must happen to her!”
Bai Wanwan and Yan Lie had hidden in the cave for two days, eating well and sleeping soundly. Aside from worrying whether wild beasts would crawl in when they woke up, Bai Wanwan felt quite comfortable otherwise.
“There’s no more movement outside. I’ll go out and check the situation.”
Yan Lie said, holding her hand, then stood up.
He had to quickly take Wan Wan back to the Golden Lion Tribe, away from the beast tide areas, otherwise, they wouldn't be truly safe.
Yan Lie agilely slipped out of the cave entrance and paused there. “Wan Wan, don’t be afraid. I’ll be nearby. If you’re scared, just shout loudly for me.”
“I’m not that fragile, I’m not scared. You go and come back quickly.”
She was more worried about the risks Yan Lie might face outside than for herself.
“Okay, I’ll be right back.”
Yan Lie dared not delay, wanting to scout quickly and return to Wan Wan's side to ease her worry.
His figure soon disappeared from the small patch of view at the cave entrance.
Bai Wanwan couldn't sit still, rubbing her hands and pacing back and forth.
It wasn't safe outside yet; she could still hear the roars of wild beasts in the distance.
After pacing back and forth dozens of times, the light from the cave entrance was suddenly blocked by a shadow.
Bai Wanwan was startled, and then Yan Lie's voice immediately came from outside, “Wan Wan, don’t be scared, it’s me. It’s relatively safe outside now. Give me your hand, I’ll take you back to the Tribe.”
Hearing his words, she joyfully stepped forward and offered him her hand.
With just a slight pull, Yan Lie tugged Bai Wanwan out of the cave entrance.
He quickly crouched down. “Wan Wan, get on.”
Bai Wanwan held onto his back, climbed on, and tightly hugged his neck.
Noticing the Little Female was seated securely, Yan Lie stood up and ran towards the edge of the forest.
The further they ran, the more relaxed Yan Lie felt.
They hadn't encountered any wild beasts along the way. As long as they continued for a while longer, reached the grassland, and entered the Golden Lion Tribe's territory, they would be safe.
But as he ran, Yan Lie's pace gradually slowed.
Bai Wanwan noticed and tilted her head to look at him, “What’s wrong?”
“Wan Wan, something’s not right.”
After saying that, Yan Lie sped up and ran a bit further, then leaped onto the sturdy trunk of a large tree, landing steadily.
Now, without even needing to ask, Bai Wanwan understood what Yan Lie meant by “something’s not right.”
The forest edge was teeming with wild beasts, and the plain at the foot of the mountain was even more densely packed.
Bai Wanwan's eyes widened in shock. “Are they going to attack the Golden Lion Tribe?”
“Very likely, but the Golden Lion Tribe is a Large Tribe; dealing with these wild beasts shouldn't be a problem.”
Yan Lie only let Bai Wanwan take one look before quickly leaping down from the tree trunk and running back into the depths of the forest.
