28: Chapter 28 Ordinary
Xin Yu always listened to his older brother's words; once pulled back by him, he quieted down.
Hu Ya snorted, not even sparing them a glance. Surrounded by her other Beast Husbands, she lifted her feet and walked into the cave.
A moment later, Hu Ya's somewhat shrill cry drifted out.
Xin Yu looked into the cave aggrievedly, while Xin Shan, standing beside him, dragged him away.
"Brother, I don't want to go." Xin Yu dragged his feet; he wanted to go back and coax Hu Ya, to make her stop being angry with them.
Xin Shan was more clear-headed. "If we don't go, Ya Ya won't let her anger subside."
Xin Yu couldn't accept this, his face showing some indignation.
"What did we do wrong? Doesn't Ya Ya know that going up the mountain now is very dangerous for us?"
Xin Shan sighed. "Let's go. The sooner we go, the sooner we return."
Xin Yu was slow and didn't realize it, but Xin Shan knew clearly that Ya Ya had always been furious about the fact that they almost became Wan Wan's Beast Husbands.
He just didn't know what had happened today to provoke her so much that she would take her anger out on them.
"We'll be careful. We won't go deep into the mountains. If we can't catch anything, we'll try again tomorrow."
Xin Yu had no choice but to follow Xin Shan's lead and continue into the mountains.
Bai Wanwan didn't know that Hu Ya was taking her anger out on the two brothers because of her, and even if she did, it was none of her business.
Wu Mu had come by once more after that day, but he was deterred by Bai Wanwan's cold attitude and hadn't appeared again for the time being.
Several days passed. Roger, however, came every day, and Bai Wanwan used the meat he brought to nourish Xin Feng's body.
After Xin Feng's body fully recovered, he put on some weight and looked even more robust.
A cold wind was already blowing outside the cave. Xin Feng gazed out from the entrance for a while before turning back to say to her, "Wan Wan, we're running low on firewood. I'm going up the mountain today to chop some."
The Little Female liked to eat cooked food, so they needed to stockpile more wood at home.
His body hadn't been recovered over the past few days, and the fish and shrimp he'd caught were already finished. Today, he would make several trips to replenish everything they needed.
"Then don't go too far. Be careful of wild beasts."
Bai Wanwan supported her waist; her belly had grown even rounder. She habitually used beast skins to cover it, so while it wasn't very obvious, her movements were sometimes hindered, making it difficult to squat down.
"Alright. While I'm not home, don't go out wandering. Wait for me to come back and accompany you."
Xin Feng knew she had a habit of wandering around. During these days of his slow recovery, he would always accompany her on her walks.
But since he wouldn't be around today and there were many outside beastmen in the Tribe, he wasn't at ease.
"Don't worry, I'll stay at home and won't go anywhere."
It was getting colder outside, and the beastmen didn't like going out anymore either.
She couldn't even find anyone to chat with on her walks, and there was no gossip to enjoy. It was better to stay home and figure out what to have for lunch.
Hearing her answer, Xin Feng finally felt relieved.
He picked up his stone knife and walked to the entrance, glancing back at her once more.
Bai Wanwan smiled at him with crescent eyes, waving her hand to urge him to go and return quickly.
After Xin Feng left, the wind outside grew stronger, whistling loudly.
She walked out of the cave, intending to use a stone basin to fetch some water to boil.
Bending her body to set down the stone basin, she stood back up with some effort.
Just as she was about to ladle water from the stone vat, a hand reached out from beside her.
"I'll help you."
Bai Wanwan turned her head and saw Xin Shan standing nearby.
Not having seen him for a few days, he seemed much more haggard, and there were injuries on his face.
She asked in surprise, "What happened to you?"
"It's nothing. How much water do you need?" he asked while ladling with a Stone Bowl.
"That's enough, that's enough. Not too much."
Only then did Xin Shan stop. Carrying the stone basin with both hands, he walked into her home. "Where should I put this for you?"
Bai Wanwan followed him in and pointed at the stove she'd had Xin Feng build a couple of days ago. "Just put it there. Thanks!"
Xin Shan set down the stone basin but didn't leave immediately.
His gaze swept over the cave. "What else do you need to do? I'll do it for you. It's inconvenient for you while you're pregnant with a cub."
Bai Wanwan waved her hand. "No need, there's nothing else."
Her intent to see him out was very clear.
However, Xin Shan acted as if he hadn't understood. He didn't leave immediately and remained standing where he was.
"Wan Wan, we were wrong to treat you that way before. If you have any difficulties in the future, you can tell me. You only have Xin Feng as a Beast Husband; he might not be able to take care of everything."
"No need. You should head back quickly. If Hu Ya finds out you're here with me, she'll definitely cause a scene with you."
In a while, Xin Feng wouldn't need to go out anymore. Having Xin Feng to look after her would be enough.
With Hu Ya's temperament, if she knew Xin Shan had helped her today, she would definitely take her anger out on him.
Xin Shan opened his mouth; for a moment when he spoke, he had even forgotten he was Hu Ya's Beast Husband.
Wan Wan was right. He was Hu Ya's Beast Husband; the task of taking care of her should be left to her own Beast Husband.
"Alright, then I'll head back first. Take good care of yourself."
Bai Wanwan couldn't wait for him to leave. If Hu Ya saw this, she would go looking for trouble again.
Her energy had been low these past two days, and she didn't have the spare time to mess around with her.
After Xin Shan left, she felt increasingly thirsty and quickly started the fire to boil water.
Just as she lit the fire, the beast skin curtain was lifted, and Roger strode in.
He was as casual as if he were returning to his own home, sitting down boldly on the Stone Stool in front of Bai Wanwan.
"What are you doing here so early today?"
There were at least two hours until mealtime; this man was a bit too eager today.
"Xin Feng isn't here?"
Bai Wanwan leaned her body sideways to toss branches into the stove.
Because of her protruding belly, her movements were inconvenient and somewhat stiff.
"He has things to do. He'll be back in a while."
As she spoke, Roger suddenly leaned in close. That unremarkable face of his was suddenly magnified in front of Bai Wanwan.
It gave her a start, and she immediately reached out to push his face away.
"What are you doing? You're blocking me."
She didn't even bother to give him a second look, continuing to add firewood to the stove.
"Bai Wanwan, I'm leaving the Cat Clan Tribe tomorrow. Don't you feel even a little bit reluctant to see me go?" A smile hung on Roger's face, as he flirted like he usually did with other Females.
Bai Wanwan curled her lip, the disdain on her face completely unconcealed. "Why would I be reluctant? I can't wait for you to leave. You steal my roasted meat every day."
The smile on Roger's face stiffened for a moment, and his brow was tinged with a bit of anger.
"Bai Wanwan, can't you say a couple of nice words with that mouth of yours?"
"To you? Sorry, I can't."
Roger had truly never met a Female like this; no matter what he did, she seemed not to notice.
When facing Xin Feng, her face was full of gentle smiles. When she turned to look at him, that gentleness and mirth vanished completely, replaced by utter disdain.
"You can say them to Xin Feng?"
Bai Wanwan looked at him as if he were an idiot. "Of course. He is my Beast Husband. Can you be the same as him?"
"At least I'm better looking than him!"
Roger was indignant; it was the first time he felt that a Male's face was important.
These words made Bai Wanwan unable to help but laugh. She put down the branches and tapped his face. "How about you go to the river on the back mountain and take a look at yourself? With this plain and ordinary face of yours, how do you have the nerve to say you're better looking than Xin Feng?"
The corner of Roger's mouth twitched. "He was good-looking before he was injured, but now half of his face is as ugly as a Luo beast. You still think he's better looking than me?"
