212: Chapter 212 is the Beast Tide!
Chapter 212: It's a Beast Tide!
"Wan Wan, we should go back."
Yan Lie's voice was as clean as if it were untainted, dispersing the turmoil in Bai Wanwan's heart.
He spread his arms to pull her into his embrace, shielding her from the night's chill.
Bai Wanwan then realized with a start that the temperature on the plains had dropped sharply; the cold wind rustled through the grass, stinging her cheeks.
"Mhm, let's go back and wait for news," she replied softly.
Yan Lie's figure shifted, instantly transforming into his Beast Form.
Under the moonlight, the Snow Leopard's white fur shimmered with a cold light, and his fluid muscle lines traced a silhouette full of power.
To make it easier for Bai Wanwan to ride, he lowered his body, nearly pressing himself against the ground.
Bai Wanwan held his furry head and, with a light leap, landed steadily on his back.
"Are you sitting securely?"
Yan Lie turned his head, his amber beastly pupils looking at her.
Bai Wanwan leaned down and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Alright, let's go."
Only then did Yan Lie slowly rise, first trotting in small steps, then gradually accelerating.
The night wind whistled past her ears, and the Tribe's silhouette gradually became clear in her vision.
Suddenly, Bai Wanwan narrowed her eyes, staring at a figure moving extremely fast across the open wilderness.
"Is there a beastman ahead?"
Yan Lie's eyesight far exceeded that of a Female; he answered clearly, "It's a Golden Lion."
Bai Wanwan stared carefully for a while, frowning in confusion. "Why is there only one?"
She stared at the approaching figure; perhaps it was a Male sent by the Clan Leader to find them?
Thinking this, she propped herself up and was about to ask, but she saw the Golden Lion suddenly lunge, its fangs bared menacingly as it pounced straight for Yan Lie's throat!
"Watch out!"
Bai Wanwan cried out in alarm as Yan Lie leaped vigorously.
"Hold on tight." Yan Lie's voice vibrated through his chest.
She clung tightly to his neck, feeling the muscles bulging beneath her.
Yan Lie maneuvered carefully, both to dodge the attacks and to ensure the Female on his back wasn't affected.
"We are staying temporarily in the Golden Lion Tribe. We came out tonight because a Female went missing..." Yan Lie explained while dodging.
But the opponent didn't listen to Yan Lie at all and continued to attack them.
"Are you not a beastman of the Golden Lion Tribe?" Bai Wanwan questioned sharply.
The opponent remained silent, his sharp claws attacking again without mercy.
To protect her, Yan Lie took a hit on his hind leg, and blood instantly soaked his snow-white fur.
She turned to check Yan Lie's injury, and upon seeing the gushing blood, her anger reached its peak.
"Who on earth are you? Why are you attacking us?" Bai Wanwan suppressed her rage, her gaze fixed on the opponent.
To be able to fight Yan Lie like this, the opponent must be at least a Yellow-Tier Talent.
She had heard that there were only a few dozen Yellow-Tier Beastmen in the entire Golden Lion Tribe.
Why would someone of such status suddenly attack them?
The two fierce beasts fought intensely; because Yan Lie was injured and carrying her, he gradually fell into a disadvantage.
Bai Wanwan quietly took a potato out of the system space and threw it hard when the opponent was off guard.
The Golden Lion didn't know what was being thrown at him, but his instinct was to avoid it.
Seizing the opportunity, Yan Lie closed in quickly, his sharp claws leaving deep bloody gashes on the opponent's forearm.
"Break through! Back to the Tribe!" Bai Wanwan urged urgently.
"Okay."
Because Wan Wan was there, Yan Lie did not linger in the fight.
Everything had to prioritize Wan Wan.
He quickly changed direction, and just as he was about to head back toward the Tribe's side gate, several more figures appeared from the shadows ahead.
Bai Wanwan's heart tightened; she wasn't sure if the figures rushing over were with this Golden Lion.
If they were together, they would be surrounded.
"Change course! Go along the outskirts!"
Yan Lie didn't ask why; since Wan Wan said so, he executed it immediately.
He quickly took off and galloped away.
Bai Wanwan looked back and saw that the newly appeared shadows had already merged with the previous Golden Lion.
They were indeed together!
They were flanking in a fan formation, clearly intending to cut off their path back.
"Wait..."
Bai Wanwan was unsure of what their purpose was.
Would there be beastmen lying in ambush inside the Tribe too?
Now that Xin Feng and Zhu Xiu weren't by her side, Yan Lie would be at a disadvantage while protecting her.
Bai Wanwan bit her lip and patted Yan Lie's neck. "We won't enter the Tribe; let's go into the forest."
As long as they didn't go deep, they should be able to avoid the Beast Tide.
They had no other choice.
The Snow Leopard flicked his long tail and dashed toward the vast mountains without hesitation.
Bai Wanwan looked back; those figures were pursuing them relentlessly like maggots on a bone.
The snow-white leopard was like an arrow leaving the bow, quickly merging into the edge of the dark forest.
After rushing into the forest, Yan Lie gradually slowed down.
"Wan Wan, we can't go any deeper."
"Okay, then let's find a place to hide first."
The Snow Leopard looked around, his vigorous body leaping up to land steadily on a thick branch.
Just as Bai Wanwan was about to speak, Yan Lie suddenly went "Shh" and lowered his voice, "Wan Wan, they're here."
As he spoke, Bai Wanwan noticed the Male's entire body tense up.
Bai Wanwan was equally nervous; if they were found and had to go further into the forest, it would be extremely dangerous.
Through the gaps in the leaves, several golden beastly shadows were moving through the woods, their sharp claws pushing aside shrubs with a rustling sound.
As the distance closed, the "crack" of snapping dry branches became clearer and clearer.
Bai Wanwan held her breath, watching them move forward slowly, carefully searching every place they passed.
Yan Lie paced restlessly on the tree trunk and turned to Bai Wanwan. "Wan Wan, we have to keep running; they'll definitely find us if they search like this."
Bai Wanwan also knew it was hard to escape, so she immediately replied, "Okay."
As Bai Wanwan responded, Yan Lie leaped out again, like a white ribbon swiftly passing through the air.
At the same time, a Male's roar sounded behind them, "Over there..."
Countless leaves and branches brushed past Bai Wanwan.
She could only keep ducking low, burying her face in the fur on the back of Yan Lie's neck.
Suddenly, her eyes lit up. "Yan Lie, look over there!"
By the tree roots in the hollow, there was a pit covered by weeds; perhaps it could deceive them.
As long as they didn't notice it at a glance, the forest was so large that finding them again wouldn't be easy.
Yan Lie hesitated for only a second before turning toward that hiding spot.
It might not work, but they had no choice but to try.
Further ahead was no longer the forest's edge; he couldn't take Wan Wan further to risk it.
They quickly hid in the hollow, covering themselves with grass and leaves.
There were many plants in the forest, which could also mask some of their scent.
Just as they hid, the approaching Golden Lion suddenly stopped, raising a front paw to stop his companions. "Wait!"
Tu Shan bared his teeth impatiently. "Don't forget the mission! If you don't complete it, don't even think about becoming my Consort's Beast Husband!"
"Shut up!" The Golden Lion's ears twitched violently. "Listen..."
The subtle and eerie rustling sounds in the forest were increasing...
Jin Xi's face suddenly turned pale, and he shouted to the Males beside him, "It's a Beast Tide! Run!"
I've finally managed to add this chapter, whew~ Next up is a climax section of about 100,000 words, where all four Male leads will have their moments in the spotlight. Stay tuned, hehe~~
