48: What will happen in Chapter 48?
Roger strode over to her and pulled her out of the narrow depression.
Bai Wanwan deliberately opposed him, pulling her hand away while kicking him.
Roger simply leaned over and picked her up.
“What are you doing?”
Bai Wanwan slapped him across the face.
She used seventy to eighty percent of her strength, but the force on Roger's face was only equivalent to a tickle.
He raised his hand and grabbed her wrist. “If you don't want anything to happen to you or The Cubs, then behave for me.”
Bai Wanwan was not intimidated by his threat. Held in his arms, she continued to struggle incessantly; since her hands couldn't move, she used her feet to kick.
Roger let out a muffled groan. “You really are...”
His tone was a bit gritted, yet also somewhat helpless.
Since her kicking and hitting caused him no harm anyway, he simply stopped talking. Holding her with one arm and picking up the Basket with the other, he quickly slipped out of the Cave.
Outside the Cave, the cold wind was piercing. Bai Wanwan's anger hadn't subsided yet, but she shivered from the cold and had to stop kicking, curling herself into a ball.
Seeing her suddenly become well-behaved, Roger was so exasperated he laughed.
“Good, at least you know not to mistreat yourself.”
Bai Wanwan hated him, but now that she was in his hands, as long as she didn't die, she would eventually find an opportunity.
So there was no need for her to keep being stubborn.
“It's freezing. Are you taking me away like this because you want to freeze me into an ice cube?”
“I'll transform into my beast form. You get on; my Innate Ability can block some of the cold wind.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Roger transformed into a giant black wolf before her eyes.
His size was actually a circle larger than Xin Feng's beast form, the Silver Wolf.
“You're a wolf too?”
“Of course. Isn't my beast form very majestic and domineering?”
Bai Wanwan ignored him, grabbed the fur on his neck to climb up, and then hugged the Basket containing The Cubs.
Sure enough, the surrounding cold wind seemed to have dissipated a bit.
Bai Wanwan lay on his back and glanced behind her, hiding the worry in her eyes.
She wondered if Xin Feng had found The Cubs yet and when he would return.
Roger was very satisfied with her behavior. He immediately stood up and began to run across the Snowy Ground.
Taking advantage of his lack of attention, Bai Wanwan would occasionally take a small item from her system space and throw it out.
After throwing things all along the way, she looked outside.
Snowflakes were still fluttering...
At this rate, she was a bit worried that if Xin Feng didn't catch up in time, everything would be buried by the snow.
After Roger had carried her for a long time, Bai Wanwan pulled on the fur of his neck and shouted, “My stomach hurts, stop!”
Although Roger didn't have a Female, he knew that Females were very delicate.
Not to mention a snowy day like this; even hiding in a Cave during winter, it was easy for them to get sick and lose their lives.
Bai Wanwan's words made him instantly nervous. He didn't doubt their truth at all and found a sheltered spot to stop.
“Does it hurt a lot? Bear with it, I'll take you to a nearby Tribe to find a Shaman.”
Bai Wanwan lay there without moving. She wasn't actually in pain; she just wanted to stall for time.
“No need. It might just be that your running was too bumpy. I'll be fine if I rest for a bit.”
Only then did Roger realize he had indeed been running too fast, and he felt a bit guilty.
The black wolf's back was very wide and furry; it was actually quite comfortable to lie on.
Bai Wanwan even rolled over on it.
“Does it still hurt?” Roger didn't dare move a muscle.
“Yes.”
She answered without even blinking.
“If we just wait like this, will it get worse? No, I must take you to a Shaman.”
Bai Wanwan raised her hand again to pull his fur. “I said no need. Be quiet.”
She was feeling irritable now, having to deal with Roger while also worrying about The Cubs and Xin Feng.
Even if there was nothing physically wrong, she was truly feeling anxious and upset.
Roger knew the Little Female was angry and remained quiet for a long time.
Finally, he couldn't help but speak again, “Does it still hurt?”
Bai Wanwan said impatiently, “Yes.”
Roger hesitated for a moment, suddenly feeling that something was wrong.
“Bai Wanwan, you aren't lying to me, are you?”
“Why would I lie to you?”
“Are you trying to stall until Xin Feng comes to save you?” Roger realized immediately. He stopped crouching and stood straight up.
Bai Wanwan thought 'oh no' to herself, then heard Roger say, “Since it hurts so much, I'll take you to a Shaman.”
With that, he broke into a run and continued forward.
Seeing that he had seen through her, Bai Wanwan neither explained nor denied it.
Roger ran for a long while. Seeing that she was no longer making a fuss, he actually felt a bit unaccustomed to it.
“Does it still hurt?”
He turned his massive head, trying to look back at her.
Bai Wanwan didn't pay him any attention at all.
After running like this in the night for several hours, just as Bai Wanwan had almost finished throwing all the small items she could find...
She started making a fuss again. “I'm tired. I can't hold on. I want to rest.”
Roger hadn't planned to carry the Little Female all night anyway; her body certainly wouldn't be able to take it.
He had been looking for a suitable place to rest along the way.
“Bear with it a little longer. There's a Hot Spring Cave further ahead. I'll take you there; it's warm, and you'll sleep more comfortably.”
After running for another few dozen minutes, the black wolf stopped by a mountainside and transformed into his human form.
He held the drowsy Bai Wanwan in his arms and brushed the snow off the vines.
Bai Wanwan yawned and looked ahead, only to discover a massive cavern behind the vines.
Roger carried her inside, and the further they went, the warmer it became.
The comfort made her squint her eyes, feeling increasingly sleepy.
But the cry of a wild beast startled her awake.
“Wait for me here.”
Roger set her down by the Cliff and quickly rushed into the Cave, slaughtering all the beasts in the Hot Spring Pool.
Bai Wanwan woke up fully and hugged The Cubs in her arms.
It was pitch black ahead; she couldn't see anything and didn't even know what species of beasts were in the Cave.
She only knew that those sounds quickly vanished, followed by the sound of Roger's footsteps slowly approaching.
After confirming the surroundings were safe, Roger spoke, “Sleep here for the night. We'll continue the journey tomorrow morning.”
Bai Wanwan was more than willing; after a night's sleep, Xin Feng might catch up.
After taking out some Meat strips to feed the several hungry Cubs, she also struggled to chew on a piece of Dried meat herself.
“Bai Wanwan...”
Roger sat down beside her.
Bai Wanwan ignored him and continued chewing her Dried meat.
Roger turned his head. He was a Male with Talent; even in the pitch-black night, his vision was better than that of the Females.
Bai Wanwan couldn't see him, but he could vaguely see her face.
He even saw her curl her lip when she heard him call her name.
But she didn't say a word, clearly ignoring him on purpose.
He couldn't help but chuckle. “Hey, are you really a Sacred Female?”
Bai Wanwan swallowed the Dried meat in her mouth and snorted. “Sacred Female this, Sacred Female that—I have no idea what you're talking about.”
Anyway, the words 'Sacred Female' weren't written on her face; she just had to refuse to admit it no matter what.
Roger continued, “Hu Ya's Beast Husband, Lu Yi, originally intended to spread the news that you are a Sacred Female to the Wandering Beastmen. Do you know what happens to a Female who falls into the hands of Wandering Beastmen?”
