445: Chapter 445 Exerting Effort to Restrain

Wrapped in a beast skin blanket, Bai Wanwan only felt a splitting headache, as if countless needles were piercing her temples.

Gradually, her consciousness felt as if it had sunk into a cold swamp; she was groggy, and her perception of the outside world became blurred.

At times she felt unbearably hot and kicked away the beast skin, while at other times she was so cold her teeth chattered, causing her to curl into a ball.

Hua Han and Jiao Yin took turns guarding her side, both Males' handsome faces wrinkled with anxiety.

"Wan Wan, wake up, drink some water..." Hua Han's voice carried an unprecedented urgency. He carefully supported Bai Wanwan's burning, weak neck and brought the Stone Bowl filled with warm water to her cracked lips.

Bai Wanwan barely swallowed a few mouthfuls before falling back into a deep sleep, her brow furrowed as she let out pained murmurs.

Jiao Yin felt as if a knife were twisting in his heart as he looked at Bai Wanwan's flushed, feverish cheeks.

"I'll go ask the Tribe's Clan Witch to come and check on Wan Wan."

"Alright, I'll watch Wan Wan. Go and come back quickly."

Jiao Yin gave an affirmative grunt and strode toward the center of the temporary settlement.

There, the Lynx Clan Leader was frowning as he took stock of the Tribe's remaining supplies.

"Chief, Wan Wan has come down with a fever. I want to ask the Clan Witch to check on her." Jiao Yin's voice sounded somewhat raspy due to his urgency.

"A fever? Quick, let the Clan Witch go check on Female Bai Wanwan."

The Clan Witch soon followed Jiao Yin to their temporary residence.

After the Clan Witch stepped forward and performed a careful examination, her brow furrowed deeper and deeper: "It is a fever, and the situation is quite serious."

"Then please, Clan Witch, give the Female medicine quickly," Hua Han urged from the side.

The Clan Witch shook her head in distress. "The flood destroyed the storage cave, especially the area where the herbs were kept; it's all buried in mud. All that can be found now are a few scattered Hemostatic Herbs; everything else is gone!"

Jiao Yin's heart sank to the bottom.

Without medicine, Wan Wan would be in danger!

Hua Han spoke first, "I'll go find Silverleaf Herb. Jiao Yin, you take care of Wan Wan and The Cubs."

As he spoke, he was about to get up, but Jiao Yin stopped him. "I'll go. You're the one who usually takes care of The Cubs; you know better how to look after them."

Having said this, he gave Bai Wanwan a deep look. "Take good care of Wan Wan. I'll be back as soon as possible."

After Jiao Yin asked the Clan Witch about the area where Silverleaf Herb grew, he rushed out into the rain.

"Wait!" The Clan Witch tried to call him back, but Jiao Yin had already left quickly.

"Crazy! During this season, the water level in the Swamp Thicket rises sharply, and the mud pits are bottomless! Poisonous insects and snakes have all hidden in high places and are extremely aggressive. Not to mention the Water Beasts driven out by the flood. Entering the Swamp Thicket this season is a near-certain death!"

Hearing this, the color drained from Hua Han's handsome face. "Clan Witch, please inform the Chief. Ask him, for the sake of our help in guiding the Lynx Clan through two life-and-death crises, to send the beastman with the highest Talent in the Tribe to accompany Jiao Yin in finding the Silverleaf Herb."

The Clan Witch hesitated for a moment then nodded. "Fine, I will tell the Chief. But our Male can only show the way and warn him. I cannot watch the Males of our Tribe go to their deaths."

Hua Han grit his teeth. "Fine, I'll trouble you then."

After the Clan Witch left, Hua Han focused on caring for The Cubs and the seriously ill Bai Wanwan.

Time passed minute by minute in Hua Han's agony; he stayed by the Female's side almost constantly.

From time to time, he touched Bai Wanwan's forehead, and finding the temperature frighteningly high, he paced the room anxiously.

Then, gritting his teeth, he came before Bai Wanwan and whispered, "Wan Wan, a Clan Witch from my Tribe once said that when one has a fever, one must try to dissipate the heat. Jiao Yin isn't back yet, so I have no choice but to use this method. Don't blame me when you wake up."

After saying that, he pursed his lips, his hands trembling slightly as he reached for her belt.

Her clothes were peeled off layer by layer, and the Female's flawless body was presented before him like a work of art.

Though he knew he shouldn't have lustful thoughts at a time like this, his gaze was uncontrollably and firmly drawn to her.

With slightly trembling hands, he used cool water to wipe her body over and over. After wiping her twice, his fingers touched her soft, warm skin, and he clearly felt the temperature had dropped a bit.

A look of pleasant surprise appeared on his handsome face, and he continued to wipe her with cool water to lower her temperature, tirelessly doing it again and again.

He had done all he could, yet Wan Wan still didn't wake up.

After calling out several times to no avail, Hua Han turned and brought The Cubs to her side, letting the familiar, milky scent surround her, hoping to give her a bit of comfort.

Snowball seemed to know their mother was sick and was exceptionally quiet, curling up by Bai Wanwan's neck and gently rubbing her cheek with its wet, cool little nose. The other three Cubs also lost their usual liveliness, lying by the beast skin and letting out worried whimpers.

"Hot... Xin Feng..." In her stupor, Bai Wanwan unconsciously murmured and twisted in pain.

Seeing her open her mouth, Hua Han leaned in close with surprise.

"Zhu Xiu... Jin Yi..."

Bai Wanwan called out the names of her Beast Husbands, finally saying in a somewhat coquettish tone, "I feel so bad."

Hua Han's heart softened at her calls, and he immediately pulled the Female's body into his arms, gently comforting her.

"Don't be afraid, you'll get better soon."

Even though she was calling out other Males' names, Hua Han felt no displeasure, continuing to hold and coax her.

Sensing the embrace of the Male beside her, Bai Wanwan burrowed into his arms in her distress.

Seeing her fragile state, Hua Han felt as if his heart were being tightly gripped by an invisible hand, and he couldn't help but feel heartache.

"Wan Wan, hang in there... Jiao Yin will be back soon..." he whispered, more as if he were convincing himself.

The next morning, after Hua Han wiped her with a wet cloth once more, Bai Wanwan's thick eyelashes fluttered a few times, and she finally opened her eyes with difficulty.

Her vision remained blurred for a while before focusing, and what came into view were Hua Han's bloodshot eyes filled with surprise and his haggard face.

"Hua... Han?" Her voice was as raspy as sandpaper.

"Wan Wan! You're awake!" Hua Han's voice trembled with the relief of a survivor, and he was in front of her eyes in an instant, the ecstasy in his gaze nearly overflowing.

Bai Wanwan only felt weak and limp all over, her bones felt like they were falling apart, and her head was still groggy.

She tried to sit up, but as soon as her arms pushed up a little, a strong wave of dizziness hit her, and her body tumbled forward uncontrollably.

"Careful!" Hua Han was quick, extending a long arm and steadily pulling her into his embrace.

A clear, masculine scent instantly enveloped her.

Bai Wanwan's cheek was pressed against his solid, warm chest, and she could clearly hear the heart inside his chest cavity beating wildly at an irregular pace.

Hua Han's arms tightened, as if he wanted to rub her into his very bones and blood, but in the next second, he realized something and suddenly loosened his grip, his body stiffening for a moment.

Bai Wanwan could feel the warmth of his embrace and that sense of extreme restraint in his tension.

Just as she was about to speak, she suddenly realized that she wasn't wearing a single stitch of clothing.

"I... you..." Bai Wanwan turned to look at Hua Han in shock.
