50: Chapter 50 Fever

Chapter 5: Fever

"Run!"

Roger ordered, turning around and quickly leading the team away.

At this time, Roger needed to conserve his physical strength and could no longer spare too much Innate Ability to keep Bai Wanwan warm.

"Bai Wanwan, hang in there."

As Roger slid down, Bai Wanwan noticed the wind, mixed with snowflakes, suddenly grew stronger, cutting into her exposed skin like a knife.

Cursing inwardly, she quickly buried her head in the black wolf's fur.

Even so, her body gradually grew cold, and her hands and feet even began to stiffen.

Just as she was about to tell Roger she couldn't hold on much longer, the sound of fighting came from behind.

The Wandering Beasts had caught up to them!

The beasts' howls slowly turned into screams of pain, then stopped abruptly.

Roger, who had been sprinting, finally couldn't help himself and stopped.

His eyes turned bloodshot as he saw the Males who had faced life and death with him being caught and torn apart by the Wandering Beasts.

"Stop, fight back!"

The Wandering Beasts had caught up, and the battle was about to break out.

"Stay here by yourself!"

After Roger finished speaking, before Bai Wanwan could even react, she was thrown directly onto the Snowy Ground, making her backside ache from the impact.

Ignoring the pain, she quickly grabbed the basket to check on her Cubs.

The Cubs were wrapped in beast skin, already shivering from the cold.

Sensing their Mother's scent nearby, they poked their heads out from the beast skin in distress and touched her fingers.

"Wuwu..."

Bai Wanwan reached out to stroke them, feeling distracted and upset as she watched the chaotic melee ahead.

Although being in Roger's hands wasn't exactly a good thing, compared to the Wandering Beasts, she still preferred that he win.

All the Males used their Innate Ability; flames, the sound of wind, and lightning all erupted on the Snowy Ground.

Bai Wanwan couldn't see what was happening in the middle of the chaotic battle at all.

Suddenly, something splashed onto her face.

It was wet...

She instinctively reached up to touch it; it was sticky.

She immediately realized the stains on her hand were blood.

She couldn't worry about the cold; she was too close to the battle, and if she wasn't careful, she'd be caught in the crossfire.

She immediately picked up the basket and ran quickly away from the fray.

Aow...

Roar...

The battle grew more intense, and the beasts' roars made the entire Mountains and Forests shake.

"Captain, you go first."

"No, if I leave, you won't be able to hold on."

Roger's eyes were bloodshot from the killing; his Caravan had nearly thirty Males, but now less than twenty remained...

"Go!"

Yin Li grabbed him and pulled him out of the center of the fight; at the same time, two more companions fell.

"Captain, we must go! Staying here only means death. If everyone scatters and flees, there might still be a chance."

Yin Li's words snapped Roger back to his senses.

"Right! If we stay, we'll all die. Yin Li, tell them all to scatter and escape."

Yin Li nodded. "Captain, you take the Little Female and leave first. We will scatter and escape after."

Roger knew there was no time to waste and immediately turned to chase after the Little Female who had run off.

Catching up to her, he lowered his head and picked her up in his mouth.

Bai Wanwan was scared to death; in the time it took to turn her head, she saw a bloody mouth biting toward her.

"It's me... where do you think you're running to?"

Roger was furious; while he was leading the Caravan to resist the Wandering Beasts, she only thought of escaping.

Where could she escape to? She would either freeze to death or be eaten by other beasts.

Bai Wanwan was being jolted around so much she felt dizzy and didn't bother responding to him.

She only held tightly onto the basket containing The Cubs.

She had already lost one Tiger Cub; she had to protect the remaining ones!

Roger had a lot on his mind and forgot to use his Innate Ability to protect the Little Female; by the time he realized it...

The Little Female in his mouth had already grown somewhat stiff from the cold.

Bai Wanwan couldn't even manage a curse anymore; she could only glare at him with daggers in her eyes.

Roger found a beast's lair, killed and cleared out the beast, and then crawled inside while carrying Bai Wanwan.

After dropping off Bai Wanwan, who was nearly frozen into an icicle, he began pacing in circles inside the cave.

Bai Wanwan struggled to crawl up and sit properly.

"Can you stop pacing? It's making my head ache."

She felt lightheaded and her whole body was cold.

Needless to say, she must have caught a cold from being in the freezing wind for too long.

Hearing her words, Roger turned quickly and rushed over in a rage, grabbing her fragile neck.

"Let... let go of me!"

Bai Wanwan pulled at his hand with all her might, trying to make herself more comfortable.

Roger's grip tightened further. "It's you! If it weren't for you, not a single one of the Males I brought would have died."

Bai Wanwan tilted her head back, struggling to breathe; as she fought against the pain, tears welled up in her eyes.

What an idiot; did she beg him to come looking for her?

Infuriated to the extreme, Bai Wanwan kicked at him and then slapped his arm forcefully.

Then she lowered her head and bit down hard on his wrist.

Hiss...

The slight sting made Roger regain some of his sanity; realizing what he had done, he suddenly let go.

Cold air suddenly rushed into her windpipe, and Bai Wanwan let out an earth-shattering cough.

Roger was startled and was about to ask something when Bai Wanwan, having calmed down, immediately began berating him: "Roger, you idiot! Did I ask you to come find me? Did I beg you to take me away? Or did I kill the beastmen in your Caravan?"

"You heard I was a Sacred Female and developed evil intentions yourself. You didn't have enough ability but still waded into muddy waters, causing the death of your Caravan's beastmen. Listen to me clearly: the one who caused all this isn't me, it's you!"

Roger's face turned ashen, and he turned to punch the Cliff.

Bai Wanwan's head ached even more, and she couldn't help but mock him further, "Go ahead and punch it! Level this place and see how many beastmen in your Caravan survive."

Roger turned abruptly and glared at her fiercely.

"Bai Wanwan, if you provoke me again, I will kill you even if you are a Sacred Female!"

"Moron!"

After Bai Wanwan cursed, her head throbbed even more. Lacking the energy to argue with him, she reached out to pull the nearby basket into her arms and then passed out.

It took Roger a while to adjust to the sudden silence in the cave, and he gradually calmed down.

"Bai Wanwan... this whole thing started because of you. If it weren't for your status..."

At this point, he vaguely saw that Bai Wanwan seemed to be hanging her head.

He walked back to her side. "Are you listening?"

The Little Female didn't respond at all. Feeling irritable, Roger reached out and grabbed her arm.

With this pull, Bai Wanwan fell right over, and he instinctively raised his hand to keep her from falling.

Bai Wanwan landed in his arms, practically sprawled across him, pressed close together.

Roger's whole body stiffened. "Bai Wanwan..."

He had just called her name when he noticed her body temperature seemed abnormal.

He immediately reached out to touch her face, and the burning temperature made his hand tremble.

The anger on his face froze as he remembered that she was just a fragile Little Female, and the Snow Season was inherently dangerous for Females.

He had also forgotten to use his Innate Ability to protect her just now.

The anger in his heart vanished, replaced entirely by self-reproach.

He nervously pulled the Little Female into his arms. "Bai Wanwan, can you hear me?"
