Chapter 2: Mission Accomplished?

It was so delicious it nearly made her swallow her own tongue.

Her heart was also filled with immense satisfaction. If she could often eat what she wanted and upgrade the living conditions a bit, then living in the Beast World might not be so bad after all.

They roasted piece after piece, finishing the meat of two Unicorn Deer, yet Bai Wanwan still felt it wasn't enough.

Xin Feng noticed and, smiling, got up. He slowly went inside and brought out another piece of lean meat with a good mix of fat.

The stone knife became less clumsy in his hands, and the meat he sliced turned out thin and even.

Not only that, but he had also grasped the process and rhythm of the roasting.

Every time Bai Wanwan was about to finish a piece, he would promptly add a new one to her plate, while simultaneously replenishing the grill with more to cook.

After eating for a while, Bai Wanwan finally noticed how smoothly he was handling everything and couldn't help but give him a thumbs-up.

"You learn so fast!"

Xin Feng picked up a piece of meat that had just changed color and placed it on the stone plate in front of her. The uninjured half of his face looked as gentle and smooth as jade.

"If there's anything else you want to eat in the future, you can teach me, and I'll make it for you."

Bai Wanwan didn't notice the gentleness that had appeared in his eyes. She just kept devouring the food, nodding her head like a chicken pecking at rice.

Finally, she truly couldn't eat another bite and contentedly patted her protruding belly.

The amount she ate today probably exceeded the portion meant for Cubs.

A smile spread across Bai Wanwan's face as she stood up and spun in circles inside the stone cave.

Having been in the Beast World for over ten days, she had been feasting on delicious food in her dreams every night, drooling so much it soaked her pillow.

But every morning when she woke up and saw the bare, impoverished stone cave she called home, only heartache remained.

"If you like it, we can eat like this every day from now on."

"Eating like that every day would make me get internal heat. I need to find more ingredients so I can take you to try all sorts of delicious food in the future."

Bai Wanwan grew more and more excited as she spoke, her little mouth chattering non-stop.

Xin Feng didn't dampen her spirits, occasionally expressing curiosity with a question.

And so, the two of them chatted harmoniously like that.

Finally, once Bai Wanwan's stomach felt less bloated, drowsiness set in.

Yawning, she forced herself to stay awake to wash up. The icy water made her shiver with a start.

"No, tomorrow I have to heat the water in a stone basin before washing."

Xin Feng took these words to heart. From then on, he made sure to heat a basin of water for her to wash with every single night.

"So sleepy, I'm going to bed."

Bai Wanwan stumbled sleepily into the stone cave on the right, climbed onto the Stone Bed, wrapped herself in thick beast skin, and soon fell into a deep sleep.

What she didn't know was that the Chieftain's household was in an uproar.

"Was it you who let Bai Wanwan go?" The Chieftain paced back and forth in the stone cave, one hand on his hip, so angry his white beard seemed to flutter.

Xin Shan did not deny it. "Father Beast, Wan Wan doesn't like us, and besides, we are already Hu Ya's Beast Husbands."

"Nonsense! You haven't undergone the marking ceremony yet, there's clearly still a chance. Xin Shan, I always thought you could tell what's important. Bai Wanwan is a Sacred Female, a blessing from the Mountain God upon our Cat Clan Tribe. If you two brothers form a Pairing Ceremony with her, you would become the future Chieftain, and the Cubs you sire would have Talents surpassing our ancestors."

The Chieftain grew angrier the more he spoke. That Little Female Bai Wanwan wasn't very obedient. After this, he didn't know if there would be another chance.

He also didn't want to push her too hard and create an ugly scene.

"Father Beast, all of what you say is based on the premise that Wan Wan is willing. She is a Sacred Female; even in a Super Tribe, she would be revered. Our Cat Clan has treated her poorly for so many years. Now, we should prioritize her wishes. If she wants to leave, could we really keep her?"

The Chieftain's face changed dramatically. "How could she possibly leave? She was born here. Outside, the hundred thousand mountains are fraught with danger. Even the Cat Clan's most powerful warrior cannot travel them alone. Where could she go?"

"Accidents happen. Only if Wan Wan is willing to live here does the Cat Clan have a chance to grow stronger."

Xin Shan lowered his eyes. In the past, he hadn't paid much attention to Bai Wanwan.

But after the interactions of the past few days, she was indeed a special Little Female.

But it was destined that they could not become mates.

She wasn't sure how much longer she dozed for, but eventually, her stomach growled with hunger. Only then did she yawn and lazily get out of bed.

Seeing her come out, Xin Feng used a stone bowl to scoop some heated water from the stone basin.

"I just tested it; it's too hot. Putting your hand in will hurt."

"Thank you."

Then she noticed Xin Feng's legs seemed a bit more agile than they were yesterday.

She was utterly astonished. "You've recovered already?"

Seeing her open-mouthed, surprised expression, the corner of Xin Feng's mouth lifted slightly. "Beastmen have strong recovery abilities. My injuries weren't severe to begin with, and eating the Unicorn Deer meat yesterday also helped my wounds."

"That miraculous?"

For humans, a serious injury would take a hundred days to heal, and being free of aftereffects would be considered good enough.

Yet after just one day, he had mostly recovered. If you didn't look carefully, you couldn't even tell his gait was slightly unsteady.

"After you finish washing, just sit. I'll go roast some meat for you."

Xin Feng had never been anyone's Beast Husband before, but he had observed how others fulfilled that role.

Every Male would do his utmost to care for his Female.

His family only had him, one Male, so he had to do everything himself.

Seeing him really about to roast meat first thing in the morning, Bai Wanwan immediately reached out and grabbed him. "Don't bother. Last night's meal was a bit greasy. I don't like meat in the morning. I'll just eat a couple of fruits later."

Xin Feng frowned. Was his Little Female too easy to please? She either ate bugs or fruits.

Her appetite was less than a third of what other Females ate.

His gaze fell to her abdomen. "Just eating fruit isn't good for the Cubs."

"Then will you accompany me later to catch some fish and shrimp?"

Just as she said this, a commotion suddenly erupted next door.

Loud, arguing voices, though it was unclear what they were saying.

Bai Wanwan wasn't in a hurry. She turned and went into the cave to fetch a few fruits. Taking a bite, juice overflowed.

Only then did she slowly amble to the cave entrance, leaning against the stone wall to watch the spectacle.

Outside Hu Ya's stone cave stood the Chieftain and his family.

The Chieftain's face was dark and gloomy, as if someone had stolen his Cubs.

Seeing this scene, Bai Wanwan remembered the promise Xin Shan had made to her.

So... had he accomplished it?
