10: Encounter with orcs
Clarissa processed the Frost Giant Bear and then put it into her system backpack.
"This storage space of Lord God is really too convenient!" Clarissa couldn't help but exclaim every time she used it.
She had never felt the "limit" of the system backpack.
Her experiences these days had given her a lot of knowledge about the cultivation world, and she also learned that even a 1-cubic-meter storage treasure outside required more than 1,000 elemental crystal stones.
And she "came with" a storage space with no visible limit!
However, Clarissa understood the principle of "a person's wealth is their own ruin," so she generally only used this storage function when no one was around.
Of course, it wouldn't be a big deal if she were discovered; after all, people who possess storage treasures are either rich or noble, or they come from good families, or they are powerful.
Ordinary people truly wouldn't dare to provoke them.
However, Clarissa was just being cautious, as there are always some ignorant and greedy people.
"Hmm? Is that..." In the snowstorm, Clarissa saw figures flickering ahead.
"Is there anyone?" Clarissa thought they might be adventurers or mercenaries training or exploring in this snowy mountain range.
Clarissa didn't plan to go say hello; after all, in the wilderness, who knows what others might be thinking? It's better to avoid trouble, so Clarissa decided to look for another place.
Wait a moment... Clarissa felt that those figures were a bit off.
Clarissa thought for a moment and decided to get closer to take a look.
So Clarissa walked towards a cliff nearby.
"So it's Orcs!" Clarissa, standing on the cliff and looking down, got a clear view of the true appearance of those figures.
Below, three Orcs, holding thick bludgeons, sat there, gnawing on the meat of an unknown magical beast they seemed to have just killed, with fresh blood covering their mouths and chests.
Eating it raw!
"As expected, a bunch of barbaric Orcs!" Clarissa silently sneered, looking at their blood-drinking and raw-eating lifestyle.
Clarissa observed the three Orcs: light green skin, only their crotch covered by beast hide, over two meters tall, with bulging muscles.
With such attire and weapons, they shouldn't be high-ranking Orcs.
The hierarchy among Orcs is also very strict; the stronger the Orc, the better their equipment, though "better" is relative to the Orcs themselves.
Moreover, high-ranking Orcs also have some distinct appearances, making them easy to identify.
The three Orcs in front of her were ordinary Orcs.
A hateful glint flashed in Clarissa's eyes, and her hand went to the knight's sword at her waist.
Clang!
The snow beneath Clarissa's feet suddenly exploded, and she leaped down.
Clang! The knight's sword was unsheathed, and Clarissa spun in mid-air, striking down fiercely.
Earth Shattering Slash!
Pfft!
Clarissa sliced one Orc directly in half with a single sword strike.
The other two Orcs, under attack, reacted very quickly, grabbing their bludgeons beside them and standing up.
Whoosh!
Clarissa's figure flashed past one of the Orcs.
Whirlwind Sword!
Puff, puff, puff!
Nineteen deep, bone-visible wounds burst open on that Orc's body, blood gushing out, and it immediately fell to The Ground.
The remaining Orc, seeing its companion die, showed no fear; instead, it roared at Clarissa with bloodlust, raising the bludgeon in its hand and striking down fiercely.
Clarissa sidestepped, dodging the Orc's attack, and the bludgeon slammed onto The Ground with a thud.
At the same time, Clarissa's knight's sword aimed for the Orc's neck.
The Orc did not dodge; it swung the bludgeon diagonally with its backhand.
At the same time, its raised shoulder blocked the path of Clarissa's knight's sword aiming for its neck.
This was an attempt to trade injuries!
The Orcs' usual fighting style: barbaric!
They relied on their strong bodies, developed muscles, fast recovery, and large stature; when dealing with humans, they always used brute force to overcome skill, even trading injuries.
An ordinary human would absolutely not be able to withstand a single blow, but for them, who were accustomed to injuries, as long as it wasn't a fatal wound, it was no big deal for the Orcs.
Clarissa, of course, wouldn't let the Orc hit her.
She exerted force with her feet, and her entire body shot into the air, almost parallel to The Ground, her lower body slightly higher than her upper body, spinning.
The bludgeon swept underneath.
Clang!
Clarissa's knight's sword struck the Orc.
But at the last moment, the Orc still avoided a vital spot, and a spray of blood erupted from the Orc's trapezius muscle where Clarissa struck.
Clarissa retreated immediately after hitting her target.
Whoosh! The Orc's arm swing missed.
Shhh! Clarissa stomped on The Ground to stop herself, then pushed off with both feet.
Whirlwind Sword!
Whoosh!
Clarissa passed through the Orc.
Her speed was so fast that the Orc couldn't react at all.
Pfft!
Blood splattered from the Orc's body.
Thud! The Orc's body slammed heavily onto The Ground.
"Hoo~" Clarissa exhaled deeply, her warm breath forming a white plume that blew a meter away in the air.
Clarissa operated her Breathing Technique to recover her mostly depleted stamina.
Her heart pounded; it was her first time facing three Orcs at once.
And she succeeded!
"Orcs aren't that strong; if they're killed, they'll die too." Clarissa looked at the three corpses on The Ground, calming her emotions.
From her childhood encounter, besides fear of Orcs, she also had a lingering shadow.
The three Orcs brought her 176 source points, which was quite a lot of source points.
After all, these were ordinary Orcs.
This made Clarissa's eyes light up.
"How about... I start hunting Orcs!" Clarissa's eyes shone brightly.
On the border of the Grosster Empire, Orc squads were countless.
Countless invasions and raids.
Orcs also used this to obtain more food while satisfying their desire for slaughter and reducing their population.
That's right, it was about reducing their population.
Orcs reproduced extremely quickly, and their huge population made it difficult for them to sustain themselves, hence the slaughter, invasions, and raids.
It wasn't just to get food, but also to reduce their own population.
Clarissa decided that from now on, she would take "revenge" on the Orcs!
She could get revenge, earn source points, and contribute to her empire; who knows, she might even get a military rank or a noble title!
Perhaps she could even try to join the border defense army?
Clarissa pondered this question: joining the Grosster Empire's border defense army didn't have a high threshold, but it wasn't something just anyone could do.
Moreover, joining the border defense army meant accepting the leadership of the Grosster Empire.
Although Clarissa had limited experience, she knew that living under someone else's roof meant following their rules.
Rules = restrictions.
If she wanted to gain source points, she needed "freedom" to hunt more Orcs and magical beasts.
Fighting to support fighting, constantly growing stronger.
"It seems the border defense army has an external branch..." Clarissa recalled a piece of news she had heard in a nearby town before.
"I'll go ask." Clarissa decided to go to the nearest town to ask the border defense army personnel.
Clarissa was currently on the border of the Grosster Empire, near the Northern Barren Mountain Range in the north.
Although there were many Orcs here, there were also many magical beasts; after all, an entire mountain range, besides Orcs, was filled with magical beasts.
The danger was great, but similarly, it also meant abundant "resources"!
Whether it was magical beasts or natural treasures, there was much more than outside.
Not to mention, even if there were no natural treasures, a magical beast's entire body was valuable, and hunting magical beasts provided a good amount of materials.
Clarissa remembered the nearest town was a place called Snowwind Town.
It was named because the town was located at a wind gap, constantly subjected to strong snow winds...
