157: Temporary residence/the increasingly chaotic situation

“That, please, Immortal, come in first! Please wait a moment in the main hall, and we will go find the Town Chief!” The two guards quickly said. If it were anyone else, they would have to wait outside while the guards went to ask the Town Chief whether to meet them or not.

But this was an Immortal, so they immediately invited him in.

Lin Zifeng and the three merchants followed one guard, led by a servant, into the main hall.

Someone immediately brought tea and refreshments.

Lin Zifeng had just picked up his tea and taken a sip when a middle-aged man walked over.

“Immortal! I am the Town Chief of Peaceful Town. May I know why the Immortal is looking for me?” The Town Chief respectfully said to Lin Zifeng.

Although Peaceful Town was under the jurisdiction of the Golden Saber Sect, Lin Zifeng’s identity as an “Immortal” was clearly established.

No matter what, they were just “mortals,” and an Immortal killing them required no explanation. Even the Immortal Crane Sect would not become hostile with an “Immortal” for the sake of mortals.

“I heard there’s a demonic beast causing trouble here?” Lin Zifeng asked the Town Chief.

“That’s right! However... the Golden Saber Sect has already sent someone to deal with this matter!” The Town Chief said to Lin Zifeng.

“Hmm?” Lin Zifeng turned his head to look at the three merchants: “No, didn’t you say...”

“This... it is indeed true!” The three merchants exchanged glances, not wanting the Immortal to think they were deceiving him! So, the three of them quickly said.

“Town Chief! We have been looking for you to handle this matter for many days, but it has been ten days now! There’s no progress at all! Recently, we’ve even heard news that demonic beasts are still eating people!” The fat merchant said, almost in tears.

“I have already told the Immortal of the Golden Saber Sect about this matter! The Immortal of the Golden Saber Sect also promised to deal with it!” The Town Chief said, “However, the people from the Immortal Sect have not handled it yet... I don’t know why! I’ve mentioned it several times, but the Golden Saber Sect hasn’t given me a reply...”

“...” Lin Zifeng stroked his chin: “No reply at all?”

“Yes! No reply at all...” The Town Chief nodded, sighing, “Alas, for Immortal Sects and Immortals, we mortals can’t say or do anything...”

“Hmm... Then, let our Immortal Crane Sect handle this matter!” Lin Zifeng said to the Town Chief.

“Immortal Crane Sect?” The Town Chief looked at Lin Zifeng. Although he didn’t know where the Immortal Crane Sect came from, the Golden Saber Sect had not replied, and if this continued, their Peaceful Town would be ruined!

That demonic beast had also become increasingly rampant recently, and who knew when it would come into the town!

“Then I’ll trouble the Immortal!” The Town Chief nodded and said to Lin Zifeng.

“Immortal! Please stay at my place for now!” The fat merchant’s eyes darted around, and he was the first to speak.

“What’s so good about your place! Stay at mine!” The thinner merchant next to him immediately said.

For a moment, the three merchants began to contend over Lin Zifeng’s whereabouts.

“Alright, stop arguing! For now, I’ll stay at an inn here. I’ll trouble you all to arrange it!” Lin Zifeng said, “If there’s any news about the demonic beast, please tell me!”

“Hmm! Don’t worry!” The Town Chief nodded and said, “However... our Peaceful Town might... not be able to offer anything good to the Immortal!”

The Town Chief said with some difficulty. Immortals who were willing to help usually came for a reward; otherwise, how would Immortals have time to do things for mortals.

“We’ll talk about that later!” Lin Zifeng waved his hand.

Thus, Lin Zifeng temporarily settled down in Peaceful Town, waiting for the demonic beast to appear.

Gui Xu Realm.

Ever since Yi Xin acquired Cosmo Power, as his power grew, he had been living quite comfortably here.

The power to protect himself allowed him to travel the continent safely even during the “war between two nations.”

The war between the Kluoma Empire and the Osland Empire suddenly made “trade” and “passage” between the two nations difficult.

This was secondary.

During his travels across the continent, Yi Xin gathered various intelligence and discovered that “fissure” incidents were becoming more frequent.

Moreover, these fissures were clearly not “regular,” and their locations were not where normal fissures would appear!

Fissures were constantly appearing in places where normal fissures could not possibly appear.

Gradually, not only Yi Xin, but many people also noticed something was amiss.

These fissures were too bizarre!

And they exuded a sense of “forced intentionality.”

“This matter is definitely man-made!” Yi Xin noticed this, and his pupils slightly contracted.

One must know that fissures in the Gui Xu Realm had always been a very mysterious existence.

Now, fissures were actually being “man-made” controlled, which was a very terrifying thing!

Not to mention how powerful one could be by mastering “fissures,” the “fissures” themselves were a disaster!

And as a symbol of disaster, being controlled by humans, did that not mean... if the other party wished, the Gui Xu Realm would fall under the “fissure” disaster.

Many forces, both overt and covert, began to investigate this matter.

Especially the Church, as the righteous force of the God of Light, they had always been committed to saving the world and helping those in need. Their supplicants in various cities, relying on the Church’s temples, provided free treatment and relief to many suffering people.

The powerful Church Inquisitors and Redeemers protected the common people within the Gui Xu Realm.

All along, the Church, in every aspect, had fully conformed to their tenets and doctrines: justice, light, honesty, resilience, endurance, kindness, dedication...

The war between the Kluoma Empire and the Osland Empire was approaching a fever pitch, with both sides fighting fiercely and suffering extremely heavy casualties.

However, under the increasingly rampant and frequent “fissure” incidents recently, both sides gradually began to have thoughts of a truce.

If they continued to fight like this, regardless of the outcome of the war, these “fissures” alone would be enough to collapse them!

Of course, this also included the Church’s “peacemaking” efforts behind the scenes.

As the “ceiling” of “power” and “authority,” the Church’s say in this world was very significant.

Even though the Church was a completely neutral force.

“The Kluoma Empire and the Osland Empire... the war should be nearing its end!” Yi Xin felt that the fighting between the two sides had begun to change. He was currently in a small town on the border of the two nations.

This small town was relatively remote from the border front line, even for both nations.

The flames of war hadn’t really reached here.

As for why Yi Xin came here, that’s a long story.
