19: Settlement, it turns out to be a doomsday survival world

Lin Ze and Lin Zhi searched the entire villa.

They didn't find any monsters, but they did find quite a lot of supplies.

Canned beef, energy bars, compressed biscuits, mineral water, cola...

All these, combined with the supplies already in their backpacks, would be enough to last them a month.

Looking at the piled-up supplies, Lin Zhi's eyes practically lit up; when had she ever fought such a "rich" battle before!

"Keep them well-stored, and you decide what we eat every day!" Lin Ze said to Lin Zhi, "We might be able to stay here for a while."

Suddenly, a howling wind came from outside.

"Hmm?!" Lin Ze and Lin Zhi hurriedly ran to the front door to take a look.

A strong wind had picked up outside... and slowly, light snow began to mix into the wind... and it was intensifying.

Lin Ze's expression changed: "A blizzard!?"

"Ah!?" Lin Zhi exclaimed softly.

"Quick! Find some warm things! And block all the vents!" Lin Ze said to Lin Zhi, and the two of them immediately sprang into action.

The low temperatures brought by a blizzard are truly terrifying.

Extreme weather: blizzard plus ultra-low temperatures.

It's likely that some people without warmth... might just freeze to death.

However, Lin Ze wouldn't care about others, nor could he; as long as he could take care of himself, that was enough.

Before long, Lin Ze and Lin Zhi had found quite a few winter quilts, as well as some warm clothing like down jackets.

"It's a good thing this villa is big enough and the supplies are complete," Lin Ze remarked, glad they had chosen to come here.

It had to be said that many things were well-stocked; although people had been to this villa before, they had only used the environment and some of the furniture.

"It looks like we shouldn't have any problems getting through this wave of extreme weather!" Lin Ze nodded with satisfaction.

They had enough food for a month, and the longest recorded extreme weather event had only lasted a week.

Even if it broke the record, it would last at most half a month, and their food was more than enough.

As for warmth, although they might not be able to light a fire, the quilts and clothing were barely enough.

Besides, there was a kiln inside... though he didn't know if the original owner of the villa used it for heating or for roasting sweet potatoes.

In short, if they had firewood, they could still keep warm, but if they lit a fire, the smoke would go outside... making them a bit too visible.

Especially since it would easily attract other people; some monsters might not care about smoke.

But humans are familiar with it! Wouldn't that clearly signal that someone was here!

"Yeah!" Lin Zhi nodded, feeling lucky in her heart that she had "landed" in Lin Ze's hands; otherwise, if she were still being held hostage by those two things... she might have died at any moment, and even if she hadn't, she definitely wouldn't have survived this extreme weather.

"Alright, let's do some more preparation work; this place will serve as our residence for the foreseeable future," Lin Ze said to Lin Zhi. Since they had decided to make this their home base, they naturally had to "build it up."

...

This Doomsday World of Lin Ze's, while called a Doomsday World, was different from other doomsdays.

Having watched up to this point, Tang Ziheng finally understood that this Doomsday World was more like a doomsday survival world.

Rather than the kind of Doomsday World filled with zombies and monsters where one grinds levels and struggles amidst mountains of corpses and seas of blood.

Having understood this, Tang Ziheng changed his perspective on how he viewed this world.

As for whether there might be another kind of Doomsday World, Tang Ziheng didn't know if he would be able to randomly encounter one.

...

Lin Ze and Lin Zhi had settled down, and then, they began to search the entire villa more meticulously.

They discovered a utility room and also found a basement.

There was nothing in the basement; it looked like a place for storage, but there was nothing inside.

Then, in the utility room, there were quite a few tools and many wooden planks.

Lin Ze and Lin Zhi used these wooden planks to seal off some areas.

For example, some inconspicuous windows; they checked everything from the first floor to the third floor.

Whatever needed to be sealed, they sealed.

That way, even if it were broken into, they would hear the noise and know immediately.

After finishing their work, Lin Zhi collapsed onto the sofa in the living room: "Whew~ I'm exhausted!" Although she was very tired, Lin Zhi felt very satisfied, as if she and Lin Ze had fixed up their own "little" home; it was a sense of accomplishment.

"Do you want to take a shower?" Lin Ze asked.

"Eh?! Can we take a shower?!" Lin Zhi jumped up in surprise and delight.

A shower!? In the doomsday, that was truly a luxury; even if people had abundant supplies, they would at most rinse off or wipe their bodies down.

"Of course, I found gas and a gas stove, both of which can be used. We can boil hot water and then take a shower; at the very least, rinsing yourself clean won't be a problem!" Lin Ze said to Lin Zhi, "There is a well outside... it seems we can draw water from it... although there is a blizzard now, the well has a shed... it should be fine. Braving the blizzard to draw a few buckets of water... should be fine!"

"Then... what are we waiting for?!" Lin Zhi jumped happily.

Because of the surrounding wall, and the shed, the impact of the blizzard wasn't that significant.

Moreover, the wind force of the current blizzard hadn't reached level seven or eight.

In this weather, the more important factors were the low temperatures and the difficulty of going out, especially for scavenging supplies.

Lin Ze and Lin Zhi began to take action...

Before long, they were taking a warm shower.

Rinsing off, wiping their bodies.

However, they hadn't found many clean towels, just one.

"Let's use it together! You don't mind, right?" Lin Zhi said to Lin Ze.

"Of course." Lin Ze shook his head slightly; if the girl didn't mind, why would he? He didn't have mysophobia, or rather, those who had mysophobia in the doomsday had all died.

How many survivors had mysophobia? Even if you had it, you'd be forced to get over it.

After Lin Zhi finished washing, it was Lin Ze's turn.

Finally, both of them washed up well and walked out feeling refreshed.

The refreshing of daily supplies wasn't limited to food, but food was the most important, and there was quite a lot of it.

In this villa, there were also body wash, shampoo, and the like.

The two of them came out all scrubbed clean and then began to eat.

Although it was all "cold food," Lin Zhi was incredibly happy to be eating.

"This is so comfortable! We can even use the stove to cook! It's just that there are no vegetables..." Lin Zhi said after taking a bite of bread.

"Indeed..." Lin Ze nodded: "We still need to go out constantly to search for supplies!"

"Hmm... we don't need to do that for a while, right? Let's just live well for a bit..." Lin Zhi preferred to play it safe; now that food was sufficient and various supplies were not lacking, there was no need to go out, right?

"You can stay here, don't worry, I won't run away. Going out to search for things is necessary; if you just sit and eat, your supplies will run out! You can't wait until everything is completely gone before going out." Lin Ze shook his head. Besides, he needed source points! He definitely had to go out to kill monsters.

He couldn't explain this to Lin Zhi, so he just had to find an excuse.

"Hmm... alright, I'll go out with you! Even if I can't help much, I can at least help you carry some things." Lin Zhi didn't want to be a parasite; being a tag-along and a mobile backpack wasn't bad either.

"No, no, you stay and watch the house! Otherwise, if someone comes while we're out, all our stuff will be gone, and that would be a problem!" Lin Ze rejected Lin Zhi: "Besides, there's a blizzard outside... I wouldn't be able to take care of you."

"Hmm... alright..." Lin Zhi thought for a moment and nodded.

"I'll leave the gun with you then, for self-defense." Lin Ze said to Lin Zhi; during this time, he had come to trust Lin Zhi a little.

"Let's not! It's better if you keep it." Lin Zhi's expression changed slightly; Lin Ze dared to give it, but she didn't dare take it, and she was also afraid that it might be a test from Lin Ze.

"Don't worry! This is for you to defend yourself. After all, if you're guarding the house and some ill-intentioned people come, since the only entrance right now is the front door, if you hold the gun and guard it well, three or five people simply won't be able to get in." Lin Ze said to Lin Zhi. They had reinforced everything everywhere, so normal people would really only be able to come in through the front door, unless it was a monster that could tear apart or smash through iron, glass, and the nailed-on wooden planks.

How could a normal human do that! Of course, if it were an evolved human... that would be another story.

But how many evolved humans could there be... most evolved humans couldn't withstand a handgun either.

Unless they had used more than ten evolution crystals, surpassing the limits of humanity by quite a bit.

"I understand!" Lin Zhi nodded.

"Alright, then it's up to you!" Lin Ze didn't hesitate and took out the handgun, handing it to Lin Zhi.

"Aren't you afraid that I..." Lin Zhi took it and then looked at Lin Ze and said.

"You wouldn't, and you wouldn't dare!" Lin Ze said, looking straight into Lin Zhi's eyes.

For one, he trusted Lin Zhi; smart people wouldn't do that.

For another, he had enough confidence; with his powerful reaction abilities and robust physical fitness, he could react even if Lin Zhi fired the gun.

What's more, he had the System as a backup; if things went wrong, he could just swap in another gun and turn it on her.

Besides, if Lin Zhi took the gun, it was just one more gun; killing him wouldn't do her any good, and would instead make her own situation worse.

The two of them were living together for mutual support; Lin Zhi had personally experienced how good their current situation was, with Lin Ze as the backbone and the main force.

Of course, she wouldn't do such a stupid thing.

Lin Zhi smiled, took the handgun, and Lin Ze taught her how to use it.

"Alright, you stay here, I'm going out for a trip!" Lin Ze said to Lin Zhi.

"Ah?! Are we starting already?!" Lin Zhi had been looking down, studying the handgun, but when she heard Lin Ze say this, she suddenly looked up, staring at him with a look of surprise.

She had thought that going out was something for a few days later; they had just settled down, and he was already going out to scavenge for supplies?
