13: A clean kill
Lin Ze strode forward, and the first zombie dog pounced at him.
Lin Ze ducked, his body twisting to the side, and the machete in his hand sliced through precisely and swiftly.
Pfft!
The zombie dog was decapitated in mid-air.
Lin Ze's steps didn't falter; he continued to advance.
From Lin Zhi's perspective behind him, it was as if Lin Ze and the zombie dog had just brushed past each other, and the zombie dog was instantly decapitated.
Of the remaining two zombie dogs, one crouched low to bite his calf, while the other leaped up to bite his neck.
Lin Ze reacted in an instant, pushing off with his foot, his body soaring into the air, his core tightening as he twisted his torso mid-air, delivering a fierce whip kick to the face of the airborne zombie dog, while simultaneously, the machete in his hand, aided by the twisting momentum, swept towards the head of the zombie dog below.
Pfft!
The zombie dog was beheaded by Lin Ze's blade, whether it was because the zombie dog's body was more fragile or because Lin Ze's strength was too great.
As for the zombie dog struck in the head by Lin Ze's aerial whip kick, half of its face was disfigured.
Lin Ze landed and, without a moment's pause, rushed towards the zombie dog that had fallen to the ground.
As the zombie dog struggled to get up, he decapitated it with a single strike.
Immediately after, Lin Ze sprinted towards Lin Zhi.
Lin Zhi stood rooted to the spot, utterly dumbfounded.
So... zombie dogs are that easy to kill?
So, it just takes this, this, and then this, and it's dealt with! Lin Zhi suddenly understood!
Brain: Got it!
Hands and Feet: Get lost!
Lin Zhi saw Lin Ze running towards her, a sweet smile on her face, just as she was about to praise Lin Ze.
"What the hell are you smiling for! Move it! Do you want to die?!" Lin Ze reached out and grabbed Lin Zhi by the chest... no, her collar, and yanked her backward.
The five zombies behind them had already started to charge.
The zombie running at the front was less than three meters from where Lin Zhi had been standing.
Lin Zhi, nearly falling from Lin Ze's tug, turned her head and her expression changed when she saw the hideous zombie.
She hadn't even noticed that there were zombies coming, thinking it was only zombie dogs...
And being immersed in Lin Ze's "splendor," she had paid even less attention to the commotion behind her.
Although she was nearly pulled to the ground, Lin Zhi felt no anger; instead, she was filled with gratitude for Lin Ze, and she also felt that Lin Ze cared about her, at least... he wouldn't just watch her die.
The zombies that charged at Lin Ze came one after another, basically in a continuous stream.
Although zombies are monsters, they are at least humanoid. Apologies, Lin Ze is more accustomed and experienced in dealing with humans than with other types of monsters.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
With effortless grace, Lin Ze quickly and cleanly dispatched all the zombies that came at him like gourds saving their grandpa.
"So... so amazing!" Lin Zhi watched in awe as he swept through them, feeling like he hadn't even stopped moving, running past five zombies, and all five were decapitated.
Lin Ze glanced at his source points, which had increased by over three hundred.
He casually picked up a piece of discarded cloth from the roadside and wiped the black blood from his machete.
"Let's go," Lin Ze told Lin Zhi.
"Eh! Okay, okay, okay!" Lin Zhi snapped out of it and quickly followed Lin Ze, staying a step behind him, her eyes shining with an indescribable meaning as she looked at him.
Lin Ze, meanwhile, was observing the surroundings.
There seemed to be many small shops around, suggesting it was some kind of commercial street, and he had seen several small supermarkets.
Further ahead, there was also a very large shopping mall.
However, Lin Ze had no intention of going to such a large mall.
"We'll search the surrounding buildings to see if we can find any supplies," Lin Ze told Lin Zhi.
"Mmm-hmm! I have no objections! I'll listen to you," Lin Zhi said, believing whatever Lin Ze said was right and listening to everything he said!
The two of them searched half a street.
They found an outdoor backpack that was only a bit dusty on the outside and showed no significant wear, which Lin Zhi had dug out from a corner.
"This is a good item; we can use it to store food..." Lin Ze praised Lin Zhi, "Well done! You carry this backpack..."
"I can?!" Lin Zhi's eyes lit up when she heard Lin Ze tell her to carry the backpack.
Being asked to do manual labor, specifically carrying a backpack, Lin Zhi didn't think of it as "bullying a girl" or "exploiting someone"; her first reaction was that Lin Ze trusted her!
She couldn't help in combat, but helping Lin Ze with "logistics" and entrusting her with the supplies in the backpack—this was definitely trust!
What's most important in the apocalypse? Supplies!
Without supplies, you can't even fill your stomach!
And correspondingly, there's combat power!
Without combat power, you can't find or protect supplies.
"Yes!" Lin Ze nodded, not caring about this; even if Lin Zhi "betrayed" him, with the system as his backing, Lin Ze considered it worthwhile to understand a person through a small amount of supplies.
Lin Ze was also testing Lin Zhi, to see if she genuinely wanted to follow him; as long as she did her part diligently, he naturally wouldn't treat her poorly.
In the apocalypse, being a lone wolf has its pros and cons; if possible, Lin Ze was quite willing to form a small team.
Not too many people, three to five would be enough.
Highly mobile and strong, and without fixed points like survivor bases, which further reduces danger.
More importantly, humans are social animals, and Lin Ze felt that if one continued to live alone in the apocalypse, their psychology would definitely become twisted.
What tortures people the most is not pain, but loneliness!
Lin Ze and Lin Zhi found many supplies: chocolate bars, mineral water, compressed biscuits, and some beef patties, all excellent high-energy, small-volume items.
They were all put into the backpack, which Lin Zhi carried.
Lin Zhi was not a pampered person; moreover, she had, after all, struggled for a month in the apocalypse, and her physical fitness was not bad.
She carried the bag, following behind Lin Ze.
Looking at the supplies they had found, if they ate sparingly, it would be enough for three to five days!
"Hmm?!" Lin Ze suddenly frowned, pressing Lin Zhi's head down as he crouched by the window of the small house, peering outside.
"What's wrong?" Lin Zhi peeked out from below, sticking her head out, and quietly asked Lin Ze.
"There are people... This area might be controlled by some organization... No wonder there are so few monsters here; it must have been cleared," Lin Ze whispered, explaining to Lin Zhi.
Of course, the so-called "claiming territory" doesn't mean they are powerful enough to control the entire area; they are also just barely surviving, but the powerful monsters either hunt other powerful creatures.
The weaker ones are not worth their attention, let alone humans.
So for humans, the biggest enemies, besides extreme weather, are various weak monsters, such as zombies and zombie dogs.
There's also a type of demon-eyed spider that likes to nest and spin webs in various hidden buildings or other places.
Once you enter, it will stealthily seal off your path with silk, trapping you like a turtle in a jar!
Once you encounter a demon-eyed spider, it's basically either you die or it dies; if you're lucky enough to have fire or something similar, burn down the web and escape while it pursues you... only then can you survive.
Although demon-eyed spiders will pursue, they won't pursue very far, but their speed is very fast, less than eight seconds for a hundred meters, and their acceleration is much faster than a human's.
If you just run in a straight line, it's definitely a dead end, and it can also spray silk and fire silk projectiles; once it hits you, it not only instantly binds you, but the impact can also break your sternum.
