815: Chapter 815 The Heartache of Black Marinated Eggs
Nick Fury received news that the mission had failed.
He learned that the Akatsuki Organization had intervened.
And the Avengers Squad, whom he had entrusted with great responsibility and taken such pride in, had been unilaterally crushed by just two individuals...
An entire Avengers Squad couldn't even handle two people!
They were completely dominated!
How could Nick Fury possibly accept this?
Polaris... Mutant...
Damn it!
That kind of ability is practically cheating!
Nick Fury's expression was terrifyingly grim.
By the time Captain America and Natasha returned to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters,
they met with Nick Fury and saw his frighteningly dark face.
"You're back... I don't blame you for this." Nick Fury suppressed his anger. He knew that Polaris's abilities were indeed a perfect counter to them.
"This is just one setback. We need to think about how to become stronger and how to handle it if we encounter something like this again!" Nick Fury said to everyone. "Develop new weapons! Weapons that aren't affected by magnetic fields or metal manipulation!"
"The world is a big place. This failure is also a good thing; it teaches us to avoid arrogance and rashness."
Nick Fury said all the right things, making everyone feel quite a bit better.
"Don't worry, Director! We'll do better next time!"
Reed Richards, who was both a Mr. Fantastic and a super-scientist, spoke up: "Leave the research to me! We will definitely avenge the Human Torch next time!"
"Mm, I trust you." Nick Fury naturally knew how incredible Reed Richards' scientific and technical abilities were. He nodded. "Whatever you need, submit a report and I'll approve it. All of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s resources are at your disposal!"
"Thank you, Director! I'll get it done as quickly as possible!" Reed Richards said with a look of joy.
"Alright, everyone go and get some rest." Nick Fury nodded. After the group dispersed, Natasha, Hawkeye, and Captain America stayed behind of their own accord.
"Tell me, what do you think about the Akatsuki Organization's involvement this time?" Nick Fury asked them.
"Director Fury, what exactly is the deal with the Akatsuki Organization?" To this day, Captain America still didn't have very deep intelligence on the Akatsuki Organization; he had only heard the name in passing.
"You aren't keeping this information from us, are you?"
"You must be joking, Captain," Natasha chimed in from the side.
Nick Fury nodded. "It's not that I'm withholding information from you, but rather that our intelligence on the Akatsuki Organization is limited to just this much. We know very little about them!"
"To be precise, what can be confirmed currently is that Tony Stark, the Sect Head of Stark Energy... ever since that last incident and the 'betrayal' of the former CEO, Tony resolved the issues with his uncle and transformed Stark Industries into Stark Energy. He has taken complete control of it, making it entirely his private property."
"And then there's the Mutant Polaris Lorna... and Spider-Man is also suspected to be Peter Parker. There's no evidence, but we don't need evidence—we only need a connection or a suspicion."
"As for the others... we don't know. We don't even know if there are more members."
"We don't know their level of strength. We know nothing at all!"
"Since the Akatsuki Organization's last deployment, you've seen the video footage."
"We have no further intelligence on them!"
"We don't know where their base is, nor how many people they have."
"Furthermore, their network capabilities are extremely terrifying... Tony has the Jarvis AI; perhaps they benefit from that AI's help," Nick Fury told Captain America.
"..." Captain America fell silent for a moment and took a deep breath. Such a mysterious organization...
"However, the Akatsuki Organization currently seems to have a potential for cooperation. After all, we are relatively familiar with Tony, and so far, they haven't done anything anti-human," Nick Fury said to Captain America, maintaining an air of "don't worry, everything is under my control."
"Evil will never triumph over justice! What we need to do now is accumulate strength and keep getting stronger. Only then will humanity have a future and hope!" Nick Fury said to Captain America.
"Yes, I understand," Captain America nodded seriously.
"Alright, you may go. Natasha, I'll have to trouble you to continue gathering intelligence. You will also be in full charge of Reed Richards' research progress."
"I understand," Natasha nodded in agreement.
Nick Fury looked at the director's office, which was once again empty except for himself.
He sat with his hands clasped in front of him, still maintaining that "mysterious and unfathomable" look. In reality, if one looked closely at his dark face, he had long since turned red with rage.
The Avengers Squad he was so proud of had finally been established after much effort, with massive resources poured into it.
Such a super-powered team had been taken down by just two people!
Just two people!
The entire team was wiped out! They were flattened with almost no ability to fight back!
Doesn't this just show that he, Nick Fury, has no ability at all?
Doesn't it show that he, Nick Fury, wasted all those investments for nothing?
Most crucially, as S.H.I.E.L.D.'s strongest spear, the Avengers Squad carried many of Nick Fury's visions.
But now, those visions had met an early demise, shattered right at the start.
Although it was partly because Polaris was a Mutant who completely countered them...
To be honest, Polaris's ability was just too much of a cheat; it was far too similar to Magneto's from the Brotherhood of Mutants!
But Magneto was much more terrifying than this Polaris! If Professor X hadn't been there to stop him, the world would have long since fallen into chaos; it wouldn't be as peaceful as it appears on the surface.
If it were just Tony as Iron Man... Nick Fury felt that with the Avengers Squad's capabilities, while not a certainty, the probability of taking him down was quite high.
The problem lay with Polaris... Nick Fury's brow was tightly furrowed.
This kind of ability was just too absurd when faced with modern technology!
Especially this power to control magnetic fields and metal—it was simply unfair!
But as for how to deal with Polaris... Nick Fury racked his brain but truly couldn't think of any solution.
Should he seek help from Sentinel Services? After all, Sentinel Services were professionals when it came to dealing with Mutants, and they had extremely rich experience.
Lorna had been chased all over the place by them before, after all.
If Clarissa hadn't intervened, Polaris would have been captured by Sentinel Services long ago.
Wait... Nick Fury suddenly realized something.
Clarissa!
Nick Fury's head ached even more.
This was an existence even more difficult to handle than the rest of the Akatsuki Organization.
He had only been thinking about the Akatsuki Organization, Tony, and Polaris.
He had almost forgotten the ultimate boss, the founder of the Akatsuki Organization—Clarissa.
At this moment, Nick Fury's world collapsed.
Bitterness, absolute bitterness!
