67: The war is imminent
From that day on, everything began to change.
Afterward, the Ancient Demon God appeared; it was incredibly powerful, overturning the world and bringing endless destruction and slaughter.
Some Demon Kings, admiring its power, willingly followed it.
Step by step, it developed, controlling countless demons, and many Demon Kings were "forced" to join, becoming part of the Demon King Army.
After all, they had no choice; if they didn't join, they would die.
This also led to many Demon Kings actually slacking off, doing as little as possible whenever they could.
Otherwise, humanity's situation would be even more difficult.
This was thanks to the existence of these "traitors."
"Tch! I am absolutely loyal to the Ancient Demon God! It seems you two have ulterior motives! I'll remember this! When the time comes, we'll see your performance, otherwise, I'll report you to the Ancient Demon God!" Jerome said.
"Is that a threat?" Slit-Eyed Demon King said.
"How could it be! Do you all really have ulterior motives?" Jerome said with a slight smile; he already didn't get along well with these two in front of him and rarely interacted with them on a daily basis.
But he didn't know why, the Ancient Demon God suddenly told them to speed up, which led to the current attack on the Hossman Empire.
The problem was, why did he have to go with these two guys!
To be safe, three Demon Kings were supposed to be dispatched, but as a result, the other Demon Kings had all "run off."
Only the three of them could go.
After all, even if they had ulterior motives, they wouldn't dare to openly defy the Ancient Demon God.
They had all witnessed the Ancient Demon God's power; there were quite a few rebellious Demon Kings, as they were all unruly types, but unfortunately, they all died.
"Attack! Attack!"
The demons arrived and immediately launched an attack without any hesitation.
The three Demon Kings sat far in the back, letting the demons fight for a while first.
As the demons approached, countless spells flew out from the city.
From mages, magic cannons, magic towers... and so on, they started with several rounds of "area clearing."
Under successive bombardments, countless demons died halfway, and only a handful managed to reach the city walls, only to be picked off by various divine archers.
Warriors and knights didn't even need to be deployed.
On the surface, it seemed unlikely for the demons to break in.
However, magic cannons also needed to cool down; continuous attacks, not to mention the consumption, would cause the magic cannon barrels to give out.
The same was true for the mages' magic power.
Moreover, demons also had magic.
Both sides exchanged magic blasts!
However, humans had the high ground, as well as the advantage of range and the assistance of machinery, so they naturally held the upper hand.
But this wasn't the main course; it was just "pre-dinner dessert." In the end, it would still come down to direct combat!
In just over ten minutes, the number of demon casualties exceeded one hundred thousand, and this number was still rising.
But whether it was the Demon Kings, the Demon King Species, or the demons themselves, they seemed to not care about the casualties at all.
Watching the magic attacks dwindle.
The Demon Kings finally made a new move: "Go!"
Dozens of Demon King Species began to act!
One of them, an octopus-like Demon King Species over ten meters tall, gathered purple light in its enormous eyes.
"Biu!"
A purple light wave shot towards the city wall.
Boom!!!
The terrifying attack directly collapsed a section of the city wall.
"Roar!" A huge bull-headed, human-bodied Demon King Species charged, as did a pig-headed, human-bodied Demon King Species.
A giant winged dragon Demon King Species flew over, leading countless flying demons in an attack.
"Kill!" Countless warriors roared and charged.
Adventurers, brave ones, and even heroes were not idle.
Both sides engaged in a great battle.
However, there were too many demons! And too many Demon King Species!
The numbers difference was too great; the Hossman Empire was instantly suppressed.
Fortunately, in less than half an hour, Wayne Hossman arrived with countless reinforcements.
"Kill!"
With the addition of reinforcements, several hero-level powerhouses appeared, not to mention the dozens of brave ones, countless adventurers, and a massive army.
In an instant, the demons fell into a bitter struggle.
Watching the hero-level powerhouses fight against several Demon King Species without falling behind, some even began to slay the Demon King Species.
"Who's going?" Jerome said.
Hero-level individuals definitely needed Demon Kings to deal with them, unless dozens of Demon King Species were all used to overwhelm one hero-level individual.
But that wasn't realistic.
Here, there's an interesting hierarchy of power levels to discuss:
Demon < Demon King Species < Demon King
Adventurer < Brave One < Hero
Then Brave One < Demon King Species < Hero < Demon King.
Generally speaking, a Brave One fighting a Demon King Species alone might not be an opponent, so usually, when Brave Ones kill Demon King Species, they bring their own small team with support and control.
Of course, these refer to most situations; whether it's demons or humans, there will always be individual exceptions.
On the Hossman Empire's side, there were six hero-level individuals and over thirty brave ones.
To deal with the Demon King Species, this lineup was completely fine; it was only a matter of time before they wiped out these dozens of Demon King Species.
However, the destruction caused by the Demon King Species was still quite significant, with their massive size and terrifying magic attacks.
The city wall here was basically half-destroyed; the demons couldn't be allowed to cross it!
"What do you mean 'who's going,' we all go! What? Is someone else trying to slack off?" The Muscle-bound Demon King stood up, glanced at Jerome, and then charged out first.
"Hehe~" Slit-Eyed Demon King chuckled softly, then followed behind.
"..." Jerome's face darkened. He watched the backs of the other two Demon Kings for a moment, then snorted coldly and followed them.
With the addition of the three Demon Kings, the hero-level powerhouses, now in 2-on-1 matchups, were all tied down.
Two hero-level individuals might not necessarily be able to defeat a Demon King-level individual. Even if these hero-level powerhouses were incredibly strong and gifted, these three Demon Kings were also not ordinary; they were not common Demon Kings.
There was also a pecking order among Demon Kings: those who were ordinary Demon Kings, or those Demon King Species who evolved and upgraded into Demon Kings, were called Demon King-level.
Only those "inherent" Demon Kings with "titles" like them could be truly called Demon Kings.
When Clarissa saw Jerome move, the corner of her mouth curved slightly. She slowly stood up, stretched, and then spread her dragon wings behind her.
She then plummeted downwards.
"Two human hero-levels, I wonder how long you can last in the hands of I, the Extreme Ice Venerable!" Jerome sneered as he looked at the two heroes in front of him, condensing an ice blade in his hand.
"Less talk! Die, Demon King!" The two heroes exchanged glances, their bodies glowing with countless magic patterns, boosted by numerous statuses. Immediately after, they launched their attacks towards Jerome.
