774: Chapter 774 Night Gathering
Peter and Gwen were speechless; seeing Tony's "back from the dead" appearance, they were once again shocked by the treasures in Clarissa's hands.
Moreover, listening from the side, those treasures could actually be exchanged for with contribution points.
That was practically having an extra life!
The Akatsuki Organization was too terrifying!
Peter and Gwen exchanged a glance, feeling honored to have joined such an organization.
Most importantly, they didn't feel at all like this was an "evil organization," nor was it about destroying the world or anything like that.
Clarissa had set it up almost like a hobby and then pulled them in; there were no grand goals or strict requirements.
But the benefits were incredible—a monthly salary of one hundred thousand dollars; she didn't treat money like money at all!
But then again, Clarissa had the resources of so many worlds behind her, and given how casually she handled tons of gold, she certainly wasn't short on cash.
Even more important were those treasures!
"Alright, there are many follow-up matters for you to learn about slowly. For now, pick your rooms," Clarissa called out, ushering everyone inside.
Soon, everyone had chosen their rooms.
The powerful AI that Tony helped install had its permissions set from the start, with Clarissa holding the highest authority.
Subsequently, Clarissa gave the members of the organization Level 1 clearance.
"Alright, it's about time. Let's head out to the gathering." Clarissa took out the business card from before and handed it to Tony: "Go to this address."
Tony took a look: "This place is a bit remote, but it's quite high-class!"
Since Tony knew the place, Clarissa didn't worry about it.
Tony drove a car himself with Clarissa in the passenger seat, while Peter, Gwen, and Lorna sat in the back.
They drove toward their destination.
After a while, they successfully arrived at the gathering location.
The area was sparsely populated, but there was a clubhouse that looked very high-end at first glance.
It was somewhat out of place with its surroundings.
At the entrance, two burly men in black suits stood guard.
"Hmm?" Seeing the five people approaching, the burly men couldn't help but scan them with their eyes.
Especially when looking at Clarissa's face, one man's eyes turned greedy, but something seemed to be suppressing him. He forced down that greed and desire, raising a hand: "Tickets."
"Here." Clarissa produced the business card; whether it was one or not, it was now.
"Mhm, go on in." The burly man glanced at it, appearing somewhat casual.
He then let them through, allowing Clarissa's group of five to enter.
After they went inside, the two men started chatting.
"That chick is really something!"
"Yeah! The other two are decent stock as well!"
"Hey, that blonde girl might even become our boss in the future!"
"True... a top-tier beauty like that, at the very least she'll move up two ranks. After her first time, she'll be a Viscount at least!"
The burly man's eyes were filled with envy and sighing.
As for the people Clarissa brought? It didn't matter; any number of people were welcome!
No tickets? What was that? Wasn't that just something used to trick people into coming to the address?
"But I feel like something's not quite right. In that group just now, one of them looked a bit familiar..." the burly man said suddenly as he thought about it.
The other man, who had been so focused on Clarissa that his eyes were glued to her, thought for a moment after hearing this and shook his head helplessly: "I don't know, though now that you mention it, I feel something's a bit off too."
"I feel like something's not quite right..." After entering, Peter, with his Spider-Sense tingling, felt strange. He frowned and whispered, "What do you guys think?"
"I feel it too!" Tony had also noticed. As a playboy, he had attended no small number of gatherings; he was tired of all sorts of mid-to-high-end and even top-tier parties.
Not to mention, many of those parties were hosted by him.
Tony felt it was weird, not because the party's class was poor—from the decor to every other aspect, it wasn't bad, and could be considered high-end.
But he just felt it was strange, though he couldn't put his finger on why.
"Is it because there are quite a lot of lower-class people in a place like this?" Lorna suddenly spoke up.
"Hmm?" Hearing this, Tony couldn't help but observe carefully, and then it dawned on him!
He hadn't really paid much attention to the guests.
Now he realized that most of them were actually wearing "cheap suits," likely bought second-hand or rented. With Tony's status, when had his food or clothing ever been lacking? He naturally identified them at a glance.
For so many lower-class people to appear in such a high-end place, no wonder he felt it was weird. He hadn't thought in that direction at first, but now that Lorna pointed it out, he noticed the discrepancy.
"Indeed..." Peter was also a poor kid, though not as poor as Lorna. Once Lorna said it, he felt it too.
Logically, for such a high-end place to have so many lower-class people was odd; there were at least several hundred of them.
Moreover, the waiters walking to and fro looked "Advanced," and their behavior and mannerisms were professionally trained.
At the same time, some truly "wealthy people" holding wine glasses were interspersed among the crowd, occasionally stopping to chat.
To these few people with "ulterior motives," it seemed a bit eerie. Coupled with the fact that their focus was different from others coming here, and they lacked any so-called inferiority complex, they could see more clearly.
Needless to say for Tony, a scion of a financial magnate—why would he need an inferiority complex?
Peter might have had one before, even after getting superpowers and becoming Spidey, but now... after joining Clarissa's organization and being "tormented" in various ways, plus the stimulation from Tony and the organization's base...
He might feel inferior about other things, but it was unlikely this place would make him feel that way.
Lorna was in a similar situation to Peter.
Then there was Gwen; her own father was the Commissioner of the New York Police Department. She was essentially a high-ranking official's daughter; why would she be inferior?
Thus, everyone entered with different mindsets, and the things they saw were naturally different.
"Boss, why did you bring us to this gathering? It can't just be to broaden our horizons, right?" Peter couldn't help but ask Clarissa.
"Don't call me Boss, just call me Clarissa. The organization has no hierarchy," Clarissa corrected Peter's form of address.
"Alright~ Clarissa." Peter shrugged. Whatever you say goes; you're still the BOSS, and even if there's no hierarchy, there's still a difference in strength.
"Back to the question," Peter said to Clarissa.
"Broadening horizons... it really is to broaden your horizons!" Clarissa said with a smile.
"Hey! Should've said so earlier! I could've just thrown a party for you guys! We'd have everything—like a pool party~" Tony raised an eyebrow and said to everyone, "You can see whatever you want to see! We could have one every day!"
"This kind of broadening of horizons is different from yours~ You'll find out in a bit. Just stay quiet!" Clarissa said, slightly shaking her head.
