12: Vanguard/Outing
"Hello! Are there any other missions? Preferably ones on the front line, where I can kill orcs!" Clarissa asked the clerk at the counter.
The clerk looked at Clarissa with some curiosity when she heard her words, but didn't say much.
Such people weren't uncommon; they were either "bellicose" or "vengeful."
The clerk said to Clarissa, "Recently..."
Suddenly, a crystal nearby flashed, and the clerk looked at it.
"Ah! Perfect, there's a mission. The Vanguard Army needs people. Do you want to go? It's to the front lines, and you'll almost certainly encounter orc teams," the clerk said to Clarissa.
"That's the one!" Clarissa said directly.
"I haven't even mentioned the reward yet..." the clerk hadn't finished speaking.
"No need, just settle it for me when the time comes!" Clarissa told the clerk.
..."Alright!" The clerk nodded. As for deducting pay or anything similar, that was out of the question; everything had to be recorded. Furthermore, it required registration and issuance, and could be queried. If he dared to deduct, he would absolutely be executed by military law.
"Alright then! Take this certificate! Someone will lead you over!" The clerk took out a certificate and handed it to Clarissa.
"Thank you!" Clarissa nodded, took the certificate, and left the administrative office.
She then asked for directions and found the Vanguard Army's camp.
"Hello!" Clarissa presented her certificate. The soldiers there were very direct, leading Clarissa to their captain.
"Alright, you just follow us when we set off! Rest here for a bit, we're departing in an hour!" The captain nodded, allowing Clarissa to move freely. He didn't make Clarissa stay within the formation, but rather allowed her to act independently, as long as she followed them.
...
Tang Ziheng, who was "binge-watching" behind the scenes, looked at his current source points, which already numbered several hundred.
Clarissa and Lin Ze's activities also generated source points. As mentioned before, changing or influencing the world would grant source points, but all of these source points were "consumed" by Tang Ziheng.
So, through the activities of his two workers, Tang Ziheng had now gained a considerable amount of source points.
However, he was still far from the number of source points needed to unlock the next world.
"The current earning speed is still a bit slow..." Tang Ziheng stroked his chin. He couldn't help it; his two workers hadn't started growing yet. Once they did, the speed of earning money would become faster and faster.
"I wonder what the next world will be..." Tang Ziheng wasn't in a hurry with his current two workers. After all, he didn't even have a body yet, and all he could do every day was "binge-watch."
...
Lin Ze woke up, rolled over, and saw a face in front of him.
He nearly jumped up, grabbed his knife, and swung it, but he reacted quickly and recognized the person as Lin Zhi.
Lin Ze took a deep breath, suppressed his anger, sat up straight, and looked at Lin Zhi, who was curled up asleep beside him. He didn't say anything and stood up.
Perhaps it was Lin Ze's movement, but Lin Zhi startled awake.
"What's wrong?!" Lin Zhi quickly scrambled up and asked Lin Ze, who was already standing, while looking around. She only breathed a sigh of relief when she saw there was no movement.
Lin Ze shook his head slightly and said, "It's nothing, I just rested enough. Let's get up and eat something. The rain outside seems to have lessened, I wonder if it's going to stop."
"Mm-hmm! Okay!" Lin Zhi nodded quickly. Whatever Lin Ze said, she would listen and do. She was very obedient.
The two of them ate the last of their food, completely running out of supplies.
However, Lin Ze wasn't worried, as they were about to go out to search for supplies. If they really searched for supplies, they certainly wouldn't be lacking. At the very least, eating one meal wouldn't be a problem.
Moreover, Lin Ze had an unknown system as his backing, so he was even less concerned about food.
"Are we going out?" Lin Zhi looked around to see if there was anything they could take with them that might be useful on the road.
"Yes, if we don't go out to search for supplies, what will we eat?" Lin Ze retorted, "Besides, it's not safe here, and it's not a suitable safe house."
The location of this house was relatively exposed, but it had an open view, and various places could be entered. It was accessible from all directions, making it very difficult to defend.
As a safe house, it was completely unsuitable.
Leaving here was inevitable, and furthermore, Lin Ze still needed to kill monsters.
Lin Ze looked at Lin Zhi, who seemed to want to take everything with her, and shook his head slightly, saying, "Let's go, we don't need to take anything!"
"Oh... okay!" Lin Zhi was a little reluctant, but she also knew she couldn't take these things.
For example, bedding, pots, pans, and so on. If they went to another place, they might not have such things to use.
Lin Ze looked out the window. The rain had indeed lessened significantly, turning from a heavy downpour into a light drizzle.
It should stop completely soon.
"Come, help." Lin Ze began to move the obstacles blocking the doorway, and at the same time, he spoke to Lin Zhi.
"Okay!" Lin Zhi quickly ran over and started helping to move them together.
In a short while, everything was moved away.
Lin Ze directly pushed open the main door and walked out.
Lin Zhi cautiously followed behind Lin Ze, looking left and right, always worried that a monster would pop out from some nook or cranny.
The street was very desolate, with damaged houses and various broken items on the ground: glass, wooden boards, chairs, etc.
Many cars were also severely damaged.
However, just by looking, there seemed to be no trace of any monsters.
"Stay close to me, and also, watch your back," Lin Ze whispered to Lin Zhi, then hugged the wall and walked forward.
Lin Zhi nodded: "Okay..." After speaking, she followed closely behind Lin Ze.
Rustle ~
Lin Ze's ears twitched; he heard the sound of something dragging on the ground.
"Something's there," Lin Ze said softly.
Lin Zhi's body tensed immediately, and she looked around nervously.
Lin Ze gripped his knife, crouched low, and stealthily moved forward.
When Lin Zhi saw Lin Ze discovering movement and not hiding but instead creeping closer, she immediately became anxious, but she didn't dare to speak loudly. She could only follow behind Lin Ze in a panic.
Lin Ze arrived at the intersection and peeked around the corner at the other street.
There were five wandering zombies on the road, seemingly having come out after the "rain had cleared."
Lin Ze saw that on the other side, there were also several zombie dogs, and... they had already seen him.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh! The zombie dogs immediately charged towards Lin Ze.
The zombie dogs opened their drooling, blood-stained mouths wide, their running making considerable noise. The zombies on the other side were also alerted and began to walk towards them.
Lin Ze quickly calculated in his mind: three zombie dogs. If he dealt with them quickly, the five zombies on the other side shouldn't be difficult to handle...
It seemed no other monsters had "spawned" nearby...
"They're coming!" Lin Zhi suppressed her voice, saying in terror, her hands gripping the two fruit knives so tightly that her knuckles were white.
"Protect yourself. In the apocalypse, you must learn to fight!" Lin Ze told Lin Zhi, then with a whoosh, he actually charged forward to meet the zombie dogs.
"Eh!?" Lin Zhi saw Lin Ze charge forward and instinctively wanted to shout, but she swallowed it back. Then she gritted her teeth, grabbed her two knives, and rushed after Lin Ze.
When a man dies, he faces the heavens; if he doesn't die, he lives for ten thousand years!
I, Lin Zhi, must stand tall! I can't let life dictate me like before! Kill!!! Lin Zhi ran while giving herself a pep talk.
