732: Chapter 732 Searching the Convenience Store

Wang Quan quietly lowered his body and took a look. There was a convenience store nearby. After scanning the surroundings, he stealthily slipped towards it.

The convenience store's rolling shutter door was half-closed, requiring one to crouch down to enter.

Wang Quan reached the rolling shutter door and carefully checked the surroundings once more. Only after confirming there was no danger did he lie on The Ground and look inside.

He was joking—he wouldn't dare go straight in. What if a Camper was hiding behind the door?

Then this half-closed rolling shutter door would basically be a mysterious 'meal delivery slot'!

To the left of the entrance was a counter. Inside the glass display case were many messy packs of cigarettes and betel nuts... It looked like someone had hurriedly grabbed a few handfuls and fled.

Other areas were quite empty, with shelves further inside.

On the surface, forget zombies—there wasn't even a foot to be seen.

It seemed safe to enter. At this moment, Wang Quan's heart was thumping wildly. It couldn't be helped; although he had the System and had joined the Cross-World Group, he was still just an ordinary person.

For someone who had never had any thrilling experiences and had lived a plain, ordinary life, entering a semi-enclosed convenience store in a Doomsday World with zombies... while the surroundings were deathly quiet, it would be a lie to say he wasn't nervous.

Wang Quan took a deep breath and stopped overthinking.

Go in!

Search, Fight, Withdraw—how could he not search!

Wang Quan bent down and entered, almost crawling on The Ground.

Because there were no lights inside, even though it was daytime, it still looked quite dim.

There was no danger at the entrance. Wang Quan carefully peered inside for a while, ready to run at any moment.

"Thump~ Thump~" Wang Quan lightly tapped the glass counter at the door, making a bit of noise.

He was attempting to lure out any zombies inside.

After waiting a few seconds, there was still no movement.

Great! It should be safe. Wang Quan relaxed slightly, but his nerves remained tense.

Let me see what I can find... Wang Quan began rummaging through the things near the door.

Of course, his movements were still very light. If he attracted a zombie from outside, he would be a 'turtle caught in a jar' inside here.

[You found a 250ml bottle of purified water]

[You found a bag of vacuum-packed egg yolk filled bread]

[You found a moldy sandwich]

[You found Rag*1]

[You found Cigarettes*12]

Wang Quan searched through the items at the entrance for a while.

Originally, for this 'Search, Fight, Withdraw' routine, he didn't have a 'backpack' space or anything similar and would have to carry it on himself. However, because he was in the Cross-World Group, which had its own space, he placed these items into the Cross-World Group's storage space.

"This is great~ It's like having 'Keep Inventory' turned on. So comfortable." Looking at the supplies sitting quietly in his storage space, Wang Quan was instantly overjoyed.

In that case... Wang Quan looked toward the shelves.

It was deathly silent inside. Due to the lack of lights, the distance from the entrance, and the rows of shelves blocking the way, the light was extremely dim.

*Gulp.* Wang Quan admitted that even if there was no movement and a high probability of no zombies, he was still scared.

If I die, I die; if I don't, I'll live forever!

Let's do this!

Wang Quan shuffled further inside.

Start searching! Wang Quan headed straight for the nearest shelf.

The items on the shelves were messy and sparse.

It was obvious that it had been looted before.

Wang Quan rummaged through, row after row.

Good grief, in the end, he found a few packs of abandoned 'Qin Zui Shao' spicy strips and quite a lot of potato chips from various corners.

Because of their puffed packaging, potato chips were not easy to carry, so many were left behind, especially since they were scattered all over the place.

As for anything else, forget about being left behind—even snacks like Pickled Chicken Feet were gone.

Wang Quan didn't care about any of that and threw everything into his storage space. The storage space of the Cross-World Group was tied to one's own combat Rank.

However, even for someone like Wang Quan at Rank 0, the space was very large—enough for his needs.

At least for now, he felt it was unlikely he would fill it up.

These were all snacks that were either hard to carry or couldn't provide much nutrition, hydration, or satiety.

As for those biscuits and breads, it was impossible for them to be left behind.

"Eh, there's a door here. Is it a storage room?" Wang Quan finished searching the convenience store. It was clean; he had basically thrown all the remaining supplies into his backpack.

Forget about a 'Red' drop, there wasn't even a 'Gold' one. You could say it was all just junk.

Then what about this room? Having harvested a pile of junk, at least the bottle of purified water guaranteed his hydration for today, and the pile of snacks could barely fill his stomach.

But was this right? He had taken such a huge risk! He had come into this convenience store to loot, and this was all he got.

"It's all up to you!" Wang Quan looked at the tightly closed door in front of him and reached out to grab the handle.

He pressed down; the door wasn't locked.

He slowly pushed the door open, while maintaining a posture ready to jump back at any moment.

The moment the door opened, a foul stench hit him square in the face.

Holy crap! Caught off guard, Wang Quan almost passed out on the spot.

Inside was a corpse rotted beyond recognition—how should he put it? It was practically just a skeleton.

It was covered in bite marks, even on the bones. The floor was covered in blood that had long since turned dark black and dried up.

Wang Quan hadn't guessed wrong; this was indeed a storage room. But there really wasn't much left inside. The messy environment, broken packaging, a large amount of dried-up excrement, and puddles of yellow urine stains told a story.

A general scene had already formed in Wang Quan's mind.

This person had been eaten.

And not by one person, but by a group. They probably hid in this convenience store when the apocalypse started, though it was unclear which wave of survivors they were.

This group of people hid here, surviving on the supplies. Finally, when there wasn't enough, they turned to cannibalism!

After that, it was likely either a 'big fight' or they fled.

Or maybe they attracted zombies, causing them to flee directly?

Wang Quan wasn't a detective, so naturally, he couldn't analyze too much.

But still... After going outside to take a deep breath, Wang Quan held his breath and re-entered.

He quickly scanned the room.

Yeah, there really was nothing at all.

Damn! Coming into this convenience store was a waste of effort!

Once Wang Quan was certain there was nothing left, he immediately headed outside.

"Phew~" He almost suffocated himself. He exhaled a long breath of foul air and then took several deep breaths.

After recovering a bit, he prepared to leave the convenience store.

"Eh, wait..." Out of the corner of his eye, Wang Quan suddenly spotted a fire extinguisher.

He suddenly realized a problem.

"A weapon! Right, I need to get a handy weapon." It dawned on Wang Quan. Going out empty-handed like this without a weapon—was he just going to run if he encountered a zombie?

He couldn't exactly fight zombies with his bare hands, could he? He wasn't immune to the virus.

Although there was the so-called Shelter bed that could resurrect him, who knew what the deal was with that!

He hadn't died yet.

With that thought, Wang Quan immediately searched the convenience store for a usable weapon.

It had to be a blunt instrument, hard enough, and not too heavy.

A wrench would be nice too... Wang Quan searched carefully, especially in places where tools might be kept.

Heaven never seals off all exits. Although he hadn't found much in the way of supplies, he actually did find a handy weapon.
