437: Cannibal

Accompanying Jun Li on her journey was a caravan.

Although there was a possibility of attacks on this road, it was impossible to halt all traffic because of it.

After all, while attacks did happen, not every passing group was targeted.

Moreover, even without Day Roaming Ghosts, there were other demons and monsters.

Caravans themselves often had many guards, either trained in-house or hired.

This was a common occurrence.

Of course, the strength of the guards varied.

Most were at the Post-natal Realm, which was more than enough for common demons.

However, against Day Roaming Ghosts and other demonic entities that were at least at the Innate Realm, most caravans were small, typically ranging from ten to thirty people, and if they didn't have Innate Realm guards, they couldn't deal with them relying solely on Post-natal Realm cultivators.

With Jun Li's inclusion, even if she only traveled a portion of the way, it made this twenty-person caravan feel incredibly secure!

At least this dangerous stretch of road could be 'breezed' through.

Jun Li set off with the caravan.

Because she was the 'big shot,' the person in charge offered Jun Li a seat in the carriage, but Jun Li refused, choosing instead to sit on a cargo box.

She convinced the person in charge by saying it was more convenient for observing their surroundings.

This instantly invigorated the caravan members, making them feel even more secure!

In the past, for particularly important cargo, they would hire more expensive and stronger mercenaries; those Innate Realm or even Embrace the Core Realm experts were all arrogant and would never sit on cargo.

When danger arose, they would slowly make their move, and during that time, some guards or laborers might die.

Furthermore, those individuals only needed to ensure the person in charge arrived at the destination alive to receive payment.

Some even had such poor 'hiring spirit' that they wouldn't even specifically protect the goods; if something was accidentally damaged... they could only suffer in silence.

Of course, for the most part, they were still quite professional.

After all, if they wanted to continue making a living, they couldn't ruin their reputation too badly.

But the overall environment was such that it was quite poor.

And ordinary people, like merchants, were helpless; large merchant guilds were better off, at least they could train their own guards and recruit talented individuals.

Even generally, those hired by large merchant guilds wouldn't be too bad.

After all, large merchant guilds had power.

But small caravans and ordinary merchants suffered more.

"That, Sword Immortal adult..." The person in charge followed beside Jun Li.

"Just call me Jun Li, what is it? Is there something you need?" Jun Li smiled slightly, speaking gently.

"That, I wanted to ask... where have the Sword Immortals gone? Will they ever return?" The person in charge was a middle-aged man with temples tinged with gray.

Although he was a merchant, he didn't have that pot-bellied, shrewd, smiling tiger appearance.

Instead, he exuded a sense of having endured many hardships.

This was also the appearance of most merchants; merchants in this world earned their money through sweat and blood.

Jun Li was stunned when she heard the middle-aged man's words, then remained silent.

The middle-aged man sighed, "Alas, I understand... I wonder when this world will get better..."

The middle-aged man's face was etched with the sorrow of this era.

He had already experienced hardship, and his desire for the world to improve wasn't for himself, but because he didn't want his descendants to continue enduring such suffering.

Jun Li pursed her lips; although she had only just descended the mountain a day ago, the oppression and pain of this current era had deeply wounded her.

And all of this began with that great catastrophe thousands of years ago.

Since then, it had been a downhill slide, with no chance to recover or change along the way.

As a result, it had fallen into chaos repeatedly, leading to the current era.

After such a long time, humans, as the most adaptable creatures, if they don't die, they will always adapt and get used to it... People now live in this dark era, accustomed and numb.

Hiss~ Hiss~

Suddenly, strange hissing sounds echoed around them.

"No good! It's Man-Eating Ghosts!" An experienced mercenary nearby immediately shouted.

Man-Eating Ghosts.

These were a very common type of demon; unlike Ghouls, Man-Eating Ghosts preferred to eat 'living things,' especially 'living people,' while Ghouls preferred to eat 'dead things,' especially 'dead people.'

And unlike Ghouls, because they most liked to eat 'living people,' Man-Eating Ghosts would actively attack people and villages; of course, they also knew how to seek advantages and avoid harm, so they wouldn't attack large towns or military camps.

The number of Man-Eating Ghosts was extremely large, and they were the most common, coupled with their aggressive nature, so most attack incidents were basically caused by Man-Eating Ghosts.

Seven or eight Man-Eating Ghosts rushed out from the forest not far from both sides of the road.

They looked somewhat similar to Ghouls, but Ghouls were blood-red, as if their muscles were exposed.

Man-Eating Ghosts had a similar form, but their skin was pale white, like they had been soaked for a long time, and their surface also seemed to have a layer of oil that reflected light in the sun.

"No problem! Leave it to me!" Jun Li leaped out.

"Sword Immortal adult!" The middle-aged man's expression changed slightly upon hearing Jun Li's words, then he showed a hint of emotion.

As expected of the Sword Immortal adult! She was truly different from those flashy and cheap mercenaries!

If it were those 'big-name' mercenaries, in such a situation, they would definitely make others go first, then slowly make their own move, and before they resolved it, everyone else would just try to save their own lives.

Or they would wait for the people below to fight for a while, and only intervene when they saw the situation was bad.

They would never actively rush forward themselves.

However, this was already considered a mercenary with a strong 'hiring spirit.'

After the battle was over, you would still have to thank them profusely.

For many merchants, this was simply unbearable.

The mercenaries and some guards, especially the caravan's own guards, though not many, only three or four were 'caravan insiders,' like the merchants, looked at Jun Li with gratitude.

Clang!

Jun Li leaped out, her sword at her waist instantly unsheathed.

Great Sun Sword Art.

To deal with demons, Jun Li generally used the extremely potent and rigid Great Sun Sword Art.

Moreover, the Great Sun Sword Art was already her strongest Sword Technique.

Otherwise, it wouldn't be the only Sword Technique to have comprehended the Great Sun Sword Intent.

Clang!

The sword came out like the sun, and a scorching aura erupted.

Rounds of blazing suns scattered outwards.

Sizzle sizzle sizzle!

As a sound like cold water poured onto a red-hot iron block rang out, sizzling.

Those Man-Eating Ghosts were immediately burned to ashes by the blazing suns.

"So... so powerful!" The people around looked at Jun Li in shock.

She had dealt with these Man-Eating Ghosts in a single encounter; this number of Man-Eating Ghosts was already considered a medium-to-large scale in normal times!

Without Jun Li, the caravan would have inevitably lost several people before they could resolve it.

After all, these were demons!
