761: Chapter 761 Inviting Peter to the Party
"This... is all for me?" Lorna's throat tightened involuntarily. She couldn't help it; it was just too much!
"Of course. I'm never stingy with my own people," Clarissa said with a slight nod.
While Lorna was sleeping, Clarissa felt that if she wanted to recruit some manpower, she needed money. Previously, she had the little spider rely on Gwen to process some gold, but they didn't have many channels, and it was difficult to handle too much at once.
So they only had that small amount of money.
But things were different now. With a connection to S.H.I.E.L.D., Clarissa asked Agent Coulson for help. S.H.I.E.L.D. processed a ton of gold for her, and the latter gave her 10 million US dollars, which had already been deposited into her account.
This amount was considered a bit low, but Clarissa didn't care. It was just gold; she could have as much as she wanted.
Setting aside the issue of source points, just based on her identity in her own world, she could procure gold by the ton.
In their world, gold was not a precious metal; instead, certain "Xuanhuan Materials" were.
Furthermore, the amount of gold was quite substantial; it even existed as a "useless byproduct" of many Xuanhuan Materials.
Gold, silver, and brass were considered common, ordinary minerals in Clarissa's world.
The money Clarissa currently held was quite a significant sum.
Ten million—in this era, that value was incredibly high!
"Thank you!" Lorna didn't stand on ceremony and pocketed the fifty thousand dollars.
"Mhm, you can use this money as you wish to buy some clothes and such. For now, you'll stay here with me, and I'll make other arrangements later," Clarissa told Lorna.
This place was mainly chosen for its proximity to Peter's house, but she also planned to get a better one. Buy it? It was impossible for her to buy one... Wasn't there a sucker available?
That's right, Clarissa was thinking of Tony. She had saved both Tony and Yinsen, so Tony owed her two lives.
The latter was likely incredibly busy during this period, but even though he was a playboy, he certainly wasn't the type of person who didn't know how to repay a debt.
He would definitely investigate her and then come knocking on her door.
As for whether Tony could find her, her presence here wasn't exactly a secret. Even with S.H.I.E.L.D. involved, it would be a trivial matter for Tony to track her down.
So, she only needed to wait.
"Let's go, time to head out," Clarissa said as she stood up, leading Lorna toward Peter's house.
She wasn't just showing up unannounced, of course; she had already informed them in advance.
Aunt May was very welcoming of Clarissa bringing a friend over.
Peter was "withdrawn" and didn't have many friends, so she was very happy that he was gaining a new one.
"You're here! Quick, quick, come on in!" Uncle Ben opened the door and, seeing Clarissa at the entrance, hurried to usher everyone inside.
Then he turned and shouted toward the inner rooms, "Peter! Clarissa is here!"
"Okay!" Peter called back from inside the house and then emerged.
As soon as he saw Clarissa, he said happily, "Clarissa, you're here! Uh... and this is?"
"Her name is Lorna Dane, she's... well, my subordinate," Clarissa said, giving Lorna some Face in front of others by not calling her a maidservant.
"Hello, hello! I'm Peter Parker!" Peter said to Lorna with a quick smile.
"This is Uncle Ben, and that is Aunt May," Clarissa introduced Uncle Ben and Aunt May to Lorna.
Aunt May was busy preparing lunch in the open kitchen. "Hello, Lorna! Dear, please sit down, lunch will be ready in a moment."
"Let's go," Uncle Ben said with a smile, leading everyone to sit at the dining table.
"Is Gwen not coming?" Clarissa asked Peter after sitting down.
"She won't be here until tonight," Peter said with a shrug. "Are you coming over for dinner tonight too?"
"No, I have a party to attend tonight," Clarissa said with a slight shake of her head. Then she looked at Peter and suddenly asked, "Do you want to come along?"
"Me? To a party?" Peter's eyes widened as he pointed at himself, then he immediately waved his hands. "No, no, no, I won't go to a party! Besides, Gwen is coming over tonight."
"Hey! You young people should get together more. Just bring Gwen along," Uncle Ben said with a smile. "I'm sure Clarissa wouldn't go to any of those messy, inappropriate parties."
"Hmm~ of course!" Clarissa nodded with a smile. Uncle Ben was wrong about that; the party she was going to was very messy indeed.
"Uh... alright then! I'll go with Gwen tonight," Peter thought about it and, seeing Uncle Ben's nudge, could only agree to go along.
"Then you two should come back here for dinner first! After eating, we old folks will rest, and you young people can go have your fun," Uncle Ben said with a laugh.
"That's right! You should spend more time playing together. This boy Peter is either studying or buried in the lab all day, or he's just stuck at home," Aunt May said as she walked over carrying a roasting pan, placing the finished roasted beef ribs on the table. "There are a few more dishes. Don't be polite in a moment, eat your fill! Especially you, dear Lorna, our new friend."
"Mhm, I will." Feeling Aunt May's warmth, Lorna couldn't help but let a small smile appear on her Face.
As the final few dishes were served, Aunt May gave the word, and the meal began!
Lorna ate with very little ladylike grace, taking large bites of meat and vegetables.
It was delicious! So delicious!
When she was hiding and on the run, how could she ever eat this well?
Sob... Lorna was almost moved to tears.
"Slow down, slow down, there's plenty more!" Aunt May watched Lorna devouring the food, her Face showing the kind of doting smile a grandmother gives a beloved grandchild.
Being able to eat was good! To eat is a blessing! One must eat more!
Soon, the meal was finished.
Uncle Ben and Aunt May cleared the table. Lorna wanted to help, but she was stopped.
"You young people go play. Once we've cleared up, we should take a nap. At our age, we need more rest," Aunt May said with a smile.
"Peter, let's go. Come to my place; I'll tell you about the party tonight," Clarissa said to Peter.
"Sure, no problem!" Peter nodded.
This time, Uncle Ben didn't give Peter any money. Because of Clarissa and Gwen, they had been going out frequently lately, and with this connection, Peter also had an excuse when he went out to be a vigilante at night.
Thus, Uncle Ben would often find Peter to give him money, lest he be embarrassed by an empty wallet in front of the ladies.
However, after a few times, Peter came clean, saying that Clarissa had helped him earn some money and that he now had several tens of thousands of dollars in hand.
This surprised Uncle Ben, but at the same time, he wasn't worried that Clarissa was a "bad person" leading Peter to earn illicit money.
He was a good judge of character and felt that Clarissa was a very good person.
Since that was the case, he didn't say much more and treated Clarissa even better!
He truly treated her like his own daughter, and so did Aunt May.
It was because she was Peter's friend and had even helped Peter earn money.
Being able to earn money meant that Peter would be able to live well on his own in the future, so they wouldn't have to worry.
Peter had also firmly insisted on giving Uncle Ben fifty thousand dollars, giving half of his money to him.
Uncle Ben hadn't wanted it, but Peter was very insistent and said that Clarissa could continue to help him earn more.
