824: Chapter 824 The Shocking Kingpin
As for Kingpin's past, Tony had already had Akatsuki investigate it thoroughly.
This included the activities of the Underground World controlled by Kingpin.
To be honest, in Tony's eyes, it didn't amount to much. Moreover, with Kingpin there, the Underground World was actually "unified," which reduced a lot of chaos and made things more orderly.
Of course, those various reckless youths or the grey-area people caught in the cracks were another matter entirely.
Regardless, with Kingpin joining the Akatsuki Organization, the organization could certainly make him "turn over a new leaf."
"Alright, I won't dawdle too much. Welcome to the team, Kingpin," Tony said to Kingpin. "You can have Little Spider bring you to the base."
"Really!" Kingpin's face lit up with joy upon hearing he could join. He was somewhat surprised that he could join this mysterious Akatsuki Organization—a super organization capable of wrestling with the American military—just like that!
"Of course~ Once you're here, we'll have a formal induction ceremony and, well~ settle the matter of your benefits," Tony told Kingpin. "So, come over first. Little Spider!"
"Got it!" Peter, who was nearby, responded.
The communication then ended, and Kingpin handed the communicator back to Peter.
"Alright, follow me," Peter said to Kingpin, then led him to the prearranged teleportation point.
When Peter arrived with Kingpin...
A shower of sparks flickered, and a portal appeared. A mage stepped out, saw Peter and Kingpin, nodded to Peter, and then skillfully opened another portal.
The destination was the underground base of the Akatsuki Organization.
As for whether the teleportation points would be staked out—that was a good question.
First of all, the teleportation points were not fixed. Instead, someone would go and open one only when there was a need; one just had to contact the mages of Kamar-Taj in advance.
The latter would portal directly to the location, wait for you to arrive and open the gate, and then the mage would also leave and head back.
Next time, it would again depend on your needs; wherever you needed to be, they would go there to open it.
It was equivalent to a transfer point upon a transfer point.
The mages of Kamar-Taj were essentially emotionless "portals."
They actually enjoyed it. After all, it was just a small favor; they only needed to take a "mission," teleport to the location, open the door, and then teleport back.
A sum of contribution points would be in hand!
It didn't delay their own Cultivation, and it allowed them to become more proficient with portals.
In the current Kamar-Taj, one could skip practicing any other Spell, but the portal was a mandatory Spell that had to be mastered!
The purpose was all for the Akatsuki Organization's contribution points!
Wasn't Cultivating great? It was all to earn Cultivation resources, better Cultivation Techniques, and even special arts.
Those arts were things that even they, as mages, coveted. (Referring to various Martial Skills and Cultivation Techniques)
Though called Martial Skills, in their eyes, they were also Spells; it was just a difference in name and form.
But the effects were astonishing! And there were even bonuses for different levels of "proficiency"!
Even The Ancient One had received an Advanced Cultivation Technique and several Martial Skills provided for free by Clarissa due to her Cultivation.
The Ancient One now felt that there was no rush to "retire" for the time being.
Plus, with Kamar-Taj flourishing now, she had nothing much to do. Every day she would Cultivate, sip tea, and wander around.
Those mages didn't even have time to pay attention to her, their Supreme Sorcerer.
Kamar-Taj was thriving and rising!
Thriving!!!
All of this was brought by the Akatsuki Organization, changes brought by Clarissa.
Kingpin's worldview was somewhat shaken.
So that's how it was. No wonder they couldn't find any of Akatsuki's strongholds... With people coming and going via portals, direct teleportation, it would be a miracle if you could find any traces!
Kingpin arrived at an underground base filled with a sense of future technology.
He looked at everything around him; it was all so high-tech, making him feel unfamiliar and awestruck.
Polaris, Gwen, and Tony were already on one side.
Banner, Connors, and Yinsen were also there.
Tony had mentioned a new member would be joining, so they had to recognize the face, meet him, and say hello.
After all, they would be colleagues from now on. The atmosphere and environment of the Akatsuki Organization were very good, so there was no need for nonsense; just getting to know each other's faces was fine.
"You're here. Perfect, let's get acquainted. This is Lorna, code name Polaris." Tony began introducing them to Kingpin one by one.
Spider-Man Peter Parker, Ghost-Spider Gwen, Hulk Banner, Dr. Lizard Connors, Doctor Yinsen... and himself, the team leader, Iron Man Tony!
"Hello, everyone! I am Kingpin!" Kingpin kept his posture very low, speaking to everyone with great respect. For a man of his massive build, doing this looked a bit comical.
"As for our boss, well, she's not here right now. You'll get to know her when she's free. A blonde super-beauty~ When you see her in the base or the villa, pay attention and don't offend her," Tony told Kingpin.
"Yes, I understand!" Kingpin nodded immediately. Regardless of whether it was the BOSS or not, on this turf, if he met a dog, he would treat it as a Senior with utmost respect.
"Right, as for other rules, there aren't many. Usually, you just do what you need to do; there aren't many restrictions, no clocking in or anything like that," Tony said to Kingpin. "As for benefits~ we'll explain them one by one. I won't show you around. Peter~ get to work!"
"Fine." Peter shrugged. After the others had met him, they also dispersed to go about their business.
Connors and the other two in the research trio went back to the lab to keep busy.
Polaris went up to the villa's screening room to eat snacks and binge-watch shows.
Tony also had his MK series to research; he was currently working on the MK6 series.
"Alright, the two of us will show you around then." Gwen naturally wanted to go with Peter, and she felt that Peter probably wouldn't be able to explain things clearly.
Peter naturally agreed readily.
Kingpin had no objections either.
Soon, each benefit left Kingpin increasingly shocked.
Wait, is this right? Is this something he could actually enjoy?
And according to what Peter said, he was only a Rank 3 member!
There were Rank 2 and Rank 1 members above him! And even Administrators!
Kingpin now understood the current Rank system of the Akatsuki Organization.
The highest was naturally the Leader, the one and only BOSS, the ultimate authority of the Akatsuki Organization!
Next were the Administrators. Currently, Tony was serving as one, and he was the only one. More would be added later, provided the scale of the Akatsuki Organization grew.
Oh wait, there were two. Akatsuki was also an Administrator, though she wasn't human.
Further down, the Rank 1 members were Peter, Gwen, and Lorna. Rank 2 members were the three researchers: Connors, Yinsen, and Banner, who joined later.
And Kingpin, naturally, couldn't jump straight to being a Rank 3 member.
Of course, he hadn't become a "formal member" yet; there were even lower-level "outer members," essentially "cannon fodder."
Looking at it this way, he was still somewhat useful, starting out as a Rank 3 member at the very least.
However, he didn't know if there was a bonus for joining early; in other words, he could be considered a founding-level figure in the future!
That was secondary; what really shocked him were the benefits!
These benefits were simply too good!
