221: Wraiths and vengeful spirits, they actually exist!
Yang Mi couldn't help but take a step back, trembling as she asked, "What... what is this thing?"
"These are Wraiths," Ye Bai said. "It looks like they were left behind by a Necromancer."
"A Necromancer?" Yang Mi’s face turned pale with fright. "Do Necromancers actually exist?"
Ye Bai said, "Yes, Necromancers are composed of Evil Gods like deceased liches, Demons, and the Undead. They take all sorts of strange forms; some look like animals, some like plants, or even living beings. In short, without exception, they all possess terrifying power."
Yang Mi hadn't yet recovered from the shock; she muttered to herself, "What should we do... there's a Necromancer's tomb here..."
"It's fine. Although Necromancers are eerie, I don't think this tomb has any restrictions set up." Ye Bai smiled and patted Yang Mi’s head. "Don't be afraid."
He picked up the Dagger and walked toward the bronze ding.
Ye Bai easily inserted the Dagger into the rim of the ding. Suddenly, the churning Black Mist inside the ding dispersed, and the Wraiths that had originally occupied the ding fled one after another, yet they couldn't break free from the Dagger in Ye Bai's hand.
Ye Bai swung the Dagger, slashing the black Wraiths into pieces one by one. Soon, a thick smell of blood permeated the entire Stone Hall. It was the blood formed by the gathering of blood shed when the Wraiths died, emitting a faint stench of decay. Ye Bai frowned and poured out all of these foul liquids.
Yang Mi stood aside and watched for a moment, then couldn't help but say, "Mr. Ye, this Black Mist... isn't Wraiths, is it?"
"Yeah, it's resentment," Ye Bai nodded. "I've seen it in books; these things are called 'Wraith Specters'."
"Wraith Specters..." Yang Mi swallowed hard and said, "No wonder it feels weird..."
"However, these aren't the most dangerous. After all, no matter how powerful Wraith Specters are, they don't have their own thoughts or ability to act, and they certainly can't harm living things. The most dangerous one is the Princess sitting in the coffin." Ye Bai looked toward the outer coffin deep in the Tomb Chamber: "That's the Princess, and her power is very strong. If she awakens, it will be catastrophic. We must stop her..."
Yang Mi gritted her teeth and asked, "Then how should we stop her?"
Ye Bai raised both hands and formed a hand seal: "I know an Incantation that specifically counters Wraith Specters. I'll try to see if I can help the Princess unlock her shackles."
Then, Ye Bai closed his eyes and silently recited the Incantation.
After a moment, Ye Bai opened his eyes.
He looked down at the runes on his arm and said, "It should be about done..."
"What's wrong?"
"I've found a Secret Door that can open the coffin."
Yang Mi was extremely excited and hurriedly pressed, "Open it quickly!"
Ye Bai shook his head and said, "I don't dare to open it rashly."
"Why?"
"I suspect the moment the coffin is opened, something will rush out from inside."
"You mean... a corpse transformation?" Yang Mi's eyes widened.
Ye Bai nodded: "Yes."
"That's too terrifying... let's just run!" Yang Mi said, grabbing Ye Bai's arm.
"Don't be in a hurry," Ye Bai comforted. "The Princess only has a remnant soul left now. Even if a corpse transformation occurs, she won't pose a threat to us."
Yang Mi hesitated for a moment and said, "Alright then... but we have to be prepared. If the situation is really too severe, we'll evacuate immediately."
Ye Bai nodded: "Don't worry, I have experience."
Thus, the two quietly approached that bronze coffin.
The bronze coffin was covered with all kinds of Talismans, dense and numerous like a spider web. Whenever the Black Mist drifted, these Talismans would flicker with an eerie blue light.
Ye Bai stared at these Talismans and looked carefully for a moment. He suddenly raised his hand to touch the coffin lid, then pulled out the Dagger and made a cut to the left.
The moment the Dagger sliced through the air, ripples appeared on the bronze plate as if encountering some kind of obstruction, and it slowly returned to calm.
Watching Ye Bai's actions, Yang Mi couldn't help but ask, "What... what are you doing?"
Ye Bai smiled slightly and said, "Nothing, just testing it out."
Just as he finished speaking, with a 'bang', the coffin lid suddenly opened.
Ye Bai retreated rapidly, avoiding the thing that lunged forward.
Once the thing fully revealed its form, Ye Bai looked closely.
He saw that the thing was actually a stiff Skeleton, wearing a magnificent suit of silver armor, holding a longsword, and with a King's Totem on its back. This appearance reminded one of the legendary Knights.
This Knight was surrounded by a thick, cold aura, causing the surrounding temperature to drop significantly. Its body was two meters tall, it carried a War Hammer on its shoulder, and its legs were crossed as it stood up.
An arrow was lodged in the Knight's chest, its shaft already broken.
Ye Bai extended his right palm and pressed it against the Knight's chest cavity. A cold aura seeped into the Knight's body through his fingertips. The Knight's body suddenly shuddered, and then it slumped down limply.
"Is it done?" Yang Mi asked.
Ye Bai withdrew his right palm and said, "It should be."
Yang Mi was stunned for a moment and asked, "Are you sure you didn't intentionally use your own Yang Qi to suppress the Wraith Specters?"
"No," Ye Bai shrugged. "This guy's resentment are simply too thick, likely because it suffered tragic torture before death. Moreover, its body has completely stiffened; unless suppressed with Yang Qi, it's impossible to kill it."
Yang Mi said, "Then, what do we do next? Are we taking it with us?"
Ye Bai shook his head: "We are just Tomb Robbers, not saviors. What's buried here isn't just a single Wraith. If we take the Wraith Specters away, it's very likely to cause a chain reaction. At that time, it might truly be troublesome."
"Then we... just leave it alone?" Yang Mi asked.
Ye Bai sighed: "We can only leave it like this for now. Let's go out first; there should be other Tomb Robbers outside."
The two pushed the door and walked out.
Yang Mi asked, "Where are your friends?"
"Still outside. Wait a bit, we'll go out together," Ye Bai said.
"Okay."
Yang Mi followed behind Ye Bai, and the two walked out cautiously... At this moment, outside the Tomb Chamber, the Tomb Robbers were discussing among themselves.
"Oh boy, I say, Brother Ye, your moves are quite impressive!" Fatty Brother Li gave Ye Bai a thumbs up and praised, "You actually sealed the Wraith Specters, that's awesome!"
Ye Bai chuckled and didn't pay attention, instead looking around.
This Old Castle was extremely huge, covering an area of about five hundred square kilometers.
The Black Mist in the Tomb Chamber was still terrifyingly thick, almost condensing into a solid substance, obscuring the sky. Under the shroud of the Black Mist, the scenes inside the Tomb Chamber also gradually became blurred and distorted. Occasionally, some hideous ghost shadows could be seen emerging in the translucent Black Mist, letting out piercing shrieks.
This kind of scene would make anyone with a bit less courage unwilling to enter.
