357: Pure Yang techniques, in crucial moments you still have to rely on the big shots.
Ye Bai glanced at them, a flash of imperceptible tenderness crossing his eyes before he resumed his cold demeanor: "You two stay close to me, don't run off."
Lin Yu continued, "Mausoleums of the Tang Dynasty like to use the Five Elements and Eight Trigrams to set traps. If we search the lake bottom recklessly, we're likely to trigger some danger."
"I once heard a folk ghost story about a group of Tomb Robbers who entered a similar Ancient Tomb. They didn't listen to warnings and searched a pool that seemed to hide treasure, only to trigger a Water Ghost's seal."
"Once the Water Ghost emerged, none of those Tomb Robbers survived. Their deaths were gruesome—bodies bloated and eyes bulging, as if their souls had been sucked out."
Yang Mi's face turned even paler. "Is... is it really that terrifying?" Ye Bai didn't answer, his gaze fixed intently on the lake surface.
At that moment, a strange ripple appeared on the lake. The once calm surface looked as if something was churning beneath it. Ye Bai whispered, "Something's wrong. Everyone, be careful."
The viewers in the Live Stream Room also saw this, and the bullet comments scrolled frantically.
"Holy crap, what is that? There isn't actually a Water Ghost, is there?"
"Streamer, run! I feel like something's about to happen."
Suddenly, a pale hand reached out from the lake water and grabbed a rock on the shore. Immediately after, a soaking wet figure with long hair covering its face slowly rose from the water.
"Ah!" Meng Ziyi couldn't help but scream, and Yang Mi was also frightened out of her wits.
Ye Bai quickly drew a peach wood sword from his waist, chanting under his breath as he stabbed toward the Water Ghost-like thing. The Water Ghost seemed to sense the threat; it let out a shrill scream, released the rock, and dove back into the water.
Ye Bai's brow furrowed. "This thing isn't simple. It should be a Resentful Spirit sealed here. For some reason, we've disturbed it."
Lin Yu nodded. "It seems there really is a problem at the bottom of the lake. We can't act rashly."
Yang Mi asked with a trembling voice, "Then what do we do? Are we not looking for the treasure anymore?" Ye Bai glanced at her. "First, we figure out the origin of this Resentful Spirit. Perhaps then we can find a way to break the seal."
The viewers in the Live Stream Room were also speculating wildly.
"Could this be a Resentful Spirit formed from the person who guarded the treasure back then?"
"Maybe it's someone who was buried alive with the deceased, harboring deep resentment."
Ye Bai paced by the lakeside, thinking of a strategy. Suddenly, he looked at the live stream and said, "Do any of you know any similar ghost stories about this place? It might help us."
The bullet comments scrolled again.
"I heard this used to be a general's burial ground. The general was framed by villains and died with his eyes open. His soldiers were all buried with him, so the resentment is very heavy."
"Another version is that this was once a site for cult sacrifices. They used living people, and the souls of those victims have been trapped here ever since."
Ye Bai pondered for a moment. "If it's the general's soldiers, their resentment should be directed at the villains; we have no connection to them, so they shouldn't attack us. If it's a cult sacrifice, then we're in trouble."
Lin Yu said, "Regardless, we have to find the source first."
Meng Ziyi suddenly said, "I think we can look around for clues first, like any special symbols or marks."
Everyone thought it made sense, so they began to search the lakeside carefully.
Before long, Yang Mi found a strange symbol in the corner of a stone tablet; it looked like a distorted human face. Ye Bai walked over and examined it closely.
"I've seen this symbol in an Ancient Book. It's a mark of cult sacrifice. It seems we really are in big trouble."
Lin Yu's expression was grave. "Then we need to find a way to break it as soon as possible. Otherwise, when that Resentful Spirit attacks again, we won't be able to withstand it."
The viewers in the Live Stream Room were also worried for them.
"Good luck, Streamers! You must stay safe."
"I hope they can find a way. This is too thrilling."
Ye Bai asked everyone to gather around and said, "The Ancient Books record that Resentful Spirits produced by cult sacrifices can be suppressed with Pure Yang items. We need to find something like that."
Yang Mi asked, "Pure Yang items? Like what?" Ye Bai replied, "Like cinnabar, peach wood, and stones that have been exposed to the scorching sun at high noon."
And so, the group began searching for these items within the Mausoleum.
During their search, they encountered more strange phenomena. Faint human faces would occasionally appear on the walls, letting out eerie laughter.
Meng Ziyi said fearfully, "These faces are so terrifying. It feels like they're watching us."
Ye Bai comforted her, "Don't be afraid. It's just an illusion; the Resentful Spirit is interfering with us."
After some searching, the group finally found some cinnabar and peach wood, but the stones exposed to the noon sun were nowhere to be found.
The faces on the walls became clearer, and the eerie laughter grew louder, echoing through the entire space and making their skin crawl.
Yang Mi gripped Meng Ziyi's arm tightly, her fingers turning white from the exertion.
"This laughter is too scary. I feel like they're about to rush at us."
Although Meng Ziyi was also afraid, she forced herself to stay calm. "Don't be afraid, Ye Bai is here."
Ye Bai gave a faint smile and said, "Don't worry, everyone. Since we've found these items, there will definitely be a way to deal with them." He took out a talisman paper, bit his finger, drew a Suppression Curse, and pasted it onto the walls. Instantly, the laughter vanished, and the faces on the walls gradually receded, returning to normal.
"I really thought something was going to happen."
"Holy crap, the Streamer is awesome!"
"That curse was so cool. It could actually disperse ghosts. Now that's a real man."
"God Ye is so cool. What should I do? I want to marry him~"
Yang Mi breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Ye Bai."
Ye Bai smiled slightly and said, "I only studied Maoshan Arts for a few days, and it's already come in handy today."
Lin Yu said, "Let's keep going down and see what's actually going on here."
There were many coffins along the way. Ye Bai saw the writing on a coffin lid: 'The General's outer coffin is of imperial specifications, containing countless rare jewels and gold and silver vessels.'
Lin Yu frowned. "These words seem like praise, but they actually reveal a thick scent of blood."
Ye Bai nodded, sharing the sentiment.
"In that case, it's very likely this general was murdered by his own subordinates."
"Yeah, I think so too," Lin Yu said. "Let's get out of here quickly. I keep getting a creepy feeling."
The four of them continued downward, passing through layers of graves, until they finally arrived before a Stone Door.
Ye Bai raised his foot and kicked the heavy Stone Door, but it didn't budge an inch.
"This Stone Door is sealed shut. It looks like we'll need a key." Meng Ziyi suggested, "Should I try to see if I can open this door?"
"Let me try." Yang Mi pushed Meng Ziyi aside and crouched on the ground, using a small knife to carve two circles on the door. "You two step back."
Meng Ziyi and Lin Yu stepped far back.
Yang Mi connected the circles in order. "Done."
