268: He's like a living god, and that's no exaggeration.
Ye Bai said with a smile, "This Old Locust Tree is indeed alive."
"What!?" Yang Mi and Meng Ziyi were both shocked.
This Mural was indeed a bit strange, but it was far from being a living thing.
This could be judged from the color of the Scroll and the quality of the ink. This painting was already very old, and a few of the Scrolls had even turned yellow.
Yet Ye Bai said this Old Locust Tree was alive; how could anyone believe that?
Yang Mi's eyes widened. "Little brother, could it be that you're a Living Immortal?"
Meng Ziyi chimed in, "That's right, you must be a Living Immortal! Otherwise, how could you possibly interpret these Murals?"
"Heh." Ye Bai snorted coldly. "I'm just an ordinary person."
"An ordinary person? Would an ordinary person have such miraculous skills?" Yang Mi curled her lip.
"You are short-sighted, so of course you wouldn't understand," Ye Bai said indifferently.
Yang Mi bit her lip lightly, her face flushing slightly as if she were a bit annoyed.
Meng Ziyi pulled at Yang Mi, whispering words of comfort.
Ye Bai didn't bother wasting words with the two women and walked toward the Old Locust Tree.
The Old Locust Tree had lush branches, and its trunk was about a meter thick. Standing under this tree and looking up, Ye Bai suddenly felt half a head shorter.
"What a fine Old Banyan Tree."
Ye Bai praised. His gaze slowly swept over the entire Old Locust Tree. With a thought, his Soul Power spread out, attempting to penetrate into the Old Locust Tree.
This Old Locust Tree seemed quite spiritual and faintly emitted a special fluctuation that made it difficult for Ye Bai to penetrate the interior.
"This tree is probably not simple," Ye Bai thought to himself.
"Eh?" Ye Bai suddenly saw several pitch-black holes on a branch.
"Strange," Ye Bai murmured. He circled the Old Locust Tree once and then walked to the trunk. He leaned over and stared at the black holes.
While Ye Bai was examining the Old Locust Tree, Meng Ziyi and Yang Mi were admiring the Mural.
"Wow, there's a woman here, she's so beautiful." Meng Ziyi suddenly cried out. Following the direction Meng Ziyi pointed, she indeed saw a graceful and delicate silhouette in the shadows of a Mural, lying prone on a stone slab, revealing half of her snow-white shoulder.
"I see it too." Yang Mi's eyes were fixed on the Mural, her face filled with intense interest, as if she wished she could peel this beautiful woman right off the Mural.
Ye Bai's brows furrowed as he stared intently at the holes.
These holes were very small; if one looked with the naked eye, it was impossible to discover their existence. Moreover, there was nothing unusual about these holes.
Even a Martial Arts Master like Ye Bai could not detect them at first, which showed how mysterious they were.
These holes looked like they had been hollowed out by someone using a sharp tool, but also not quite.
What did this mean?
Why would they appear in a Mural?
Who exactly was buried in this Grave?
"What on earth do these holes mean?" Ye Bai murmured to himself.
After hesitating for a moment, he finally decided to try something.
He squatted down, used two fingers to pinch a hole, and brought it to the tip of his nose to sniff. Then, he shook his head.
"There is no oxygen inside this opening," Ye Bai said with a frown. He reached out to another hole and continued to sniff.
His expression became much more solemn because he had already smelled the stench of a Rotting Corpse. Combined with the environment inside this cave, it made Ye Bai more and more suspicious of his guess.
His face became extremely serious. He slowly stood up and took a step forward.
This time, Ye Bai chose the pit closest to the hole.
He held his breath, clenched his right hand into a fist, and smashed it hard toward that hole!
"Dong!"
A dull thud echoed out, followed by series of reverberations!
Ye Bai felt a powerful Rebound Force that made his whole body tremble violently, and his arm felt even more numb.
"Hiss..." Ye Bai gasped, retracting his palm in pain.
"What a terrifying Rebound Force!" Ye Bai took a deep breath, his eyes gradually becoming sharp. He took a deep look at these holes, turned around, and walked back the way he came.
Seeing this, Yang Mi immediately asked, "What did you see just now?"
"An Old Woman," Ye Bai said indifferently.
"An Old Woman?" Yang Mi was stunned for a moment, then burst out laughing. "You don't actually think we've encountered a ghost, do you? Stop joking!"
"Is that so?" Ye Bai glanced sideways at Yang Mi. "Can you guarantee that it's absolutely safe in here?"
"Uh..." Yang Mi was speechless. Although she was a Senior Agent of the Police Department and usually dealt with fewer such things, she was still someone who had received a modern education. She had heard plenty about the various eerie events mentioned in science fiction movies and had some level of immunity.
"You say there's a ghost hiding here, but do you have any evidence?"
"Evidence..." Ye Bai rubbed his nose and said calmly, "You'll understand if you look closely at the Mural."
Hearing this, Yang Mi and Meng Ziyi looked over and were instantly stunned.
In the center of the originally empty Mural, three pitch-black holes had appeared, located on the Old Locust Tree, the wall, and the trunk respectively.
"These three holes..." Yang Mi's eyes widened.
"They're openings." Meng Ziyi swallowed hard. "I remember the opening we came in through was just like this, right?"
Yang Mi nodded. "Yes. That opening was the same."
Ye Bai glanced at the two of them and said, "Since you're clear about the function of those three openings, you should know what they mean. The mechanisms in this Grave are not only set in this Old Locust Tree but also in those three pitch-black openings. What does this mean?"
Yang Mi fell silent. After a long while, she finally said, "I think... those three pitch-black openings might connect to three Paths of Life. Or, perhaps one of them is a Path of Death?"
"Correct." Ye Bai nodded. "But as for how these three Paths of Life were formed, I can't find any clues for now. However, that doesn't stop us from researching."
Yang Mi and Meng Ziyi nodded in agreement with Ye Bai's approach.
At this time, a ray of morning light shone in from the east, dispersing the dim and damp mist in the Tomb.
The place was filled with the faint fragrance of flowers and grass.
"Mr. Ye, which way do you think we should go now?" Meng Ziyi looked at the wall on the left and then at the wall on the right.
"The left side," Ye Bai said indifferently.
"Okay." Meng Ziyi nodded.
Then, the four of them walked toward the left.
The distance on the left was very long, and the end was nowhere in sight. But Ye Bai and the others were not panicked at all. They believed that according to the scale and layout of the Ancient Tomb, the area on the left would certainly be more than just this short distance.
Ye Bai led the way.
Yang Mi and Meng Ziyi followed behind.
Ye Bai's feet stepped on the Stone Steps, and every footprint that fell made a slight creaking sound.
However, in this environment, it sounded particularly piercing.
