245: A massive ring within a ring, lurking menacingly.
If they were to accidentally trigger some mechanism, they would only end up dragging Ye Bai down.
"The two of you, hide in the cave," Ye Bai said.
"Oh..." Yang Mi nodded guiltily. "Then where should Ziyi and I hide?"
"Pick any spot you like," Ye Bai said. "It's open here. If you're scared, just run toward the outside. Try your best not to touch any other mechanisms."
His attitude was cold and icy.
After speaking, he began to prepare the Fire Starter.
The Fire Starter sat in Ye Bai's palm, bright and scorching, burning with a faint blue light.
"Whoosh—"
He lit the charcoal.
Once the charcoal caught fire, it released a scalding heat that lashed against the wire mesh. The wire mesh instantly turned a glowing crimson.
"Hiss..." Ye Bai drew in a sharp breath.
The temperature of the wire mesh was as high as 80 degrees Celsius!
If this were to touch a living person's flesh, it would be enough to cause severe burns.
The temperature on the wire mesh continued to rise. Within two minutes, the mesh was roasted red, and its surface was sizzling with smoke.
If this continued, the wire mesh would undoubtedly snap.
Beads of sweat broke out on Ye Bai's forehead.
His face was pale as paper; he clearly couldn't hold out much longer.
"Let me lend you a hand!" Meng Ziyi suddenly stepped forward and rushed to Ye Bai's side.
She was holding a Water Gun in her hand.
"Splat—"
A jet of water shot down, dousing the flames.
The wire mesh returned to a normal temperature and solidified once more.
"Thank you!" Ye Bai said gratefully.
Meng Ziyi's pretty face flushed slightly.
Her palms had been burned, leaving them covered in bloody marks. At this moment, fresh blood flowed along the wire mesh and dripped into the bottom of the outer coffin.
The bottom of the outer coffin was filled with silt. Stained with blood, the color grew even darker.
"I'll do it!" Ye Bai said. "You sit to the side and rest first."
He took out the Fire Starter again and blew it into a flame.
The flames burned fiercely, illuminating the surroundings.
At the bottom of the outer coffin, the silt had mostly melted away, revealing the baseplate. The surface of the baseplate was coated in a layer of grease that emitted a strong, fishy stench.
Meng Ziyi covered her nose and backed far away.
Ye Bai used an Iron Rod to pry it up.
The baseplate beneath the silt was made of an iron plate, its surface covered in verdigris. When Ye Bai flipped the iron plate over, a row of silver needles immediately appeared beneath it.
These silver needles were as thick as chopsticks, and each was three inches long.
Ye Bai picked one up and flicked it gently.
The metal made a clinking sound.
"So they're made of silver. No wonder they're so hard," Ye Bai realized.
He picked up a few more; they were all silver needles.
"What are these things?" Meng Ziyi leaned in and asked.
Ye Bai didn't give her an answer.
He carefully observed the silver needles, then tapped them with the Iron Rod to confirm they were sturdy and not easily damaged.
"I'll try to see if I can smash them," Ye Bai said. "The two of you, retreat into the cave and wait for me."
He raised the Iron Rod.
The Iron Rod wasn't particularly heavy, but it still weighed around two hundred catties.
Ye Bai struck the silver needles with the Iron Rod.
"Clang, clang, clang..." A series of crisp cracks rang out, deafening to the ears.
Ye Bai felt his arms go numb, and the webbing between his thumb and forefinger throbbed with pain.
He gave up on smashing the silver needles and switched to his Dagger, which could cut through iron as if it were mud.
Cutting the silver needles with the Dagger was quite strenuous. It took Ye Bai over half an hour just to cut through one needle.
"Watch this," he said to Yang Mi and Meng Ziyi. "These silver needles aren't easy to destroy. I need your help to break them."
Yang Mi was hesitant.
She was timid and didn't want to get involved in these terrifying and dangerous matters.
"Okay!" Meng Ziyi, however, bravely stood up.
Ye Bai was slightly surprised.
"I'll help you break the silver needles," Meng Ziyi said. "If you really can restore peace to this Tomb Chamber, then all previous sins will be wiped clean."
"If not, we might be eaten by those evil spirits today. I'm not afraid; I'm willing to try."
Ye Bai was slightly stunned, and his gaze warmed a fraction.
"Alright, then I'll teach you how to break them," Ye Bai said.
Meng Ziyi nodded.
They found some dry branches, lit them, and placed them in the center of the Tomb Chamber.
Inside the Tomb Chamber, the temperature plummeted, and a bitter wind howled.
As the bonfire burned, it made popping and crackling sounds.
In the entire valley, aside from Ye Bai and Meng Ziyi, only Yang Mi remained. she huddled, clutching her arms.
Seeing this, Ye Bai told her to go to the other side.
Yang Mi shivered and walked toward the Tomb Chamber.
Meng Ziyi followed Ye Bai's method, using a Dagger to cut the silver needles.
She was extremely focused.
Sparks flew and firelight spilled everywhere.
Meng Ziyi's eyes turned bloodshot from the intense strain.
She gritted her teeth, cold sweat seeping from her forehead.
She kept working hard to cut the silver needles and finally managed to snap them all.
The sounds of "crack, crack" were clearly audible.
Yang Mi also walked over.
One by one, Ye Bai inserted the cut silver needles into the holes in the stone wall.
Each silver needle pierced into a hole in the stone wall, leaving behind a pitch-black cavity.
Both Ye Bai and Meng Ziyi breathed a sigh of relief.
"Will this stop the Yin Spirits from crawling out?" Yang Mi wiped the sweat from her forehead and asked Ye Bai in a low voice. "Will it be dangerous?"
"I can't guarantee it either," Ye Bai said. "But right now, this is the only way. We have to give it a shot."
"Mhm." Meng Ziyi nodded.
Yang Mi agreed as well.
She and Meng Ziyi sat in a corner.
Ye Bai propped the Iron Rod against the ground. The rod sank into the earth and immediately became stable.
In this way, the Iron Rod was wedged into a crack in the rock, as if it were firmly glued to the ground, impossible to pull up again.
And this cave was a massive Graveyard.
The yin-sha qi in the Graveyard was too strong; ordinary people simply couldn't withstand it.
Ye Bai didn't know how to stop it either.
He could only take a gamble.
What if this Graveyard was the seal itself?
And what if this Graveyard was a Formation?
Ye Bai clenched his fists and prayed silently, hoping he could save them.
"Rumble..." The ground shook and the mountains swayed, as if something had slammed into the iron-barred gate.
Ye Bai's heart rate instantly accelerated.
He gripped the Iron Rod, ready to engage in battle at any moment.
A "clatter, clatter" sound echoed.
The iron chains beneath their feet actually began to sway.
That Iron Cage was suddenly being pulled.
Yang Mi and Meng Ziyi were terrified.
The Iron Cage was slowly being pulled, getting closer and closer.
With a "bang," the Iron Cage crashed through the cave wall and flew out.
Yang Mi and Meng Ziyi were scared out of their wits.
Ye Bai, however, tightened his grip on the Iron Rod, his whole body tensed.
The Iron Cage landed on the ground.
Its size was roughly the same as the Iron Cage Ye Bai had just carried in.
It was empty inside; there was nothing there.
"Is there a dead thing inside?" Yang Mi was paralyzed with fear.
"Shh!" Ye Bai gestured for her to be quiet.
"Do you hear any sound?" Ye Bai asked.
Yang Mi shook her head. "No."
"Quick, hide inside the Iron Cage," Ye Bai said.
This place was eerie and unpredictable; there was no telling what was hidden inside. Running outside blindly would be extremely dangerous.
Meng Ziyi did as she was told and crawled into the Iron Cage.
Yang Mi wanted to get even closer to the Iron Cage, but Ye Bai pulled her back.
He grabbed the Iron Cage and tried to pull it back with force.
The Iron Cage didn't budge an inch.
This cave was too narrow; Ye Bai couldn't pull the Iron Cage out into a wider space.
