388: A thousand-year-old mystery: even stones can be recording cameras.
Pangzi and Yang Mi also entered one after another; seeing this empty Stone Chamber, both of their gazes fell simultaneously on Ye Bai.
Ye Bai scanned the surroundings and said, "Don't just stand there dazed; keep looking for clues."
The three of them continued forward, searching for any secrets that might be hidden within the Stone Chamber.
After searching for an unknown amount of time, Pangzi finally couldn't help but shout, "Stop, this should be the last room, right?"
Ye Bai stepped forward, staring at the huge rock in the center of the Stone Chamber, and frowned. "I keep feeling like something isn't right."
He raised his leg and kicked the giant rock hard.
Bang!
The giant rock didn't budge an inch.
"Is there a pattern missing from the ones on this stone wall?" he muttered to himself. "Could it be that this place isn't part of the Ancient Tomb's main structure?"
Pangzi asked, "Mr. Ye, what are you muttering about?"
Ye Bai ignored him and continued to observe the stone wall carefully, then pressed his head against it and listened intently.
Pangzi and Yang Mi also leaned in, holding their breath in concentration.
After a long while, they were surprised to find that Ye Bai's ears seemed to have turned into an X-ray scanner, allowing him to hear the rustling sound coming from deep within the stone wall!
"Huh? Why is it so strange?" Pangzi wondered.
Yang Mi said thoughtfully, "Did you hear that? That sound is very similar to the sound of shifting sand rolling down through the cracks in the rocks."
Ye Bai nodded, then reached out to touch the stone wall, saying, "This stone wall is very damp, and a thin layer of water stains is seeping out. The patterns on this stone wall are likely formed by the evaporation of water vapor, which is why they sound somewhat muffled."
He paused and then added, "I suspect that behind this stone wall, there should be an underground river flowing past."
"It is said that when ancient emperors built their tombs, in order to prevent anyone from excavating the Mausoleum, they specifically constructed an underground river within the stone walls to maintain the treasures inside the Mausoleum while ensuring its safety."
"Mr. Ye, your words are a bit mysterious. How could there be an underground river inside this stone wall?" Pangzi asked.
Ye Bai said, "I'm not sure either; perhaps there's some kind of mechanism inside this stone wall?"
"Well, maybe so." Pangzi scratched his head.
Yang Mi said, "Anyway, no matter what is behind this stone wall, as long as we break through it, the things inside will definitely be revealed."
As she spoke, she walked quickly toward a Stone Platform, pulled out the Dagger from her waist with a "Clack," and prepared to pry open the lid of the Stone Platform.
However, just as she gripped the Dagger and pushed it forward, a bone-chilling cold suddenly swept through her entire body. She felt cold all over, her hands and feet went numb, and even breathing became difficult!
"This... what's going on?"
"Not good, I feel a threat of death!"
Pangzi and Ye Bai also noticed this eerie situation; the two of them hurriedly retreated, staring around vigilantly.
Yang Mi's feet sank into the muddy soil.
"What's happening? How can there be water underground?"
Ye Bai shouted in a low voice, "Be careful!"
He rushed forward, grabbed Yang Mi, and led her in a rapid retreat.
Just as he moved five or six meters away from his original position, the ground suddenly cracked open. Immediately after, sharp, pointed spikes broke through the soil and shot toward the three of them.
Fortunately, Ye Bai had pulled Yang Mi back in time; otherwise, the three of them would have already been pinned to the Stone Pillars, leaving not even a skeleton behind.
"Damn it!" Pangzi cursed, drawing his gun and firing frantically at the stone wall, the bullets pouring out like rain.
Ye Bai, meanwhile, held Yang Mi and retreated like lightning.
Beneath their feet, more sharp spikes surged out once again.
Ye Bai held Yang Mi and dodged rapidly, the situation fraught with danger.
Fortunately, they were already far enough from the outer edge of the Stone Chamber, so although they were in a sorry state, they were temporarily safe.
Yang Mi leaned into Ye Bai's embrace, her delicate body trembling and her pretty face pale. "What on earth are those things!"
Ye Bai also felt a wave of palpitations.
"I don't know, but they're definitely not anything good!" he said in a heavy voice.
"Look! Are those spikes getting thicker and thicker!" Pangzi shouted.
Ye Bai followed Pangzi's gaze and immediately gasped.
At the top of those Stone Pillars, smooth and hard cones were gradually bulging out.
A strange sense of crisis rose in Ye Bai's heart.
"What's going on?" Yang Mi asked with a trembling voice. "How can there be such terrifying things here?"
Ye Bai shook his head and said, "No one knows exactly what happened. Let's find a way to escape first!"
The three of them had not run far from the Stone Chamber when they came face-to-face with a squad of Patrol Ghost Soldiers!
"Enemy attack!" the soldiers shouted, raising their guns to aim at the three of them.
A black shadow flashed across everyone's eyes, instantly weaving through the soldiers and knocking them all to the ground.
This black shadow was none other than a snake. Its mouth clamped onto several corpses, dropping them in front of Ye Bai and the others as a supplement.
Pangzi was startled and quickly crouched down, clutching his head and putting on a frightened expression.
Ye Bai helped Yang Mi up and said with a smile, "Relax, my Little Pet helped me solve the trouble."
"Pet?" Yang Mi blinked and looked at the snake, saying in surprise, "A snake?"
"Yes." Ye Bai nodded.
He hadn't thought of a name for this snake yet, so he might as well just call it Little Pet.
Little Pet twisted its neck, flicked its tongue, and then slithered deep into the cave.
Pangzi patted his chest and said, "That scared me to death; I thought it was a ghost."
Yang Mi said, "It's a snake, how could it be a ghost?"
Ye Bai said, "There are many strange things on this mountain."
During this journey, they had stopped and started many times, encountering so many different situations that it had made Ye Bai exceptionally sensitive to these Ancient Tombs.
He kept feeling that this Ancient Tomb was not simple.
"Let's keep moving forward; I hope we find a ventilation hole as soon as possible," he urged.
Pangzi nodded and said, "Alright, let's go."
The three of them continued forward. As they walked, Pangzi suddenly pointed to a corner on the left and said in surprise, "Eh? I think I see a few bricks over there!"
Ye Bai and Yang Mi looked in the direction he was pointing and indeed saw a few scattered bricks covered in dust.
Yang Mi's eyes lit up, and she cried out in joy, "I remember this seems to be the side of a wall; it should be possible to open it."
After she finished speaking, she walked over, picked up a brick, and knocked hard.
Three heavy thuds rang out.
Ye Bai and Pangzi hurried over.
Yang Mi knocked for a while longer and said, "That should be about enough."
"Try again," Ye Bai said.
"Mm." Yang Mi nodded, then picked up the brick and knocked with all her might.
Boom!
Following those three heavy thuds, the thick and solid rock wall slowly parted.
"Hahaha, as expected, there is a secret door!" Pangzi shouted excitedly.
He was the first to slip inside the secret door and vanished from sight.
