366: The story in the murals shocked the archaeological community.
"This is just like a blockbuster movie."
"Mi Mi is the best!"
Ye Bai walked up to the pinned Netherworld Beast and stabbed the white scales on its abdomen with his Dagger.
The Netherworld Beast struggled for a few moments, then stopped moving.
"Finally resolved." Ye Bai breathed a sigh of relief.
"Let's continue looking for the treasure," Meng Ziyi said impatiently.
Following the guidance of the Treasure Map, they found a secret door in a corner of the treasure vault.
Behind the secret door was a narrow Passage, its walls covered with strange Murals.
"These Murals seem to be telling a story," Yang Mi said, looking at the Murals.
The Mural displayed the majesty and prosperity of the city, while also exuding a sense of ancient vicissitude.
Ye Bai said, "I think this should be a city that once existed in China."
"Then let's hurry inside and take a look," Yang Mi said urgently.
The three of them walked into the pitch-black Passage.
Suddenly, two bursts of fire appeared ahead, illuminating the dim Passage.
"They're Candles. Could there be some ancient ruins or documents inside?" Meng Ziyi said joyfully.
"Don't touch the Candles recklessly; they go out easily," Ye Bai reminded her.
The three approached the fire and saw a row of wooden boxes on the ground, all with Paper Talismans attached.
"So it's here; there must be a secret inside!"
Yang Mi picked up a Wooden Box and opened it, finding several antiques and jewels inside.
"I didn't expect it to be here; these are all priceless treasures," Meng Ziyi's eyes sparkled.
"Don't touch anything yet. It's safe here; let's wait until I figure out what this place is first." Ye Bai looked around vigilantly, then crouched down to examine the antiques.
He discovered that everything here had been carefully wiped clean, with no dust or impurities, and a fragrance wafted from them.
This was Incense!
All these antiques carried a faint fragrance; smelling it for long enough could make one feel mentally refreshed.
"I know, this must be a Tomb!" Meng Ziyi said excitedly.
Ye Bai looked up at the ceiling and sighed, "Your train of thought is too erratic."
"If this isn't a Tomb, then where is it? It can't be an ancient emperor's Mausoleum, can it?" Meng Ziyi said with a grin.
Ye Bai shook his head and pondered, "Regardless of whose Tomb it is, there are surely many shocking things buried here. I reckon if we dig these things up and sell them, it would be enough to buy the entire Jiangbei Province."
"That's so cool!" Hearing this, a look of longing appeared on Meng Ziyi's face.
"Let's go, let's move it out," Ye Bai said as he went to move the Wooden Box.
Suddenly, Meng Ziyi stopped him: "Wait, blow out the Candle first."
Ye Bai stopped and extinguished the Candle.
"Alright, we can move it now," Meng Ziyi smiled.
She walked at the very front, but as soon as her hand touched the lid of the Wooden Box, her face instantly changed color, and she screamed, backing away several steps.
"What happened?" Ye Bai asked with a frown.
"A coffin!"
Meng Ziyi was terrified, pointing at the bottom of the Wooden Box.
Ye Bai looked down and indeed saw a massive Bronze coffin lying across the bottom of the Wooden Box. The surface of the outer coffin was carved with complex and eerie patterns, and several luminous pearls were embedded in it, emitting a ghostly blue light.
"Is this... a Bronze coffin?" Ye Bai muttered to himself.
"That's right, it's the legendary Bronze coffin," Yang Mi said; she had already recognized the name of this outer coffin.
"Why would a Bronze coffin appear here?" Meng Ziyi found it unbelievable; she felt things were spiraling out of control.
"Since we're here, we might as well make the best of it. Since we can't escape this cave anyway, we might as well go for broke and give it a desperate try," Yang Mi said firmly.
"Exactly, it's just a coffin. Let's move it together and see how heavy this coffin is!"
Ye Bai said with a smile, "Everyone, be careful. This outer coffin is a bit sinister."
Meng Ziyi nodded, picked up a knife, and swung it at the outer coffin, only to find that the blade could not pierce its skin.
"This... this is cast from bronze?!" Meng Ziyi said in surprise.
"Is this cast from bronze?" Yang Mi asked.
Ye Bai said, "This kind of outer coffin should be considered a Bronze coffin, but we have to find a way to open it."
He walked around the outer coffin twice and then tapped on its left side.
There was a 'thud' sound, as if he were tapping on a solid iron plate.
"There must be a hollow space underneath."
After speaking, Ye Bai pulled a Short Sword from his robe and stabbed it in fiercely.
"Ugh!"
Ye Bai let out a muffled groan; his right arm, which held the Short Sword, was in immense pain.
He pulled out the broken Short Sword and looked at the wound; blood was gushing out.
"Quick, help me stop the bleeding," Ye Bai said.
Yang Mi and Meng Ziyi hurriedly helped stop the bleeding and bandaged the wound.
Ye Bai took a deep breath, letting the blood cool down, and the pain eased slightly.
"I suspect the hollow space under this Bronze coffin might be a mechanism; if we open it, we can leave this place," Ye Bai analyzed.
They shifted their gaze to the bronze vessels at the bottom of the outer coffin.
"What are all these?" Meng Ziyi exclaimed.
"They must be burial objects; some member of the imperial family must be buried here."
Yang Mi flipped through them casually and said, "Although there are quite a few things in here, there's nothing special, unless there's a treasure inside."
"Impossible, these things have long since weathered and corroded almost completely; there's no value left," Ye Bai countered.
Meng Ziyi said, "But these things really are quite valuable. Should we pack them all up?"
Yang Mi said, "No, don't touch these things yet. What if there's a trap inside? Let's observe for a while and take them out when there's danger."
Meng Ziyi nodded.
"Then let's put them away for now and take them when there's danger," Yang Mi said.
Meng Ziyi and Ye Bai worked together to move the Wooden Box, the outer coffin, and the items inside the box into their backpacks.
Yang Mi said, "Let's go, we should retreat first."
The three of them climbed up along the Passage.
"Eh? There's a Passage here?" Ye Bai said in surprise.
"No wonder we couldn't find the exit just now; there was a secret Passage leading here," Meng Ziyi said excitedly.
Ye Bai and the others climbed up the Passage and found an iron door blocking their way at the end.
Ye Bai easily cut the chain with his Short Sword, pulled open the iron door, and went inside to find another even wider mountain interior space.
This mountain interior space was a hundred meters long and wide, with countless Stone Chambers on the walls. The chambers were filled with all kinds of strange Stone Pillars and many other odd items.
"Wow! So many treasures!"
Looking at these treasures, Meng Ziyi was stunned.
Yang Mi was also dazed; she hadn't expected so many treasures to be hidden here.
"Don't be happy too soon. We are currently inside an Ancient Tomb; the danger still exists."
Yang Mi said with a frown.
Meng Ziyi agreed, "Right! I suggest we explore first and find a clue to leave this place."
