227: Corpse Drivers, Matrix of Ancient Corpses
"It's fine. I will try my best to avoid dangerous areas," Ye Bai reassured them.
Meng Ziyi insisted, "No, Teacher! We'll go together!"
Yang Mi also said, "Right, we'll go together!"
Ye Bai hesitated for a moment before agreeing, but he still instructed them, "Remember, if you spot danger, retreat immediately. Understood?"
The two women nodded quickly.
Night fell.
Ye Bai led them, quietly climbing up to the Cliff Summit. Looking out from where they stood, he vaguely saw the outline of the Tombstone.
He planned to cross the Cliff from here to enter the Tomb.
The three supported each other, climbing laboriously step by step, finally succeeding in reaching the Tombstone.
This Tombstone was about twenty meters high, pitch black and chilling.
In front of the Tombstone was a massive, thick Stone Door.
Meng Ziyi swallowed, trembling, "T-Teacher, are we really going in?"
Ye Bai said, "This is the only way to save ourselves."
Meng Ziyi mustered her courage and pushed open the Stone Door.
The moment the Stone Door opened, Ye Bai keenly heard a strange, hoarse sound.
The Stone Door slowly opened, and a decaying stench rushed out. Ye Bai frowned slightly and raised his hand to shield Yang Mi and Meng Ziyi.
"Be careful, we don't know what dangers are inside," Ye Bai whispered.
Yang Mi tightly gripped the corner of Ye Bai's clothes, her voice trembling as she said, "Teacher, I'm so scared..."
Meng Ziyi was also pale, but she forced herself to sound calm, saying, "Don't be afraid, Teacher is here."
Ye Bai glanced at them helplessly, secretly scoffing internally, "These two Female Celebrities are really timid, but it's understandable. Anyone would be scared in a place like this."
The three cautiously walked through the Stone Door. Inside was a dark Passage. Strange patterns and inscriptions were carved on the walls on both sides of the Passage, emanating a mysterious aura.
Ye Bai stopped and carefully observed the patterns and inscriptions on the wall. Yang Mi and Meng Ziyi stood nervously behind him, barely daring to breathe.
"These patterns and inscriptions should be some kind of ancient Rune, possibly related to the secrets of this Ancient Tomb," Ye Bai said softly.
"Teacher, what should we do now?" Meng Ziyi asked.
Ye Bai thought for a moment and said, "Let's walk forward first and see if there are any other clues."
The three continued walking forward. The Passage grew narrower, and the atmosphere became increasingly tense. Suddenly, Yang Mi slipped and nearly fell. Ye Bai reacted quickly and immediately supported her.
"Be careful!" Ye Bai said.
Yang Mi's face flushed red, and she said apologetically, "Thank you, Teacher."
Seeing this, Meng Ziyi teased, "Yang Mi, were you being intentional? Trying to get Teacher to be a hero saving the beauty?"
Yang Mi glared at Meng Ziyi and said, "Don't talk nonsense!"
Ye Bai shook his head helplessly and continued walking. After a while, they arrived at a Fork in the Road. There were three Passages at the intersection, and they didn't know which one to take.
Ye Bai squatted down, carefully observing the marks on the ground. Yang Mi and Meng Ziyi also leaned in curiously.
"Teacher, what are you looking at?" Meng Ziyi asked.
Ye Bai pointed to some shallow footprints on the ground and said, "These footprints must have been left by someone who walked here before. We can follow these footprints and see if we can find a way out."
Yang Mi worriedly asked, "What if it's a trap?"
Ye Bai said, "There's no other way right now; we can only try."
The three followed the footprints into one of the Passages. The Passage was filled with a pungent, sickening odor.
"What is that smell? It's awful," Meng Ziyi said, covering her nose.
Ye Bai also frowned and said, "This might be Poison Gas from the Ancient Tomb. Everyone be careful, and try not to breathe too deeply."
They walked forward cautiously, when they suddenly heard a strange sound. The sound seemed to come from far away, yet also right beside them, sending chills down their spines.
"What is that sound?" Yang Mi asked, terrified.
Ye Bai stopped and listened intently. The sound grew clearer, like someone weeping or whispering.
"This might be the sound emitted by a Vengeful Spirit in the Ancient Tomb," Ye Bai said.
"Vengeful Spirit?" Meng Ziyi turned pale with fright. "What should we do?"
Ye Bai calmly said, "Don't panic. Vengeful Spirits generally don't attack people actively. As long as we don't provoke them, we should be fine."
The three continued forward, and the sound gradually disappeared. They sighed in relief and continued looking for a way out. After walking for a while, they arrived at a room. The room was filled with ancient artifacts and cultural relics, emitting a mysterious aura.
Ye Bai carefully examined the items in the room, hoping to find some useful clues. Yang Mi and Meng Ziyi looked around curiously.
"Teacher, what are all these things used for?" Meng Ziyi asked.
Ye Bai said, "These should be the Funerary Objects from the Ancient Tomb, likely related to the Tomb Owner's identity and status."
Yang Mi picked up an exquisite jade pendant and said, "This jade pendant is so beautiful."
Ye Bai quickly stopped her, saying, "Don't touch these things randomly. They might trigger a mechanism."
Yang Mi was startled and quickly put down the jade pendant. Just then, a violent tremor suddenly shook the room. The three looked around in terror, unsure what was happening.
"What's going on?" Meng Ziyi asked.
Ye Bai's expression was grave. "We might have triggered a mechanism. Everyone be careful!"
As soon as he finished speaking, countless Sharp Arrows suddenly shot out from the walls of the room. Ye Bai reacted instantly, pulling Yang Mi and Meng Ziyi to hide in a corner. The Sharp Arrows flew past their bodies, terrifying them.
"That was close!" Meng Ziyi said, still shaken.
Ye Bai said, "It's too dangerous here. We must leave quickly."
The three cautiously navigated past the Sharp Arrows and exited the room. As they continued forward, the atmosphere in the Passage grew tenser. Suddenly, they heard footsteps. The footsteps grew closer, sending shivers down their backs.
"Someone's coming!" Yang Mi cried out in terror.
Ye Bai stopped and listened intently. The footsteps became clearer, sounding like a group of people walking toward them.
"What should we do?" Meng Ziyi asked.
Ye Bai calmly said, "Let's find a place to hide first and observe the situation."
The three hid in a corner, nervously watching the end of the Passage. Before long, a group of people wearing ancient costumes walked over. Their faces were pale, their eyes vacant, like walking dead without souls.
"Who are those people?" Meng Ziyi asked in horror.
Ye Bai said, "These might be the Guards of the Ancient Tomb, controlled by some kind of power. We shouldn't alert them. Let's wait until they pass."
