335: Folk tales, yet one cannot help but believe them.
As she walked, she suddenly heard a rustling sound coming from ahead.
"Who's there!" she screamed instinctively. Immediately after, Ye Bai rushed over and pulled her into his embrace.
"Quiet! Don't shout! Something is coming."
Hearing him say this, Yang Mi became even more panicked. She tightly hugged Ye Bai's arm and trembled, "What is it? Ye Bai, I'm so scared."
Ye Bai put his index finger to his lips, signaling her to be quiet, his eyes alertly staring into the darkness ahead.
The rustling sound grew closer and closer, as if countless claws were crawling on the ground. The viewers in the Live Stream Room also heard this eerie sound, and the bullet comments scrolled frantically.
"Holy crap, what's going on? I feel like something big is about to happen!"
"Streamer, be careful! Protect Mi Mi and Ziyi!"
"Could this be a Corpse? This is too terrifying!"
Ye Bai lowered his voice and said to Yang Mi, "Don't be afraid, I'm here. Take the entrenching shovel and be ready to defend yourself." Yang Mi tremblingly took the entrenching shovel, her eyes not daring to leave the front for a second.
Suddenly, pairs of green eyes appeared in the darkness, flickering like ghost fires. As the eyes drew closer, everyone could see clearly: it was a pack of white-furred monsters. They looked like wolves but had human faces, and low howls came from their mouths.
"White Jiang Wolves!" Ye Bai exclaimed. "These are evil spirits from folklore that guard Ancient Tombs, condensed from resentment and yin energy."
Meng Ziyi heard Ye Bai's words from behind and screamed in terror. The Live Stream Room instantly exploded.
"My god, White Jiang Wolves? This is too horrific!"
"Streamer, run! Forget about the treasures!"
Ye Bai picked up the peach wood sword at his waist. He had accidentally obtained this in an ancient Taoist tomb before; it was said to have the effect of warding off evil.
He took a step forward, blocking the way in front of Yang Mi and Meng Ziyi, and shouted to them, "Run back quickly! Find a safe place to hide!"
"Then what about you?" Meng Ziyi asked, crying.
"Don't worry about me, just go!"
Ye Bai gave a loud shout and charged toward the White Jiang Wolves.
As he brandished the peach wood sword, it emitted a faint golden light. Every swing could repel several White Jiang Wolves, but there were too many of them, and they soon surrounded him again.
Yang Mi pulled Meng Ziyi and ran back, shouting as she ran, "Ye Bai, you must stay alive!"
Ye Bai fought fiercely with the White Jiang Wolves and actually suffered several injuries on his body.
He secretly groaned in his heart; these White Jiang Wolves were even more formidable than he had imagined.
Just then, he suddenly remembered a method for dealing with evil spirits recorded in an Ancient Book—using blood as a medium to activate an evil-suppressing formation in the Ancient Tomb.
He gritted his teeth, used a Dagger to cut his palm, and sprinkled fresh blood on the ground while chanting incantations.
In an instant, golden patterns appeared on the ground, shining brightly. The White Jiang Wolves seemed to sense a threat and retreated one after another.
But they did not leave; instead, they lingered at the edge of the formation, watching like tigers eyeing their prey.
Yang Mi and Meng Ziyi hid behind a stone coffin, nervously watching the live stream screen.
"Mi Mi, do you think Ye Bai can do it?" Meng Ziyi's face was full of worry.
"He definitely can. He's so capable."
Although Yang Mi said this, her voice couldn't stop trembling.
The viewers in the Live Stream Room were also on edge.
"Streamer, hang in there! We're all praying for you!"
"This is so intense, but I really hope they all make it out safely."
While the White Jiang Wolves were trapped by the formation, Ye Bai quickly looked for a way to leave.
He discovered a strange mural on the nearby wall. In the painting was an old man holding a divination compass, with the needle pointing in a certain direction, as if guiding something.
"Could this be a hint for the exit?" Ye Bai's heart stirred. He walked in the direction pointed by the divination compass needle and found a hidden Stone Door, which was covered in runes.
He carefully studied the runes, recalling content he had once seen in an old book of folk supernatural tales. These runes seemed to be related to the Five Elements and Eight Trigrams.
Ye Bai tried to touch the runes according to the cycle of the Five Elements, and the Stone Door slowly opened.
He stepped inside the Stone Door.
Behind the Stone Door was actually another Passage. bronze lamps were hung all around, their wicks burning brightly. The Passage was bottomless, the air damp and carrying a rotten, musty smell.
He cautiously gripped his weapon and walked forward along the Passage. This road was winding, and he didn't know where the end was.
Ye Bai kept walking forward and eventually came to a circular altar. The altar towered high into the clouds, surrounded by many spirit tablets, with seats arranged in neat, dense rows.
And in the center, two giant coffins were placed.
Ye Bai stood before the altar, looking at the two coffins. After a long silence, he slowly stepped toward them.
When he took the first step, the entire world suddenly shook violently. Then, sand and dust filled the sky, obscuring all the stars and the moon.
Ye Bai squinted his eyes and adjusted for a moment before he could see the scene in front of him clearly.
He was standing on a narrow mountain path. It was pitch black all around, and he couldn't see his own hand in front of his face. Only a winding path stretched into the distance.
"Is this the legendary Yellow Springs Road?" Ye Bai murmured. He tried to use his flashlight to illuminate his feet, but the beam of light couldn't penetrate the thick snow at all; instead, the cold made him pull his hand back.
Not giving up, he stomped his feet hard, but the result was the same.
Now, even he was bewildered.
System: "Host, this is the trial you wanted."
Ye Bai: "..."
At this moment, a series of low moans suddenly came from his ear, each one desolate and hair-raising.
This sound did not belong to any of his auditory ranges; he couldn't tell where the sound was coming from.
He frowned and followed the sound. After walking for a long while, he finally stopped.
Ahead was a huge Stone Door. Intricate and mysterious runes were carved on it, emitting a dazzling light.
Ye Bai went around to the left side of the Stone Door and found a groove on it, just enough to insert a key.
He pulled out his peach wood sword, gently pried the latch, and pushed open the Stone Door.
"Rumble—"
The Stone Door opened, revealing the scene inside.
Ye Bai's eyes widened in surprise. He saw that inside the Stone Door was actually a Tomb Chamber, an ancient building.
The Tomb Chamber was very spacious, filled with gold and silver treasures, various precious antiques, and even many lost medical texts and elixirs.
"Oh my god! Could this be an imperial tomb?" A viewer couldn't help but exclaim.
"The person above hit the nail on the head," someone replied.
"Holy crap! The Streamer is amazing. Just digging a random grave and he encounters an imperial tomb?"
"It doesn't look like an imperial tomb to me; it looks more like a Tomb Robber's grave."
Ye Bai was dumbfounded. This Ancient Tomb was grand in scale, filled with splendor and jewels. It was so luxurious it was jaw-dropping; there was probably no less than several hundred tons of gold inside.
Suddenly, a burst of eerie laughter came from the depths of the Tomb Chamber. Ye Bai turned around, only to find that the Stone Door of the Tomb Chamber behind him no longer existed. This Mausoleum seemed to have vanished into thin air.
