336: Exorcist's Notes: Everyone says that spirits can't exist after the founding of the People's Republic of China.
A strong sense of crisis surged in his heart. He retreated abruptly, crossing his arms in front of his chest for protection.
Just then, a withered ghost claw grabbed Ye Bai's ankle, making it impossible for him to escape no matter how much he struggled.
"Ugh!" A foul-smelling liquid splashed onto Ye Bai's face, and a thick stench of death assailed his nostrils.
A female ghost covered in green hair emerged from the shadows. Her mouth was split wide, her eye sockets were sunken, and thick saliva dripped from the corners of her mouth. Her expression was hideous and distorted, like a vengeful spirit crawling out of hell.
"Holy crap, isn't this a Corpse?"
"I think it looks like a Zombie."
"Get lost, upstairs! Corpses have green hair, while Zombies have gray hair, okay!"
The female ghost's grip was incredibly strong, clutching Ye Bai so hard he could barely breathe.
The female ghost bared her fangs and brandished her claws, aiming for his neck to bite down.
In the nick of time, Ye Bai fiercely shook off the female ghost's restraint and simultaneously swung his sword, ruthlessly slicing her in half at the waist. With a cry of pain, the female ghost transformed into a wisp of soul and dissipated.
"So weak?" Ye Bai was momentarily stunned.
After the female ghost vanished, the entire Mausoleum returned to silence once more.
He looked around and found nothing else besides an outer coffin.
He approached the outer coffin, intending to investigate it.
At that moment, the Coffin Lid shook slightly. Then, it suddenly flipped open, and a pale hand reached out.
Ye Bai immediately took a step back.
That hand closed back onto the coffin and didn't move again.
Ye Bai breathed a sigh of relief.
It seemed this Zombie was already dead.
"Click." With a crisp sound, the Coffin Lid closed again. The entire Tomb Chamber turned back into something like a primeval forest—devoid of movement and deathly silent.
Ye Bai continued forward. Every so often, he would encounter a Zombie, all of which he subdued in a single move and tossed into his storage ring.
Walking and stopping like this, about three hours passed before Ye Bai arrived in front of a Stone Platform.
There was an Oil Lamp on the Stone Platform, its flame flickering. Ye Bai took out a Dagger, sliced his index finger, and smeared blood onto the Candle. Instantly, a blood-red film covered the Oil Lamp.
Ye Bai closed his eyes, and the contents of that "Exorcist's Notebook" surfaced in his mind.
[This is an ancient, long-standing Ancient Tomb. Its history is even older than our nation's history. Many magical Restrictions have been set within the Tomb. It is said that the master of the Tomb was a descendant of an Exorcist Clan, skilled in using poison, raising Gu, and summoning Spiritual Ghosts.]
"Summoning Ghost Beasts?!"
Ye Bai's heart rate suddenly accelerated. He remembered seeing some information about Zombies online. Zombies could indeed summon Spiritual Ghosts to assist in battle through specific means, but the requirements were extremely harsh; one must possess formidable mental strength.
Ye Bai took a deep breath, concentrating his spirit to the limit. Simultaneously, he recited the Incantation recorded in the "Exorcist's Notebook" and smeared a drop of fresh blood onto the Candle.
In an instant, a strange ripple spread out, and beads of sweat faintly broke out on Ye Bai's forehead. After a while, Ye Bai opened his eyes.
He stared at the Candle in front of him. He saw the flame flicker once and go out, but in the next second, it ignited again, burning brighter and brighter.
Ye Bai: "!!!"
What the hell kind of operation is this?
Just as he was wondering, the Candle's flame suddenly shot up over a meter high, illuminating everything around him.
Only then did Ye Bai realize that a circle of Iron Chains had been erected around him at some point. The Iron Chains were a dark gold color, winding around several coffins. They were also carved with many strange symbols and totems, giving off an oppressive sense of dread.
What on earth is hidden here?
Ye Bai hesitated for a moment, then walked toward the Iron Chains. Just then, a cold wind suddenly blew, making Ye Bai unstable on his feet and causing him to stumble several times.
Ye Bai scanned the surroundings warily. Suddenly, he felt a chill down his spine; something was staring at him.
He quickly looked down, only to see a hand as pale as paper resting on the edge of a coffin in the darkness.
Ye Bai's heart tightened, and he spun around abruptly.
The coffin behind him had already opened, and a head was slowly rising. The skin on this head was purplish-blue and covered in fine scales. The pupils glinted with a green light, and a cruel sneer hung on the corners of the mouth.
"Zombie..."
Ye Bai raised an eyebrow in surprise and quickly backed away.
Just then, that Zombie suddenly jumped up, waving its sharp claws to attack Ye Bai.
With a dodge, Ye Bai easily circled around it.
The Zombie's strike failed, and it lunged again. Ye Bai quickly drew his sword to resist, barely blocking the offensive.
But the Zombie had likely stayed in the Ancient Tomb for too long and hadn't expected to encounter such a tough opponent right upon coming out. After several failed sneak attacks, it simply gave up and stubbornly clung to Ye Bai's body.
Ye Bai roared, desperately hacking at the Zombie with his sword, forcibly tearing the Zombie off himself.
The Zombie let out a narrow-minded howl; the sound was truly noisy.
Speechless, Ye Bai punched the Zombie in the abdomen and took the opportunity to rush toward the coffin.
The Coffin Lid hadn't been replaced yet. Ye Bai leaped up, kicked the Coffin Lid over, and jumped inside.
Ye Bai crawled into the coffin, where a cold, hard Corpse lay.
This Corpse was already half-rotted, emitting a nauseating, sour stench of decay. Ye Bai almost threw up the moment he entered. However, he quickly adapted, as the Corpse had long since lost its warmth.
"Could the Corpse in this coffin be the master of the Tomb?"
Ye Bai sat up, using the faint light from the Oil Lamp to examine the Corpse in the coffin.
This Corpse appeared to be quite old, with gray hair and clothes that were rotted beyond repair. The exposed skin was a bluish-gray color.
It was covered in crisscrossing lines, like some kind of runes or patterns. His face was well-preserved, except for the eye sockets which had rotted away, leaving only two deep black holes that looked like eyeballs. This appearance was extremely terrifying.
The Corpse was thin, wearing a loose black robe, with patches of blackish stains exposed on the arms and ankles.
"What do these tattoos mean? Could they be related to the martial arts I've studied?"
Ye Bai frowned and scrutinized them closely.
Suddenly, his gaze fell on the Corpse's left shoulder, where a pattern was actually embroidered. Ye Bai leaned in; the pattern was a mass of eerie black mist that looked somewhat like the shape of a creature.
"This is... a Ghost-Faced Bat?!"
This pattern was indeed a Ghost-Faced Bat!
Although the Ghost-Faced Bat is a creature of the Ghost Realm, because its form is very strange, it has always been sought after by various realms. In the world of cultivation, there are even sects specifically dedicated to breeding Ghost-Faced Bats.
"Who exactly is this Corpse? How can he have a Ghost-Faced Bat on him? Moreover, this Ghost-Faced Bat seems to be quite powerful."
A strong sense of crisis arose in Ye Bai's heart. This old man was definitely not simple. His death certainly wasn't simple either.
