225: A terrifying experience in the underground palace—this guy really came at the right time!

Vengeful Spirits are even more dangerous than Fierce Ghosts. Because of their heavy obsessions, they often transform into various hideous and terrifying forms. Some Vengeful Spirits will even attack humans who intrude into the palace, leading to their deaths.

“Let's run quickly,” Meng Ziyi said. “These ghosts are so terrifying!”

“Don't run blindly!”

Ye Bai said in a deep voice, “If we run, we'll attract the attention of the Vengeful Spirits, and then we won't be able to leave!”

Meng Ziyi bit her lip and suppressed the fear in her heart: “What do you want to do?”

“You guys stay here, I'll go lure the Vengeful Spirits away.” After saying that, he picked up the Iron Pipe nearby and rushed forward.

“Hey, you can't!” Meng Ziyi shouted in terror.

Ye Bai moved forward without looking back, swinging the Iron Pipe and striking as he went.

He rushed all the way to where the Vengeful Spirits were concentrated before stopping.

At this moment, he was surrounded by over a dozen Vengeful Spirits. Their clothes were tattered, and their faces were bruised and purple, as if scorched by fire. Their bodies were ethereal and hazy; they were clearly Fierce Ghosts.

Their eyes were a grayish-brown, like the eyeballs of hungry ghosts, flickering with an eerie green light.

They opened their fanged mouths, their greedy and thirsty gazes locked onto Ye Bai, and they pounced toward him with a ferocious roar!

Ye Bai took a deep breath and raised the Iron Pipe.

“Bang—”

With the sound of whistling wind, the Iron Pipe slammed heavily onto a Vengeful Spirit's head. Immediately, a crisp 'puchi' sound was heard as the Vengeful Spirit was flattened and turned into flying ash... Accompanied by muffled groans, in just a few seconds, Ye Bai used the Iron Pipe to kill five or six Vengeful Spirits.

“Waaah—” The remaining Vengeful Spirits shrieked sharply, turned, and fled into the distance, disappearing into the darkness in the blink of an eye.

Ye Bai breathed a sigh of relief and slumped onto the ground.

“Why are there so many of these things?” Yang Mi wiped the sweat from her forehead. “They’re so disgusting...”

Ye Bai said with a bitter smile, “This is a long Underground River, and there are many corpses floating on the surface. These Vengeful Spirits survive by devouring these bodies. Now that we've intruded into their territory, they naturally won't let us go, so they chased after us.”

“What on earth should we do about these ghostly things?” Meng Ziyi asked worriedly.

“I don't know either...” Ye Bai sighed. “This place is a Haunted House where countless lonely souls and wild ghosts have been buried; the number of Vengeful Spirits is extremely high. I guess there must be more than a hundred of them, maybe even more.”

“A hundred?” Meng Ziyi gasped. “Doesn't that mean we'd have to kill a thousand people for it to be enough!”

“Yes, so they are very terrifying.” As Ye Bai spoke, his expression became increasingly solemn. “Moreover, they have no fixed form. Not only can they hide their presence, but they also possess all sorts of strange and unpredictable spells. I only killed a few ordinary Vengeful Spirits; there are even more terrifying things lingering nearby.”

Meng Ziyi's expression grew more desperate: “These Vengeful Spirits are too scary! If they are allowed to stay here, the entire Underground Palace will be finished!”

Yang Mi's face was pale: “Then what do we do...”

Ye Bai pondered for a moment and said, “These Vengeful Spirits are formed from a buildup of resentment and corpses. We need to find the source of the resentment and destroy the bodies or spirits there.”

“But where should we go?” Yang Mi looked around blankly, unable to find any way out at all.

“Don't worry, I'll find a way.”

...Ye Bai searched for a way out while warily observing the surrounding environment.

At that moment, the grass ahead suddenly swayed slightly.

Ye Bai frowned, staring at the spot.

“Who's there?” he barked.

The swaying grew more intense until finally, a dark object emerged from the grass.

Ye Bai narrowed his eyes and looked closely; it was actually a Female Corpse!

The Female Corpse wore a white dress, her skin was snowy white, her facial muscles were stiff, and her lips were tightly shut. There was a circle of bloodstains around her neck, looking like she had been strangled.

Ye Bai's eyes suddenly widened, and he immediately gripped the Iron Rod.

The next second, the Female Corpse suddenly jumped up and pounced toward him!

Ye Bai was prepared and sent her flying with a sweeping kick!

With a 'thud', the Female Corpse hit the ground, struggled twice, and then stopped moving. Ye Bai saw that her abdomen was torn open, and her intestines were spilled all over the ground.

Ye Bai frowned and flipped her over, preparing to examine her wounds. At that moment, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed another patch of grass swaying. He immediately raised the Iron Rod and smashed it down fiercely!

This time, he used all his strength. The Iron Rod smashed into the grass, splashing up countless bits of earth. Simultaneously, an angry wail came from the grass, followed by a figure stumbling out—its body was completely rotten, with only half a head exposed.

Ye Bai didn't hesitate to swing the Iron Pipe and smash it down, instantly bursting its head.

“Bang!” Brain matter sprayed out, and a thick, fishy stench was nauseating... This series of actions took place in just a few minutes. By the time Yang Mi and Meng Ziyi came to their senses, the ground was littered with rotting skeletons and fragmented heads.

Looking at the scene on the ground, their faces turned deathly pale.

Ye Bai wiped his filth-covered fingers and brought them to his nose to sniff, immediately feeling extremely disgusted. He stood up and said seriously, “Leave here quickly. I suspect these bodies were left behind after being gnawed clean by Vengeful Spirits.”

They hurriedly ran back.

But after running just a few steps, Meng Ziyi suddenly clutched her stomach and began to groan in pain.

“Meng Ziyi, what's wrong?” Ye Bai quickly supported her.

Yang Mi was frightened out of her wits and said urgently, “Did... did you eat something wrong?”

“I... I'm fine...” Meng Ziyi panted in distress and said with difficulty, “It should just be diarrhea...”

Ye Bai: “...” This guy really picked a time to have diarrhea.

Yang Mi said anxiously, “Just bear with it a bit longer. We'll be at the Village soon, and we'll find a clinic to check you out.”

“Mm...” Meng Ziyi nodded in agreement.

Ye Bai curled his lips helplessly.

The three continued running toward the Village. Suddenly, Ye Bai paused and looked up at the sky.

The horizon was covered in dense dark clouds, the wind was raging, and it was grim and terrifying. A violent aura enveloped the sky.

“Wha-what's going on?” Meng Ziyi trembled. “It's so cold here... I... I feel like all my pores are bursting open.”

“Not only that.” Yang Mi's face was pale, and her voice trembled too. “I feel like something has crawled onto my back.”

“Don't talk nonsense,” Ye Bai said. “It's just the sound of the wind blowing through the branches.”

“...But I definitely heard it.” Yang Mi's tone was very strange. “And that feeling is really intense...”

Ye Bai frowned; he had heard it too.

But he didn't believe that terrifying feeling was real because he had never encountered such a scene before.

“Watch out!” Meng Ziyi cried out. “Those ghostly things... they're above us!”

As the words fell, a shrill wail echoed in their ears, and a distorted male face fell from the air, lunging straight for Meng Ziyi's head.
