205: Yang Dian: I really deserve to die...

Evening, Fuzhou.

Changle Airport.

As the plane slowly came to a stop on the runway and the cabin door opened, Yang Dian, holding a little lamb doll, stood up from his seat.

To be honest, he still hadn't figured out why he subconsciously took the little lamb doll out of his spatial ring when he left the Walled City in Chengdu, which surrounded the spatial node.

'Perhaps it's some inexplicable, ineffable sense of ritual?'

With thoughts swirling, Yang Dian politely declined the note offered by the flight attendant and exited the airport through a special channel, immediately spotting the familiar Cadillac outside.

Opening the car door and sitting in the passenger seat, Yang Dian glanced at Shi Sheng, who was wearing sunglasses and leaning back in the driver's seat, looking incredibly suave:

"Brother Shi, your injury is healed? Looking good!"

"Nothing unexpected happened after you recovered, right?"

Shi Sheng patted himself:

"Brother Shi is doing great, his body is solid."

"Changing foot massage places every day, ordering three masseuses for three hours—you can't get any more comfortable than that."

Saying that, he started the car and stepped on the gas:

"Shall I treat you to a welcome dinner?"

Yang Dian couldn't help but twitch his mouth as he saw the car's display screen automatically navigate to Hong Man after Shi Sheng's words.

"No need for that," he patted the little lamb doll on his lap.

"I still have something to deliver."

Shi Sheng, taking advantage of a red light, glanced at the doll on Yang Dian's lap, a playful smile appearing on his face:

"What a cute little doll."

"Your sister only likes big guys like dinosaurs and whales, so it's probably not for her."

"Which girl is it for?"

Yang Dian shot him a sidelong glance:

"It's for the Director's daughter."

Shi Sheng fell silent, the smile instantly vanishing from his face:

"Tongtong?"

"You're not that meticulous a person, so why would you think of bringing her a doll?"

"I ran into the Director," Yang Dian had no intention of hiding it.

"The Director asked me to bring it to her."

"Is the Director doing well?" Clearly, Shi Sheng also knew about Wang Wu's situation.

"Being able to communicate with you means he's recovering well?"

Thinking of Wang Wu's state when he left, Yang Dian nodded:

"He should be doing quite well."

"But he won't be back for a while."

After replying, Yang Dian changed the subject:

"Let's not talk about that."

"I heard Tongtong really likes little lambs?"

"Should we find a live, cute little lamb for her as a playmate?"

Shi Sheng frowned and tapped his head:

"The smell of sheep is still too strong, and they have a lot of fur. Children will hug things they like all day..."

After giving two reasons, he sighed again:

"After the Director left, that little girl Tongtong has been down in the dumps. I'm really afraid she'll get sick if she keeps this up. Finding her a playmate would be good."

…The Cadillac weaved through streets and alleys, and in a short while, it arrived outside an older residential complex.

As soon as the car parked in a spot, several elderly people sitting on stone benches in the complex watched its arrival.

Seeing that the people getting out were Yang Dian and Shi Sheng, the elders' faces broke into smiles:

"It's Little Shi and Little Yang."

"Coming to see Ling Ling and Tongtong again?"

After a brief chat, one of the elders' gazes fell on the little lamb doll in Yang Dian's hand:

"Why did you only bring one doll?"

Yang Dian and Shi Sheng paused their steps, then exchanged glances.

The two grown men hadn't really thought that they were going to see two little girls.

Although Lin Mo's daughter, Lin Ling, was already 16, in their eyes, she was still no different from a little girl.

Realizing they couldn't show favoritism, the two turned and walked towards the car:

"Grandma Wang, thank you for reminding us, otherwise we would have really made a mistake..."

In a short while, Yang Dian and Shi Sheng, each holding a box, walked into the complex again.

Looking at the little lamb doll in Yang Dian's arms and the little bear doll in Shi Sheng's arms, Wang Gui Fang finally smiled:

"That's more like it."

"Although those two little girls, Ling Ling and Tongtong, are sensible and wouldn't throw a tantrum just because one has a gift and the other doesn't."

"But as adults, we should always be more thoughtful."

Yang Dian nodded earnestly, adopting a receptive demeanor:

"Grandma Wang, you're right. We truly weren't thoughtful enough just now."

"That's why I say, we should learn more about the details of life experience from knowledgeable elders like you."

A compliment made Wang Gui Fang beam with joy:

"Look at what you're saying, child. Where do we get so much life experience? It's just that we're old, and we pay more attention to these small details..."

After a brief exchange with the elders at the complex's 'information station,' Yang Dian and Shi Sheng bid them farewell and walked deeper into the complex.

Arriving downstairs at Lin Mo's apartment building, Yang Dian sighed again:

"Lin Ling still doesn't want to live at your place?"

Shi Sheng shook his head:

"She said she wants to wait at home for the Captain to come back."

"I don't know what happened on the Captain's side. It's been almost two months since he left, and he only occasionally makes a call back."

Yang Dian frowned:

"After I go home, I'll go check that place and see what exactly happened..."

As he spoke, he walked up the stairs to the fifth floor.

He knocked on the door twice, and in a moment, Yang Dian noticed the light behind the peephole dim.

Then the security door opened with a 'creak,' and Lin Ling, with a high ponytail, wearing an apron, and holding a spoon, appeared before Yang Dian and Shi Sheng.

"Brother Shi, Brother Yang, you're here."

Saying that, she asked with a hint of nervousness and anticipation:

"Is there any news about my dad?"

Yang Dian smiled at her:

"There's no news from Uncle Mo yet."

Seeing Lin Ling's eyes dim instantly, Yang Dian continued:

"But you don't have to worry."

"Didn't he call you not long ago? He's definitely fine."

"And I've finished my business here. Tonight, or at most tomorrow morning, I'll go check on Uncle Mo."

"I'll let you know after I've checked."

Lin Ling's eyes lit up again, then she asked somewhat cautiously:

"Will it be too much trouble for you?"

Yang Dian shook his head:

"What trouble?"

"Uncle Mo hasn't returned, I was planning to go check on him anyway."

After speaking, Yang Dian gave Shi Sheng a look, and Shi Sheng, at just the right moment, took out the doll he had been carrying behind his back:

"Ta-da!"

"Here, this is your gift."

Lin Ling saw the white teddy bear in the plastic box, opened her mouth, and was about to say that she was no longer a child and didn't like such small dolls.

But seeing Shi Sheng's expectant eyes, she still hugged the plastic box and sweetly said:

"Thank you, Brother Shi."

Shi Sheng immediately beamed with joy:

"Why be so polite with your Brother Shi?"

As they chatted, the three walked into the room.

Shi Sheng followed Lin Ling into the kitchen to 'help' (and likely cause more work), while Yang Dian, holding the little lamb doll, found Wang Dantong standing on the floor, stepping on something.

"Tongtong, look what Big Brother brought you?"

Tongtong turned around at the sound, and her eyes immediately reddened when she saw the little lamb doll in Yang Dian's hand.

"Dad?"

Yang Dian... 'I'm so damn dead!'
