379: Artoria wants to sacrifice herself, Yang Dian: Me, the new god?
“We can, but why should we?”
Yang Dian pulled a chair from his storage space, placed it behind him, sat down, and crossed his legs: “Just as you want to protect the people of your country, the warriors of our country must also protect our people.”
“To dispatch an Expeditionary Force to leave China and help you resist the Machina, we have already been benevolent and righteous enough.”
“You shouldn’t ask for too much, should you not?”
“Just wait.”
“When we liberate Paris, liberate France, perhaps then we can bring the people of France to support you.”
Then Yang Dian’s tone shifted: “Of course, we might also be too busy to help you.”
“You, England, are isolated overseas. To transport a large number of troops to England, it can only be done by ship.”
“If the Machina attack the ships during troop transport, the loss would be the living strength of humanity.”
“I think perhaps we should first quell the Machina rebellion on land, and then free up our hands to support you.”
“What do you think?”
Artoria gripped the hilt of her sword: “Please support us, England. For this, we are willing to pay any price.”
Yang Dian chuckled, then suddenly bent down, bringing his head close to Artoria’s, his eyes meeting hers as he said: “Any price?”
“Including you?”
Artoria took a deep breath, lowered her head: “As long as you are willing to send troops to support us and save our people.”
“Including me.”
Yang Dian scoffed, sitting upright again: “But why do you think you are nobler than others?”
“Why should I sacrifice Chinese warriors to help you?”
“The lives of French civilians are also lives. Why should I ignore the French people right in front of me and cross the strait to save you, the English?”
“Just because of you?”
Artoria’s eyes were dazed; she opened her mouth, but was speechless.
She didn’t know what else besides her own body could make Yang Dian change his mind.
In a trance, she suddenly remembered a court lesson she had once attended.
‘What can make a man desire endlessly, besides beauty, is power.’
Thinking of this, she looked up again: “Marry me.”
“You will become the King of England.”
“The only King.”
‘Still so naive.’ He muttered to himself, then Yang Dian held up one finger:
“First, if I truly wanted to be the King of England, I wouldn’t need to marry you.”
Then he held up a second finger: “Second, rather than begging others, it’s better to strengthen yourself.”
“You, England, still have quite a few resistance forces, don’t you? They’ve just been led into bunkers by your nobles.”
“Compared to begging us for support, you should think carefully about how to get your nobles to emerge from their bunkers.”
“They might be unwilling, but can’t you lead the Machina to where they are hiding?”
“Third.”
Holding up his third finger, Yang Dian stood up: “We will not change our battle plan for anyone, unless they can pay a sufficient price.”
“Remember, the price is not you, but something useful to us.”
Putting away the chair and walking out of the shelter, as he passed Artoria, Yang Dian looked down at her: “When you’ve thought about what price to pay, then come find me.”
With that, Yang Dian didn’t give Artoria another chance to speak, directly closed the wristband projection, and walked out of the shelter.
After only a couple of steps, Agatha silently emerged from the shadows.
Yang Dian found that these Blind Nuns really liked hiding in the shadows.
It was like this before, and it’s like this now.
Perhaps it’s because they are used to darkness, so they want to drag others to their level, and then defeat them with their rich experience?
‘If my Mental Energy hadn’t been locked onto her, I might really have been startled by her.’
‘Also, these Blind Nuns seem inhuman.’
‘Although they have life essence, there are no emotional fluctuations.’
His thoughts churned for a few moments, then Yang Dian looked at Agatha and said: “Shouldn’t you be busy attacking the Machina’s supercomputing center?”
“Why are you back?”
Agatha was silent for a moment: “The Seer ‘saw’ that something bad would happen here, so she sent me to see what would occur.”
Recalling the time when Agatha returned, Yang Dian realized that she seemed to have come back when Artoria was begging them to abandon Paris and go to England to save people.
If he had agreed to Artoria’s plea, it would indeed not have been good news for Paris or for the Blind Sisters Order.
‘I didn’t sense anyone else prying just now.’
‘So there really is a Seer in the Blind Sisters Order who can predict certain bad things?’
‘China, with 1.4 billion people, hasn’t awakened a single prophetic talent, but Western Europe has two?’
In his thoughts, Agatha bowed to Yang Dian again: “But clearly, the Seer predicted wrongly.”
“Compared to the Lord who disregards the suffering of all beings, you are more like a God who treats everyone equally.”
Yang Dian smiled faintly: “Since you say I’m like a God, why don’t you believe in me?”
“Perhaps after believing in me, your prayers might actually receive a response.”
Agatha was silent for a moment, then asked with a hint of inquiry: “Can you tell me the true purpose of China sending soldiers to Paris?”
“Haven’t you already guessed?” Yang Dian had no intention of hiding his goal: “To train troops, to prepare for future cross-realm expeditions.”
“As for saving you.”
“It’s just a matter of convenience.”
“What seems like a matter of convenience to you, for us, is saving the lives of millions, tens of millions, or even hundreds of millions of civilians.” Agatha’s tone became somewhat respectful: “Compared to that Lord who has never shown a miracle, your arrival is more like a God descending. You are indeed more worthy of our faith than the Lord.”
Yang Dian was taken aback.
He was just being flirtatious.
How did Agatha seem to take it seriously?
He could feel that the respect emanating from her was genuine.
But the question was, why was this happening?
She clearly didn’t have this attitude before.
She clearly said something about ‘God is dead, the devil has usurped the throne, only self-will is the true master of the body’ before.
How did her attitude completely reverse after just one outing?
‘Because of that Seer?’
Just as Yang Dian was wondering, Agatha spoke again: “If you can save Paris, save France, save the European continent, and save all civilians on Earth.”
“Then you are undoubtedly the God of this world.”
“A God worthy of our faith and pursuit.”
Yang Dian felt a bit numb.
“No.”
“Wait.”
“Didn’t you say that only self-will is the true master of the body?”
“That’s a contradiction, hey!”
