95: A cliché love story

“I know very little about the Martial Dao Level 6.”

“I only know that it’s related to the spirit.”

“A Martial Arts Grandmaster can control their detached Qi and blood, condensing it into a great Qi and blood Dragon to fight against heaven and earth.”

“An unrestricted Martial Arts Grandmaster could completely destroy a city in a short amount of time, even a major city in the country.”

“Once a powerhouse of this level makes a move, only a powerhouse of the same level, or a large-scale missile bombardment, can deal with him.”

“There are rumors that those Martial Dao Level 6 Grandmasters in the country occasionally gather to discuss the Dao of Level 7 after Level 6, but I don’t know if it’s true.”

“If you’re really going to Qingcheng Mountain, you can ask the old Daoist priest about it.”

Yang Dian nodded seriously:

“If I get any information, I’ll definitely tell Captain Lin first thing.”

Lin Feng’s Face darkened:

“Why are you calling me ‘uncle’?”

“Am I very old?”

“I’m only 49!”

“I look like I’m only in my 30s!”

“Rounding it up, that’s 20!”

“Don’t call me ‘uncle’, call me ‘brother’, understand?”

“Call me ‘brother’!”

Qian Xueming chuckled from the side:

“Little Lin used to be in the border defense forces, and after retiring, he came to our confidential department to do security, so he never had a chance to find a partner.”

“The organization arranged several blind dates for him, but he said he didn’t want an arranged marriage and preferred a sweet romance, wanting to find a partner himself.”

“But when he tries to find a partner himself, ordinary people don’t know he’s a Martial Artist, he’s getting older, and he refuses to tell anyone about his savings.”

“So he’s just been single all this time.”

Lin Feng, who was applying ointment to his foot, glared at Qian Xueming, grimacing:

“Old Qian, why are you old geezer spilling all my secrets everywhere?”

“Do I still have any Face left?!”

“Believe it or not, I’ll go mess with your granddaughter!”

Qian Xueming spread his hands:

“That would only work if my granddaughter took a liking to you.”

Ignoring Lin Feng, who was huffing and puffing, he turned his gaze back to Yang Dian:

“My granddaughter has high standards; she wouldn’t look at an oaf like him.”

“A young talent like Little Yang is more suitable.”

Saying that, he patted Yang Dian’s shoulder again:

“My granddaughter just turned twenty-one this year.”

“As the saying goes, ‘a woman three years older brings a golden brick.’ Do you want me to set you two up?”

Yang Dian was speechless.

How was it that even after coming all the way to Chengdu, he still couldn’t escape the fate of being set up?

Fortunately, there was someone here who could be a shield:

“Like Brother Lin, I advocate for free love.”

Lin Feng freed one hand and gave Yang Dian a thumbs-up:

“Good brother.”

Qian Xueming sighed inwardly, a hint of sadness appearing in his eyes.

However, this sadness didn't seem to be because Yang Dian rejected him.

It seemed to be because of Lin Feng.

Yang Dian, stroking the Little Black Cat, looked back and forth between the silent Qian Xueming and the boisterous Lin Feng, feeling like there was a story there.

So, after leaving the Research Institute underground and seeing Li Xin squatting under a tree outside, playing with a kitten, he approached her.

“Playing with the cat?”

Li Xin was startled by the sudden voice.

She stood up and, seeing it was Yang Dian, patted her chest:

“Why are you so scary? You walk without making a sound.”

As her words fell, she suddenly thought of something, smoothed her hair, and became exceptionally gentle:

“I... I just wanted to see if I could find other mutated kittens~”

Yang Dian shivered, startled by her overly sweet voice.

Were these words that a Western Sichuan Dragon could utter?

Her voice was almost squeezed into a tiny biscuit!

Seeing Yang Dian’s reaction, Li Xin’s shoulders slumped:

“Alright, this trick really doesn’t work on you.”

She spread her hands and directly stated the reason:

“My old man looked at your profile and thinks you’re a stock with potential. He wants me to seduce you and have a baby with you.”

“Just tell me, are you willing or not?”

Looking at Li Xin, who stood with her arms crossed, speaking bluntly, Yang Dian rubbed his nose.

Li Xin’s words gave him a feeling that was both somewhat unexpected and yet seemed to be within reason:

“I don’t have any plans to find a partner at the moment.”

Saying that, he looked Li Xin up and down a few times:

“If I ever do have an idea in the future, I might consider you.”

Li Xin rolled her eyes at Yang Dian:

“Then, if you’d be so merciful, please don’t consider me!”

Some people want to attach themselves to Yang Dian to secure a superior life in the future.

Naturally, there are also those who dislike such arranged marriages controlled by others and wish to find their true love, a soulmate.

Evidently, Li Xin was the latter.

She had her own ideas and wouldn't favor Yang Dian just because of his strength, talent, or looks.

So, Yang Dian felt more at ease interacting with someone like her.

Walking over to Li Xin, Yang Dian took out the last cat treat from his pocket and, amidst the Little Black Cat’s disgruntled meows, handed the cat treat to the small calico cat squatting on the ground, licking its paws.

“Human, you promised all the cat treats would be mine from now on?”

Yang Dian scratched the Little Black Cat’s chin:

“I changed my mind.”

The Little Black Cat jumped down from Yang Dian’s arms and walked towards the roadside greenery, wagging its tail:

“Human, I don’t like you anymore.”

Yang Dian, feeding the small calico, smiled:

“I’ll buy you a whole box of good ones later, so you can eat until you’re stuffed.”

The Little Black Cat changed direction, its tail standing upright, the tip twitching as it hopped back into Yang Dian’s arms:

“Human, I’m starting to like you a little bit again.”

“Human, when are we going to buy cat treats?”

Yang Dian cheerfully rubbed the Little Black Cat’s head a couple of times, then stood up and looked at Li Xin:

“Do you know anything about Captain Lin Feng of the security team?”

Yang Dian realized he seemed to enjoy gossip a bit:

“He seems to have a story.”

Li Xin glanced at Yang Dian and nodded:

“It’s no secret.”

“Captain Lin used to have a girlfriend who was a forest ranger, but she died at the hands of poachers during a poaching incident.”

“Those poachers were never caught.”

“Because of his girlfriend, Captain Lin has always refused to find a partner, even saying he wants to find true love.”

“How could we not understand his thoughts?”

“So, whenever marriage or similar topics come up, we always try to hint at him, wanting him not to dwell on the past.”

“But it doesn’t seem to have any effect.”

Yang Dian wasn’t as happy as he imagined after hearing the gossip.

This gossip was a bit cliché and a bit touching; hearing too much of it easily led to gloom.

It would have been better not to hear it.

Yang Dian rubbed his brow, feeling a bit annoyed:

“Alright, I should have known not to ask.”

Exhaling, he waved at Li Xin again:

“I’m leaving first. I’ll treat you to a meal sometime.”

Li Xin scoffed:

“People who say things like that usually mean there won’t be a ‘sometime’.”

Yang Dian gave a thumbs-up without looking back:

“Transparent~”

...Bidding farewell to Li Xin, he strolled through the campus, which felt somewhat empty due to the summer vacation, with only two or three children accompanied by adults, their laughter echoing.

Thinking about Captain Lin Feng’s story, Yang Dian let out another deep breath.

“Separation by life and death.”

“Such things, who knows how many more will happen in the future...”
