102: Chapter 12 Argument in the Coffee Shop

Liu Hui let out a coquettish snort and said, "That sounds more like it. Alright, it’s getting late now, you hurry up and go wash up and get to sleep!"

Shen Yan did not agree.

He and Liu Hui hadn't seen each other for over half a month.

It was rare that they managed to have a phone call.

He didn't want to hang up so quickly.

They chatted for another half an hour.

It wasn't until someone called Liu Hui on her end that Shen Yan reluctantly said, "Since you have something to do, you go ahead and take care of it. I'm going to wash up now. Bye-bye."

After hanging up, Shen Yan didn't go to wash up.

He was thinking about what Youyou had said.

Although he knew Chen Ling wasn't very attentive to Youyou, to Youyou, Chen Ling was her mother, and she wouldn't not want to see her mother.

After much thought, he sent Chen Ling a text message.

"Are you free tomorrow? Let's find a time to meet up."

As soon as the message was sent, he received a reply.

"Two o'clock tomorrow afternoon, downstairs at my company."

Two o'clock the next afternoon.

Shen Yan arrived punctually at the coffee shop downstairs from Chen Ling's company.

"Hello, sir, what would you like to drink?"

Shen Yan waved his hand and said, "I'm waiting for someone. I'll order in a bit."

The Waitress nodded. "Okay, then I'll bring you a glass of water first."

Then, Shen Yan sat there drinking that glass of water for over an hour.

"Sir, hello, would you like me to refill your glass of water?"

Hearing the Waitress's question, Shen Yan took a deep breath.

"No need. Just bring me the bill. How much is the water?"

The Waitress looked troubled.

"This... water in our shop is free of charge."

After hearing that, Shen Yan casually pointed and said, "Then bring me one of those coffees, and the bill."

Just as the Waitress was about to nod, the sound of high heels came from behind him.

"Oh my! I'm so sorry, I'm just a tiny bit late."

Shen Yan, with a dark expression, said to the Waitress, "Excuse me, please bring up the coffee I just ordered."

The Waitress nodded, then turned to Chen Ling and asked, "Ma'am, what would you like to drink?"

Chen Ling didn't even look at him and directly told the Waitress, "Just bring me the same coffee as him."

The Waitress acknowledged her and turned back to the front counter to prepare.

The two sat down.

Chen Ling took out her cosmetics to touch up her makeup.

"I was just in a meeting and accidentally lost track of time. You don't blame me, do you?"

Shen Yan let out a "Hmph."

"Didn't you always do this before? Always making me wait an hour or two."

Chen Ling looked displeased.

"But I was testing your sincerity. If you can't even wait an hour or two, then you're not worthy of going out with me!"

Shen Yan couldn't stand it anymore.

He placed his phone heavily on the table.

"I didn't ask you here today to reminisce about the past."

Chen Ling raised the corner of her mouth and asked, "Is that so?"

"I thought you just came here to reminisce about the past with me."

Shen Yan ignored her and got straight to the point.

"Youyou said she missed you last night. See when you have time to come over and see her."

Chen Ling tilted her head.

"Then just send Youyou over. She's been with you for so long, it's time for her to come back."

Shen Yan's voice deepened, carrying a hint of impatience.

"I remember I made myself very clear. You can come see Youyou, but Youyou must stay at my place."

Chen Ling scoffed.

"Shen Yan, why are you so shameless? I am Youyou's mother. It's only natural that she stays with me. Why should you snatch Youyou's custody from me?"

"Because I am her father!"

After replying, Shen Yan added, "No matter what happened between us, you are still Youyou's mother. I won't take away your right to visit her, but I hope you can think about this matter from the perspective of Youyou's mother."

Chen Ling also got angry.

"How am I not thinking about this from Youyou's mother's perspective?"

"I am Youyou's mother. What's wrong with me wanting her to stay with me?!"

Shen Yan pursed his lips and brought up the incident from last time.

"If you were responsible enough, you wouldn't have let Youyou get lost right under your nose, nor would you abandon Youyou's situation to go to a meeting at the company."

A flicker of guilt crossed Chen Ling's face.

"Anyway, you and the police were looking for her. What difference does it make if I'm there or not?"

Shen Yan couldn't be bothered to argue with her.

Arguing was the most meaningless thing to him.

Instead of debating who was right or wrong here, it was better to look directly at the result.

"Just answer me directly: are you going to see Youyou or not? If you're not going, then I'll tell Youyou."

Chen Ling suddenly shot up from her chair.

"Go! Why wouldn't I go?"

Getting the answer, Shen Yan nodded.

"Then tonight. What time are you free tonight?"

Chen Ling licked her back molars.

She had a date with Yang Jin tonight and didn't have time to see Youyou.

"I'm busy tonight. Wait a couple of days."

Shen Yan laughed in anger.

"You don't even have time to see Youyou, yet you have the nerve to tell me you can take good care of her?"

Chen Ling kicked the table.

"Shen Yan! I advise you to know when to stop!"

Shen Yan didn't say anything. He rolled his eyes, walked directly to the counter to pay, and left.

"Hello, ma'am, here are your two coffees. Are you taking them to go or..."

"Smack!"

The coffee spilled all over the Waitress.

Chen Ling glared at the Waitress with a displeased look.

"I don't want this coffee anymore! Get lost!"

The Waitress stood frozen.

She didn't understand what she had done wrong to be treated like this by Chen Ling.

Just as Chen Ling was about to leave the coffee shop, the owner of the coffee shop appeared.

"Hello, ma'am. You just spilled coffee on my Employee. You must apologize to him."

Chen Ling was already displeased.

Hearing the coffee shop owner demand that she apologize to the Waitress, she became even more displeased.

"Why should I apologize to some Waitress?"

"He was just being nosy, coming up to talk to me when I was in a bad mood. Isn't it only right that he got coffee spilled on him?"

The coffee shop owner nearly laughed in anger.

The Waitress was diligently doing his job, and in Chen Ling's eyes, he was being nosy?!

"If you don't apologize, I'll call the police right now!"
