71: Chapter 71 Every Second Counts

It was another special mission.

This special mission was different from the previous ones.

The time limit was much longer than before.

Even without this special mission, he would have tried his best to develop the software in a short amount of time.

After all, if the software wasn't developed quickly, his company would continue to starve.

*Knock, knock, knock.*

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.

Shen Yan clutched his head and walked to the door, asking:

"Who is it?"

"It's me."

Opening the door, he saw Liu Hui.

She was dressed in casual clothes, carrying a lunch box in her hand.

"I heard you got drunk last night, so I made some porridge and brought it over for you."

Shen Yan was taken aback and blurted out, "How did you know I was drunk last night? Who told you?"

Liu Hui bit her lip and said, "It was Guang Ke. He told me you drank a lot, and then..."

Shen Yan understood the rest without her having to say it.

That Old Chen!

He had already said he had no intention of dating right now, so why was he still trying to set him up with Liu Hui?

"Come in."

Shen Yan stepped aside to let Liu Hui in, then closed the door behind her.

*Click.*

As soon as the door closed, Liu Hui immediately smelled the lingering scent of alcohol in the room.

"Just how much did you drink last night? The smell of alcohol is so strong."

Shen Yan raised his hand and took a sniff.

Indeed, the smell of alcohol was very heavy.

To avoid bothering Liu Hui with the smell, he ran to the balcony to grab some clothes and said, "I did drink quite a bit. Why don't you wait here for a moment while I go take a shower?"

Liu Hui naturally had no objection.

She set down the lunch box and began looking for bowls and chopsticks.

By the time Shen Yan came out, Liu Hui had already set the table and was waiting for him.

No one else had been in his home for a long time, and seeing her there made Shen Yan feel a bit dazed for a moment.

Seeing Shen Yan staring blankly at her, Liu Hui touched her face and blushed. "What's wrong? Is there something on my face?"

Shen Yan snapped back to his senses.

"No... it's just that since my sister went to the nursing home, no one else has been here. So... I might not be used to it yet."

Liu Hui nodded blankly and replied, "Oh, I see."

Shen Yan gave another "mm" and sat down across from Liu Hui.

After a few mouthfuls of porridge, Shen Yan's headache eased considerably.

"This porridge is really delicious."

Hearing the compliment, Liu Hui couldn't help but curl her lips into a smile.

"I'm glad you like it!"

"Making porridge is what I'm best at. If you like it, I'll make it for you again next time!"

Shen Yan set down his chopsticks, pursed his lips, and said:

"There's no need for a next time."

Liu Hui paused, her fingers subconsciously curling.

"I didn't mean anything else, I just..."

Before she could finish, Shen Yan interrupted her directly.

"Whether you meant anything by it or not, I hope you won't do this again. Do you understand what I'm saying?"

Liu Hui opened her mouth, and after a long silence, she squeezed out three words.

"I understand."

Having said that, Liu Hui stood up to pack the lunch box.

*Creak.*

The sound of the door closing rang out.

The room returned to silence.

Shen Yan sat in his chair, dazed for a long time.

He didn't move again until his phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Alright, I'll head over right away."

Hanging up, he sent a message to Chen Guangke.

Then, he grabbed his briefcase and rushed to the company.

When he arrived at the company, Chen Guangke and the other Employees were already there.

The people from the relevant departments were also there.

As soon as they saw Shen Yan, they told him, "We've finished our investigation. There are no issues with your accounts. You can resume business now."

Shen Yan smiled. "Alright, thank you. You've worked hard during this time. Old Chen, see them out."

Chen Guangke took the order and politely escorted them out.

Only after they had completely left did the smile vanish from Chen Guangke's face.

"Holy crap! These people change faces faster than flipping pages in a book. They were so aggressive toward us a while ago, and now they're being so polite..."

Shen Yan glared at Chen Guangke, then said to the other Employees, "Everyone, organize the materials you have on hand first. We'll have a meeting in the conference room in an hour."

After saying that, he called Chen Guangke into his office.

"Why did you glare at me just now? Did I say something wrong?"

Shen Yan clicked his tongue.

"Look at who was around you. The other Employees were right there. How could you say just anything?"

Chen Guangke curled his lip, not thinking he was in the wrong.

"They can listen if they want. I didn't say anything wrong. But seriously, that Bi Ming works fast. They're gone in less than a day..."

Shen Yan didn't continue with that topic.

He flipped through the documents on his desk and asked Chen Guangke, "Have you contacted Xiao Wu?"

Chen Guangke got a headache just thinking about it.

"No. I don't know what's going on with her. She doesn't reply to messages or answer calls. Do you think something happened to her?"

Shen Yan wasn't sure either. He turned on his computer and checked the Employee information.

"She listed a rental address. If you're not busy after the meeting, come with me to her place."

Chen Guangke indicated he had no objection.

An hour later, Shen Yan walked into the conference room with all the materials he had.

"Hello, everyone. I know the events of the past few days have been quite unsettling. But now that the issue is resolved, I hope we can all work together to finish developing the software we have on hand."

"Next, I'll assign tasks to everyone. We'll aim to have the software developed and launched within fifteen days."

As soon as he said this, the Employees were in an uproar.

"President Shen, that's just too much. We've only just built the framework. How could we possibly finish development and launch in fifteen days?"

"Exactly. The timeline is way too tight. The final software won't be as good as expected."

"Right, it would take at least a month, wouldn't it?"

Shen Yan didn't speak until everyone had finished voicing their opinions.

"I know you all understand what I mean. Since I'm saying we need to finish and launch in fifteen days, it means I intend for you to work overtime."

"Of course, don't worry, I won't force you. If you don't want to work overtime, that's fine too. You can leave today, and I'll pay you double wages."

Chen Guangke was completely dumbfounded.

He didn't know what had provoked Shen Yan to suddenly want to launch the software in fifteen days.

You have to realize that Shen Yan hadn't been in a hurry at all before.

"Old Chen, are you..."

"...crazy?!"

If there hadn't been others present, Chen Guangke would have definitely blurted out those last two words.
