812: Chapter 87 Long Time No See
That promise was actually made a year ago. Back then, he was still very busy. His daughter looked at the amusement park advertisement flyer with eyes full of longing but dared not speak up.
The current Shen Yan lacked nothing more than the ability to fulfill his promises.
Liu Hui's eyes lit up for a moment, then she glanced with some worry at the blazing sun outside the window.
"Today is the weekend; it's definitely going to be crowded over there, and the weather is so hot..."
"It's fine, I'll make the arrangements."
Shen Yan picked up his phone. Instead of calling his secretary, he directly dialed the number of the Administrative Director of Rock Technology.
The so-called arrangement naturally wasn't about queuing at the ticket window.
An hour later, a black mercedes-benz maybach GLS slowly drove out of the villa area. Chen Guangke acted as the driver, even though his current net worth had long surpassed nine figures.
"Brother Yan, you're amazing. You just got back from that hellhole Walden, and instead of catching up on sleep, you have the energy to go suffer at an amusement park."
Chen Guangke glanced in the rearview mirror at the back seat, a toothpick dangling from his mouth, his tone laced with teasing.
Shen Yan was lowering his head to wipe bread crumbs from Youyou's mouth. Hearing this, he didn't even look up.
"Wait until you have a daughter, then you'll understand. Pretending to be a grandson in front of those warlords is for making money. And what is making money for? Isn't it so you can be the big shot now?"
Youyou was wearing a pink princess dress, sitting next to Shen Yan, her two short legs swinging back and forth, clearly ecstatic.
The little girl who had once become sensitive and timid due to family changes finally had the rosy complexion and pampered look befitting her age back on her face.
This was the confidence Shen Yan had exchanged for countless days and nights of brutal struggle.
The car stopped in front of the VIP exclusive passage of "Star Sea Paradise." This area was so deserted it was almost desolate, forming a stark contrast with the bustling crowds and snake-like queues at the ordinary entrance next door.
Several staff members in crisp uniforms were already waiting there. After confirming the license plate number was correct, a manager-like figure quickly ran over to open the door.
"CEO Shen, welcome. I am Wang Bo, the park's Senior Client Manager. I will accompany you for the entire itinerary today."
Wang Bo's smile was so standard it looked like it had been measured with a ruler, his eyes revealing reverence reserved for top predators.
Rock Technology was now the rising star of Jinghai City, and Shen Yan was a mad dog in the business world. Who didn't know that this master managed to turn a nearly bankrupt company into an industry giant in just two or three years?
Shen Yan nodded, got out of the car holding Youyou. Liu Hui followed alongside, pushing Shen An's stroller.
There was no ticket checking, no queuing, and even the security check was just a perfunctory scan.
Such privilege was not uncommon in Jinghai City. What was rare was the expression on Shen Yan's face—as calm as if he were strolling through his own backyard.
The park was packed, and the heat mixed with noise washed over them.
Ordinary tourists stood in line under the scorching sun for two hours just to play a five-minute ride, sweat plastering their clothes to their backs, frustration etched on everyone's face.
Under Wang Bo's guidance, Shen Yan's family passed directly through an internal passage known only to a very few.
That passage had constant temperature air conditioning, iced drinks handed to them at any moment, and prime viewing spots reserved exclusively for VIPs.
"Daddy, I want to ride that carousel!"
Youyou pointed at the double-decker luxury merry-go-round in the distance, her eyes sparkling.
The queue there wrapped around three full circles, estimated to be at least a forty-minute wait.
Wang Bo was just about to grab his walkie-talkie to clear the area, but Shen Yan raised a hand to stop him.
"No need to clear the area. Just let Youyou get on normally; cut the line."
He didn't mind using his privilege, but he didn't want his daughter to think the entire world had to make way for her. That kind of upbringing produced useless people.
Even so, when the staff opened the side door marked "Temporarily Out of Service" and let Shen Yan's family walk directly to the front row, countless complex gazes were cast their way.
There was envy, jealousy, and quiet complaints.
"Why can they go straight in? We've been waiting for an hour!"
A young man wearing a trendy T-shirt grumbled loudly, holding the hand of a fashionably dressed internet celebrity.
The staff member just smiled politely and pointed to the inconspicuous disposable wristband on Shen Yan's wrist.
That was the mark of the "Star Sea Supreme Card," costing three million RMB annually, and it wasn't sold publicly; only the top fifty taxpayers in Jinghai City were invited.
The young man was clearly knowledgeable. After spotting the black and gold wristband, he forcefully swallowed the curse words forming on his lips, his face turning bright red.
In this Jinghai, class was an invisible high wall, sometimes even harder than physical barbed wire.
Shen Yan paid no mind to this small interlude. He lifted Youyou onto a white unicorn and carefully fastened her safety belt.
"Hold on tight. If you're scared, just call for Daddy."
Youyou nodded vigorously, smiling like a flower.
As the music started, the carousel began to turn. Shen Yan stepped back outside the railing and took out his phone to photograph his daughter.
Liu Hui stood beside him, watching the scene, her eyes slightly red.
"Husband, thank you."
"Thank me for what?"
"Thank you for carrying all of this."
Liu Hui knew how hard Shen Yan had worked over the years, from being heavily in debt to his current comeback. This man's spine seemed to be cast from steel rebar.
Shen Yan put away his phone, turned to look at his wife, and reached out to smooth her wind-blown bangs.
"It's not over yet. This is nothing."
"Everything I'm doing now is just so that no one will ever dare to make us bow our heads again."
Just then, a rather sharp female voice broke the warm atmosphere.
"Oh, isn't this Liu Hui?"
Shen Yan frowned slightly and looked in the direction of the voice.
A woman wearing a Chanel suit walked over from not far away. Her makeup was exquisite, she carried a limited-edition Hermès bag, and she was accompanied by a slightly balding middle-aged man.
Liu Hui's body stiffened for a moment.
That was her former department supervisor, named Zhang Li, notorious for being a social climber. When Liu Hui resigned to take care of the down-and-out Shen Yan, this woman had often mocked her behind her back, calling her "precision poverty alleviation."
"Sister Zhang, long time no see."
Liu Hui quickly adjusted her mood and greeted her politely.
Zhang Li looked Liu Hui up and down, her gaze landing on her casual outfit—which, despite its excellent texture, showed no discernible brand—a hint of superiority flashing in her eyes.
"It has been a long time. I heard you recently went back to work? How is it? Is it very hard balancing childcare and work?"
As Zhang Li spoke, she deliberately held up her Hermès bag higher, as if afraid others wouldn't see it.
"And this must be your husband? He looks quite unfamiliar. What does he do?"
"
