401: Chapter 41: Hidden Meaning

Gu Xuantian's expression stiffened. He hadn't expected Gu Mingming to even know about that.

"So what? I'm the one who makes the final decision. If it weren't for me, this project wouldn't have been finalized!"

Gu Mingming couldn't help but roll his eyes.

"I really don't know how Grandpa tolerated your arrogance in this position before..."

Before he finished speaking, Gu Xuantian seemed provoked and smashed everything on his desk onto the floor.

"Gu Mingming! You are not qualified to call the Old Master 'Grandpa'!"

"Don't forget, who personally sent him in? If it weren't for you, how could Grandpa have gone in, and how could he have faced over twenty years in prison!"

Hearing this, Gu Mingming's expression changed.

But quickly, his expression returned to normal.

"I don't know what you're talking about. Believe it or not, I will say that I did nothing from beginning to end."

Gu Xuantian didn't believe a word Gu Mingming said.

"Did nothing?"

"Stop joking. If you really did nothing, how could you have persuaded those members of the Board of Directors in advance?"

"Don't tell me they truly believed in your ability. Not even a three-year-old would believe such a lie!"

Gu Mingming shrugged.

"I'm not three years old, and I quite believe that explanation. Alright, stop throwing a tantrum here. Hurry up and pack your things and get out. Gu Corporation can no longer accommodate a big shot like you."

Gu Xuantian gritted his teeth.

"Fine! Winner takes all! I'll leave if I leave, but I advise you not to celebrate too early! Fortune turns. When I make a comeback, you will be the unlucky one!"

Gu Mingming nodded dismissively.

"Okay, then I'll wait for the day you make a comeback."

Gu Xuantian felt like he had punched cotton, making him even angrier.

After Gu Xuantian left the office, Gu Mingming called Shen Yan.

"Mr. Shen, what kind of support do you need from our side for your project?"

Hearing Gu Mingming's question, Shen Yan replied to him, "You don't need to ask me about that. I will have specialized personnel contact you."

Gu Mingming grunted but didn't hang up immediately.

Sensing that the other party had something more to say, Shen Yan asked Gu Mingming, "Is there anything else?"

Gu Mingming cleared his throat and asked Shen Yan, "I... I have a question, but I don't know if I should ask..."

Shen Yan answered without hesitation, "Since you are hesitating whether to ask, it means this question shouldn't be asked."

The words fell.

Gu Mingming was silent for a long time.

Then, he finally spoke.

"My grandfather... Gu Hui's imprisonment... was it... was it your doing?"

Shen Yan let out a soft laugh.

"You agonized for so long just to ask me this question?"

"I thought we both knew the answer between us."

Hearing this, Gu Mingming's heart skipped a beat.

"So... did you really send him in?"

Shen Yan placed the phone on the desk and pressed the speakerphone button.

"Thank you for the compliment, but as of now, I don't possess the ability to send you in and escape unscathed."

Gu Mingming secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

"So this matter has nothing to do with you?"

Shen Yan continued to deny it.

"Not entirely. Overall, there is a portion of my contribution to why your grandfather went in."

"Why did you suddenly think to ask this? You're not thinking of settling scores with me, are you?"

Although he asked this question in a joking tone, Gu Mingming knew he was serious.

Gu Mingming swallowed and replied in a cautious and serious tone, "I absolutely do not mean that. I just... suddenly felt like asking."

Shen Yan didn't say whether he believed it or not. He grunted and asked Gu Mingming, "Understood. Anything else?"

Gu Mingming replied in a low voice, "No more."

Shen Yan immediately hung up the phone.

Time ticked by second by second.

Soon, two days passed.

During these two days, Shen Yan had completed Youyou's enrollment procedures.

Today was the day Youyou officially started school.

"Daddy, are you going to take me to school?"

Hearing Youyou's question, Shen Yan nodded. He glanced at the digital watch beside him, then said to Youyou, "It's already 7:30. You still have ten minutes to eat."

Youyou pouted slightly, clearly dissatisfied.

"Ten minutes is not enough at all. I need at least thirty—no! Forty minutes!"

Shen Yan carried Youyou to the chair by the dining table while replying, "No way. Ten minutes means ten minutes. Today is the first day of school, and you don't want to be late, right?"

Youyou pursed her lips, finally showing a look of surrender, and finished all the porridge in her bowl.

"Alright, hurry up and put on your shoes. I'll drive you there."

The kindergarten wasn't far from their home.

It took less than half an hour to drive there.

Not long after.

Shen Yan got out of the car with Youyou at the kindergarten entrance.

"Waaah! I don't want to go to school, I don't want to go to school!"

As soon as they got out of the car, they heard many small children nearby crying because they didn't want to go to school.

Just as Shen Yan worried that Youyou would be scared by them, he heard Youyou ask him in a puzzled tone:

"Daddy, why don't they want to go to school?"

Shen Yan paused for a moment, then replied, "Maybe it's because they don't want to be separated from their parents."

Saying that, he spoke to Youyou in a somewhat melancholy tone, "Other children don't want to be separated from their families so soon, but you, you always want to run out."

Youyou snorted, "I don't want to stay at home all day! If I miss Daddy, I can go to the company to see you."

Shen Yan was at a loss whether to laugh or cry.

"Okay, okay, you have the most ideas. Alright, let's hurry inside, don't be late."

Youyou nodded and voluntarily reached out to hold Shen Yan's hand.

Two minutes later.

The two of them entered the classroom together.

"You can see the blackboard clearly here, and you can see the teacher too. Sit here."

Youyou obediently sat in the third seat from the left in the second row from the front.

"Daddy, are you leaving now?"

Hearing Youyou's question, Shen Yan raised his hand to look at his watch, then replied, "Yes, Daddy has to go to work, but I will stay here with you until the teacher arrives."

As soon as he finished speaking.

Youyou nodded, then took out a toy from her bag and started playing with it on the desk.

Shen Yan wanted to remind Youyou not to play with toys in the classroom.

But seeing that the other children were also playing with toys, he thought for a moment and didn't say anything.

After waiting for more than ten minutes, the teacher finally walked into the classroom with a few children who were still sniffling.
