22: Chapter 22 Moving to a New Home
Tao Tiantian let out a soft chuckle.
"Alright, stop feeding me inspirational nonsense. I'm twenty years old; I won't fall for your little tricks."
Shen Yan raised an eyebrow. "Didn't you say I had superpowers? Why don't you believe me now?"
Tao Tiantian was momentarily speechless. Believing Shen Yan had superpowers was one thing; believing he would gain them after the surgery was another matter entirely.
He wasn't foolish enough to believe everything someone told him.
Moreover, he knew this surgery was something he absolutely had to undergo.
If he didn't, he would lose his life.
He was just a little nervous and scared.
Shen Yan also knew Tao Tiantian was just nervous and scared. He smiled and changed the topic.
The two chatted happily inside the hospital room.
After talking for over half an hour, Tao Tiantian grew tired.
Noticing his fatigue, Shen Yan tucked the blanket around him and said, "That's enough. You look sleepy too, hurry up and sleep."
Tao Tiantian struggled to keep his eyelids open, fighting off the drowsiness.
"It's fine, I still have so much I want to talk to you about!"
Seeing this, Shen Yan felt a pang of sympathy.
He saw a shadow of his own sister in Tao Tiantian.
"We don't have to talk right now. I'll come visit you again later, and we can continue then."
Tao Tiantian truly couldn't hold on any longer. As he closed his eyes, he mumbled, "Then you have to leave me your contact information. As soon as I finish the surgery, you'll be the first person I contact..."
As he spoke, he drifted off to sleep.
Once his breathing gradually calmed, Shen Yan walked out of the hospital room.
As soon as he stepped out, he saw Tao Tiantian's father sitting on a chair, wiping away tears.
Shen Yan walked over and sat down beside him, asking, "Are you alright?"
Seeing him approach, Tao Tiantian's father quickly wiped his face.
"I'm fine, I'm fine. Nothing's wrong."
Shen Yan placed a hand on Tao Tiantian's father's shoulder and squeezed gently, offering comfort. "Everything will be fine."
Tao Tiantian's father nodded.
"I know. I accidentally overheard your conversation inside just now. You young man are also pitiful. How is your sister doing now?"
Shen Yan told him the truth.
He never shied away from discussing what had happened to him.
After a few exchanges, he asked the question that had been lingering in his heart.
"Mr. Tao, why do you keep calling me benefactor?"
Tao Tiantian's father paused for a moment before explaining, "This matter... you don't know yet, do you? The day he tried to run away, you helped us bring him back."
Shen Yan didn't think much of it.
If they insisted on calling him a benefactor just for that, he felt the title was far too grand.
Just as he was about to say so, Tao Tiantian's father continued, "Then that very night, he suddenly became critically ill. The situation was extremely urgent. If you hadn't caught him in time, I'm afraid..."
Shen Yan understood what he meant.
If he hadn't stopped Tao Tiantian that time, letting him go outside, Tao Tiantian probably would have collapsed on some street corner and died due to delayed medical attention.
"So that's how it was..."
Tao Tiantian's father nodded again.
"He is my only son, born late in life. As long as he can live, I'm willing to do anything. You saved his life; I definitely must thank you properly."
"If there is anything I can help you with in the future, just say the word!"
Shen Yan smiled without speaking.
He did indeed have something he might need help with in the future.
It was just that this wasn't the right time to bring it up.
After a brief chat, he bid farewell to Tao Tiantian's father and left.
Days passed one after another.
In the blink of an eye, half a month went by.
With Chen Guangke's help in making connections, Shen Yan successfully found a place with a good environment and location.
On the day of the move, Brother Sun called him into a room privately.
"Here, take this."
Saying that, Brother Sun pressed a thick envelope into his hand.
After signing the contract, they delivered all the tea leaves to Zhao Qian.
Just yesterday, the full payment had arrived in their account.
In addition, they had also signed a long-term contract with Zhao Qian.
From now on, no matter how much stock they procured, Zhao Qian's side could handle the entire volume.
This essentially meant they secured a long-term supply channel.
The money they would earn through this channel in the future would be many times greater than what they were making now.
The reason they had this opportunity was entirely thanks to Shen Yan's recommendation.
"Brother Sun, what is the meaning of this?"
Shen Yan had originally expected Brother Sun to hand him something else, but upon opening it, he found a thick stack of cash.
Brother Sun ignored his attempt to refuse and placed the envelope directly on his suitcase.
"Xiao Shen, I won't waste time on thanks. This is just a small token of our appreciation; please accept it."
The money in this envelope was easily ten or twenty thousand.
Shen Yan absolutely refused to accept it.
Earning money wasn't easy for anyone, and he had only acted as a facilitator in the middle; he hadn't done much.
"No, this is too much. If you and Sister-in-law Sun want to thank me, just treating me to a meal will suffice!"
Brother Sun glared at him.
"I'm telling you! You must accept this money!"
"If you don't, I won't let you leave today!"
Shen Yan was dumbfounded, not expecting Brother Sun to be so childish.
"If you give me the money, what will Sister-in-law Sun say?"
Brother Sun made a 'tsk' sound. "Xiao Shen, what kind of talk is that? I am the head of the household! I make the decisions at home!"
Shen Yan nodded, pretending to believe him.
Seeing this, Brother Sun dropped the act and told the truth.
"Alright, I won't beat around the bush with you. Sister-in-law Sun was the one who suggested giving you this money. On the day we received the payment, your sister-in-law gave me twenty thousand and told me to give it to you."
"You heard what I said to your sister-in-law that day..."
"Your sister-in-law isn't a bad person. If it weren't for us being short on cash, she and I wouldn't have..."
Shen Yan immediately interrupted him, his face serious. "It was my fault for owing rent in the first place. Regardless of your financial difficulties, it was right for you to urge me to pay."
"Don't worry, Brother Sun, I haven't held any grudges against Sister-in-law over that matter. I was just worried about how Sister-in-law would react if you gave me the money."
Brother Sun shook his head.
"I just said, this was your sister-in-law's idea. The day we got the money, she gave me twenty thousand and told me to give it to you."
"We can use this supply channel forever; we'll be making plenty of money later. If you hadn't recommended Zhao Qian to us, we would have been screwed over by that bastard. You have to take it, whether you like it or not!"
Seeing how insistent he was, Shen Yan stopped refusing.
"Fine, then I truly will accept it."
Brother Sun patted his back.
"You rascal, why are you being so polite with Brother Sun?!"
"Go on, go on, don't miss your ride."
Shen Yan nodded, taking the envelope and his suitcase, and left.
