219: Chapter 219 Finding a Job

Shen Yan held Liu Hui, rested his chin on the crook of her shoulder, and asked her seriously, "What's wrong?"

Liu Hui pursed her lips and replied nervously, "Although we are boyfriend and girlfriend now, we aren't married yet. Living with you and your family before marriage, isn't that a bit..."

Shen Yan raised an eyebrow, nodded solemnly, and replied, "That's right, you are correct. So, shouldn't we start considering marriage?"

Hearing this, Liu Hui's face immediately flushed crimson. She pushed Shen Yan away and hurriedly explained to him, "I, I didn't mean anything else. I wasn't trying to rush you into marrying me."

"I know your previous marriage wasn't good, and I know you must have reservations, so I was thinking we could spend some more time together, get to know each other a little better, and then..."

Just as she was explaining herself somewhat incoherently, Shen Yan held her tightly again. While gently patting Liu Hui's back, he reassured her, "Don't worry, I didn't misunderstand you. Everything I said is the absolute truth."

"We have been together for quite some time now, and I think it's time we consider getting married."

Liu Hui asked in a small voice, "Really?"

Shen Yan replied gently, "Of course it's true. Why would I lie to you? Let's find a time for me to bring gifts and visit your parents' home to meet them?"

Liu Hui responded quietly, then thoughtfully said, "I know you've been busy lately. Let's wait until this busy period passes, and then I'll bring it up with my parents."

Shen Yan nodded and kissed Liu Hui's forehead.

Just as the two were embracing tenderly, a knock sounded on the bedroom door.

"Knock, knock, knock."

"Brother, are you going out?"

Hearing Shen Ya's question, Shen Yan frowned and said to Liu Hui, "It's still early. You go back to sleep. I'll go see what she wants."

Liu Hui: "Okay, be careful when you go out."

Shen Yan nodded and walked toward the outside of the bedroom.

"Thud."

Closing the bedroom door, he grabbed his coat while asking Shen Ya, "What's up?"

Shen Ya followed him, smiling, and said to him, "Wait a moment, let's go out together. You can drop me off at the subway station."

Shen Yan turned around, confused.

"Why are you going to the subway station? Meeting friends?"

Shen Ya shook her head.

"No, I want to go look for a job."

Shen Yan stopped in his tracks, his face showing clear disapproval.

"Look for a job for what? I have enough money to support you."

Shen Ya burst out laughing.

"Oh, oh, oh, my brother is so domineering."

Shen Yan frowned and admonished her, "I'm not joking with you, I'm serious. You don't need to go out looking for work; just stay home and look after Youyou."

Shen Ya pouted slightly in dissatisfaction.

"I don't want to. I'm a healthy person with all my limbs intact. What's the point of staying home taking care of a child all day?"

Shen Yan wanted to say something more, but Shen Ya directly stopped him.

"Don't say any more. I already decided last night; you can't stop me."

Since Shen Ya had put it that way, Shen Yan couldn't say much more.

He thought for a moment, then turned to instruct Shen Ya, "You can look for a job, but don't sacrifice your health for work. You just recovered..."

Before he could finish speaking, Shen Ya pushed him toward the door.

"Alright, alright, I know. Why are you becoming more and more like a nagging mother?"

Hearing this, Shen Yan closed his mouth, sighed helplessly, and bent down to start putting on his shoes.

Once they were out the door, Shen Ya immediately got into the passenger seat.

"Just take me to the nearby subway station."

Shen Yan put his coat on the back seat, stepped on the accelerator, and said while driving, "No need to go through all that trouble. I can just drop you off near the company where you're interviewing."

Shen Ya flatly refused.

"I don't want that. It's rush hour now; taking the subway will be faster than you driving. Just drop me off at the nearby subway station, and don't worry about anything else."

Previously, because both their parents were alive and he had his own small family, they didn't see each other often. Therefore, in Shen Yan's heart, Shen Ya had always remained the little sister from her student days.

It was only at this moment that he realized Shen Ya had long since grown up without him noticing.

Thinking this, Shen Yan sighed inwardly again.

"Fine, I'll take you to the subway station then."

With that, he immediately turned the car and drove toward the nearby subway station.

The subway station wasn't far from his house; it only took a few minutes to drive there.

"Okay, I'm heading off now. Even though your work is busy, you must take care of your health. Don't ruin your body for the sake of work."

Hearing this, Shen Yan felt a mixture of amusement and exasperation.

"Wasn't that what I just told you to do? Why are you using those exact words on me now?"

Shen Ya rolled her eyes.

"Because those words are much more suitable for you to hear. After living with you, I've deeply realized that you are a complete workaholic, even more so than before!"

"Forget it, I don't want to be as nagging as you. In short, you take care of yourself, and don't always make Sister Hui and me worry about you."

After speaking, Shen Ya waved her hand and turned to walk down into the subway station.

Watching her retreating back, Shen Yan felt a bit dazed.

Time really flies.

That little girl who used to wear pigtails and chatter incessantly around him had truly grown up.

After feeling sentimental for a while on the spot, he finally stepped on the accelerator again and drove away from the subway station.

...

"Wu Ya, why hasn't the website maintenance we discussed started yet?"

"I don't know. I'll contact the programmers over at Chenghu..."

As soon as he arrived at the company, Shen Yan saw Chen Guangke and Wu Ya discussing work matters.

He walked over, placed the breakfast he was holding on their desks, and asked them, "Have you eaten breakfast yet?"

Hearing the question, Chen Guangke glanced at Shen Yan and replied, "Of course we have. Did you think we were all like you, not eating breakfast until so late?"

Shen Yan glanced at the time—10:30 AM.

"How is that late? Isn't eating breakfast at this hour very normal?"

Wu Ya laughed beside them and said, "For working people like us, breakfast is usually taken care of between 7:30 and 8:00 AM."

Shen Yan blinked and didn't say anything more, picking up the breakfast again and heading toward his office.

Before entering the office, he turned and said to Chen Guangke, "Do you remember what we agreed on last night?"

Chen Guangke naturally remembered.

He raised his hand and made an OK gesture in Shen Yan's direction, saying, "Don't worry, I know I need to have lunch with that Gu Mingming today."

Shen Yan nodded while adding, "You keep an eye on the time, and come in to call me when it's time."

Chen Guangke confirmed it was no problem.
